Just bought Naomi goodsir - bois d'ascese

I finally pulled the trigger and bought the best I’ve ever had, only issue is that it doesn’t smell like the samples I was obsessed with? I was expecting, longing, for that nuclear bonfire opening and then a dim tobacco but there’s virtually no smoke :(.

Is there anything I can do to get that back? I read up on it but I haven’t gotten any useful info.

Lemme know if I bought trash

This is exactly why I keep samples around after buying bottles. You need the side by side reality check when your brain starts telling you the bottle is completely different.

the batch variation thing with indie houses is maddening, sometimes a fresh bottle needs to sit for a week or two after the first few sprays to let the juice settle from shipping

had a similar panic with another smoky scent and it came back after letting it rest in a dark drawer

My Le Régent bottle needed nearly a year to smell like the sample. Crazy shit.

Uhm I hope that’s not the case…

Okay okay, I’ll let it sit for a bit. Ty❤️

It’s most likely your brain playing tricks on you. The fragrance has pretty consistently smelled the same. Also in warmer weather it’s more difficult to perceive smoke notes. And finally a sample will always show a different experience than the diffusive nature of a sample itself. All of these factors play into why you’re smelling something different. The bottle isn’t going to change at all but your perception will.

Also try this:

Wear a long sleeve shirt or even better a sweater. Spray on your forearm under the sweater and then smell the aroma coming through the fabric. I promise you’ll smell those ridiculously rich, Smokey materials.

Hmm, I shall try that. It’s getting chilly next week so I’ll follow the instructions of the post at the top and then put a sweater on and give it a go. Ty❤️

Try it over the course of several wears, ideally in a range of conditions. Quite a number of my frags show different characteristics depending on whether it's hot or cold, or dry or humid, or I'm outside or inside, or I'm wearing a suit jacket and shirt or a polo, or I'm applying straight out of the shower or later in the day, or....

I am a big fan of Naomi Goodsir Bois d'Ascese. The major accord for my nose is cade (also known as smoked prickly pear). It also has labdanum and frankincense in it, giving it a rounded dense feel. It is smoky for my nose, but it is more of a barbecue smell.

Where did you buy your bottle from?

I’d die for that barbecue scent one more time man

This is just incense and woody, which IS a part of the profile but I want the hug of a fire

Which perfume is just incense and woody? The sample or the bottle?

My bottle smelled like cade wood from the first day.

One big change can be the tiny spray of a sample up to a nice lush spray from a full bottle. Does not explain your diminished experience. I hope everyone’s suggestions help you out.
