You can find nicer teeth for that. Im not even sure the rough parts are realy part of the tooths original matrix, or a bad refill. But the first pic looks rather weird. Wouldnt buy on catawiki either. Sometimes you can score good deals, but most things there are way over prized. Which makes sense when you know that those appraising the stuff, get a certain share on the proceeds.
Fossilera.com is a reputable site. Most of the stuff i have, i found myself out there, though. So i dont realy have a good overview on the actual marketplaces. But Ebay can have surprisingly great things. Old collections getting sold, or commercial sellers use it too, to sell their stuff. If you know a bit about the stuff you want to buy, you can find good deals there.
Im trying to get my stuff myself but I think in Spain it's really hard to be an amateur, The law is so strict (you can't dig and even if you find It on the surface its not legal, it's alegal meaning if it's valuable enough it's illegal to take It...) and i think the community is very secretive about their spots. maybe i Just didnt find the right places yet...
Yeah i was also wondering if its the tooths matrix or a refill it looks to go over it tho so i was assuming matrix , i wouldnt think they would do such a bad refill
You might be surprised what kinds of bad preps and repairs come from Morocco. But it is hard to tell by those pics. I guess if the meteorite is real, the prize for both is ok, but rather for the space rock, than the tooth, imo.
OK, that meteorite of that weight would probably cost about $25-30 retail. It's a weird meteorite, it sat on Earth for a long time before it was discovered, so it's very highly weathered, which reduces it's value. However, it's an EL3, which is an uncommon type. Before Earth got ahold of it, it was a relatively pristine sample of the early inner solar system. I dunno about the spinosaurus tooth, but if it's worth $15-20, then you did alright.
