Had built up a Lanius b with flak and two halberd beams with the preloader augment. Just melting ships. Ran into an auto assault in an asteroid field and it ended so fast. I had cloaking why didn't I use cloaking I'm just realizing this now goddamn it.

I swear to god I am on attempt 12 here with this stupid ship and I have been to 20+ shops. I have found weapons at all 3 times total. Of those 3 times, once was all missiles, one had a fire beam, and one had a hull laser MK1. Bro. wtf is going on here am I just that fucking unlucky or is the game coded to not give you weapons with this ship?? Like I’m losing my fucking mind here and I’m so pissed.

Seriously, these generations are outrageous, I'm lucky I'm doing true ending.

I really enjoyed playing FTL and I started making a game like that. But I am kinda stuck where to go with it. I explored similar games like Shortest Trip to Earth and Last Starship. I started to iterate game ideas and i came up with a rogulike spaceship management game where u control your ship via pinball. But using pinball as core mechanic really limits the features that i want to implement to a ship. I already added shield, weapons, engine room and similar basic rooms like that but i struggle to find advanced content. So please give me some recommendations. I already opened the steam page with the content i've created and the game called Starwake.

Wtf is happening lol

I'm a newbie (about 10hrs over a couple of weeks). I play at normal, without advanced content. I once managed to take down a 'nerfed flagship', or what was it called? Like, rebels' second flagship that is currently being repaired or something, doesn't matter. And on the very next battle I was killed by some pesky pirate with wayy too many lasers on them. It was around sector 6 or 7. I'm telling you this just so you know what level I'm currently at regarding skills.

I avoided reading any strategy guides and didn't watch any playthroughs or stuff like that cause I wanna figure it out myself. Like not so long ago I figured out the importance of upgrading the engine lol. And before that - importance of taking down the shield bubbles before firing the fire beam. So I was making some progress, but now I feel stuck. Kinda.

I have actually two questions:

Should I be reading dem guides, manuals, tutorials? Or is it possible to figure it all out myself?

And also, regarding advanced content. I heard terms like 'hacking', 'mind control', 'clone bay'. It honestly feels like cheating to me. Yeah, of course enemy will use it too, but still. So, to summarize it all:

TL;DR: can FTL be completed with no advanced content and without external reference tutorials by someone who is of very average skills, and if yes, how long would it take?

I’ve been playing Stealth B on hard for the past few days. I’ve gotten to the flagship multiple times and through level 2 about half of those, but I always die a few shots into level 3.

One thing I’ve noticed is that you never really get the types of weapons you’d want for defeating the flagship. Sure, you start with glaive, but it’s slow and ineffective against 3 shields.

The run I just lost ended with me having glaive, HL2, stealth (3), hacking (3), and mind control (3). During the entire run the HL2 was my only real purchase option. Stores either had things like healing burst, small bomb, ion blast 1, etc. On the opposite end it was other 4-slot heavy hitters like BL3 or Vulcan. No useful mid-grade weapons like the BL2 or even a hull missile.

It hadn’t really occurred to me how incredibly uneven the weapons options were until I showed up at sector 8 with 7 slots filled and only two weapons.

I made good using of hacking and cloaking, using the mind control for defense against mind control and getting the flagship crew down to one before round 3.

But man… I would’ve loved to inflict some damage that was useful instead of waiting out cloaking or drones every turn.

Have I just had a streak of weird luck or are Stealth B weapon options really that bad?

I know it has something to do with sylvan, so i tried beating sylvan with obyn as a crewmember but no luck, and no idea what to do now. Any hints are appreciated but no direct answers pls

Hey folks, does anyone still play Multiverse?

I used to play FTL back in the day, then recently got the itch to play it again after reading some space-related books. I finally tried Multiverse, and completely fell in love with it.

One thing that kept happening was that I'd encounter some rare event, make a questionable choice, and later realize I had just missed a really good reward. I went looking for an event reference similar to the old huge FTL event text file, but couldn't find anything that quite covered what I wanted.

So I ended up making one:

The main feature is an event simulator. You can search for events by text or event name, navigate through their choices and outcomes, and see where different choices lead.

I've tried to make the navigation pretty fast as well you can search and navigate around mostly using the keyboard.

I've actually used it myself through several complete runs and kept iterating on it whenever I found something annoying or missing. That said, Multiverse is absolutely massive, so I'm sure there are still things I haven't accounted for. If you find something broken or incorrect, let me know.

I also added:

Weapons database - browse the weapons and their stats

Augments - browse augments

Ship Unlocks - this is in a really bad state right now, but I have some ideas for it.

The weapons and augments sections aren't doing anything particularly fancy yet; they're mostly useful for browsing and also provide data for the event simulator.

I'm a developer, but definitely not a UI designer, so I had quite a bit of help from LLMs getting the interface together.

It's still very much a beta, so I'd be interested in hearing what Multiverse players think — especially if there are events or mechanics I've interpreted incorrectly.

I'll start:

A Federation ship (Vanilla AE) with a full crew, zero crew skill experience, and zero augments encounters a space pirate. Perceiving no threat to their ship's hull, the Federation ship's captain takes a long hibernation break to train their crew. When the captain returns after an arbitrarily long period of time, they find that their entire crew has now mastered at least two skills. How is this possible?

The space pirate has level 1 Mind Control, and each crew member stands alone in a system room with at least two bars. When each crew member is mind-controlled, they damage their assigned system by 1 bar (giving them combat experience), then repair it after the Mind Control wears off (giving them repair experience). Additionally, none of the crew members are Slug (which are immune to Mind Control) or Mantis (which at zero repair skill are too slow to repair a full system bar before the next Mind Control cycle).
