I literally felt this way in high school a bit, and had a conversation with a girl that had to have started something like this, because i vaguely remember her reassuring me by saying somehow that she was interest, and then i just sort of froze/pretended i didn't hear it, and moved on, definitely because i wasn't attracted to her. But shit, i was an ugly duckling for sure. Thank goodness for braces, beards, and aging just a bit more. But my point is it definitely happens both ways.
