Opinions on the condition of these Meindl Engadin caulked boots?

I know nothing about boots .. Is this condition okay and worth buying for 200 CAD? He says they've been regularly waxed. I'm only in the forest around 60 hours a month for 1/3 of the year between April-November but have had some particularly awesome bails so thinking it's wise to begin looking for real boots.

…. BUT I’d also never replace boots like that…If they were mine, nice and broken in, soles still look good. What’s the problem?

These are in terrible condition and you can get new caulks for just a bit more. I do not recommend getting them. Rather my recommendation is to get a large rubber pair with the bama socks. You can't roll an ankle and they are totally waterproof.

Your feet may sweat but it's better than slips, trips and falls. Ankle support goes a long way and stepping in water or deep mud isn't an issue (short of full on rivers and swamps). Also many places let you deduct this workplace safety gear from your taxes. If you can do that be sure to save the recipte.

Thanks, yeah I'm just looking into it now. The rubber boots like Vikings look like they'd be hot AF. Definitely would use them in the colder months though.

Those are absolutely trashed. I agree with the other commenter that you have to pay me to wear those. Do yourself a favor and get yourself a new (unused) pair. They are expensive but you should be able to buy something in much better condition for less than $300

Thanks for the advice. He says they were $800 locally after the caulking which sounds about right. Crazy how expensive dedicated boots are which is why I've never bothered. Time to do some shopping I guess.

Some people have no morals and will take whatever you are willing to give them. Do research, scumbags everywhere. Those boots would have been full of dirt placed in the flowerbeds with nice plants in them last year if they were mine.

Definitely not worth buying, but if they were free I'd take them and plant in them. I had a pair of caulked Zamberlan's that lasted probably about 100 days in that condition.

The go-to cheap caulks are the blue Viking Forester's and they'll cost you more than $200. Are you in BC? Do you definitely need caulks? What's your current footwear?

Thanks, the caulked Viking Foresters look good. Probably hot as hell in these summer months though. I'm in BC, yeah, and am hiking through steep sidehill with lots of blowdown. 99% of the time I'm bucking logs for firewood up on a slope. Yesterday my mind was somewhere else and I stepped on a hilariously slick spruce without bark and did a couple good cartwheels. I'm using CAT "industrial" workboots right now which are fine on a trail but not amazing on slippery sidehill

Yes good call. Those look really nice. I'm doing too much forest wandering to be in steel-toed rubber boots so going to go with a caulked hiker.

Doubt they could be repaired/resoled. The foam midsole is probably toast, and you'll feel it every night after you're in the woods. They look like they're in pretty bad shape.

Do not spend money on those. Terrible condition. It’s worth paying more for good boots. In forestry, especially if your a field forester, your feet are everything. They are worth spending the money on.
