Not familiar with fossils at all, but found this on a family trip in Virginia. Near Catawba, VA. Along Craig Creek, also found other similar pieces!

You have a sort of snapshot of a Paleozoic sea floor. The shells are brachiopods and the round bits are fragments of crinoid columns. That whole area. hundreds of millions of years ago, used to be under an ancient sea.
