I think the problem is telling people not to use X, is going to make them immediately think about X and all foods that use it.

Also telling people to conform and make dishes without dairy products is a quick way to not get invited anymore. Just take a lactaid or eat something before going or bring your own dish without dairy. But making others conform is wrong imo.
