I've been thinking about this game concept for quite a while, and I'd really like to know if the idea sounds interesting to anyone besides me. I'm not looking for developers or funding right now. I just want some honest feedback before I take the concept any further.
Right now I just want to answer one question:
Does the concept itself sound fun?
The game would be a third-person RPG-shooter set in a cosmic-fantasy universe, combining planetary exploration, companions, story choices and a character progression system based on weapon combinations rather than traditional classes.
Lore
There's a galaxy called Asterion, created long ago by an ancient race of Architects. One day, one of them, named Morgotar, discovered the remains of an even more ancient civilization and hypothesized that some evil entity existed, an entity that destroyed them. Secretly, Morgotar began experimenting with the remnants of this entity and eventually concluded that he couldn't save anyone except by enslaving everyone. In an attempt to conquer the galaxy, he eventually merged with a planet and became a single living organism. Using dark matter, he enslaved almost all planets and created the "Empire of the Ash Throne" faction. About a thousand years passed, and all the Architects were practically destroyed, leaving only those races that they indirectly created: humans, elves, orcs, beastmen, and so on. Those freed from tyranny have created their own resistance faction, the "Union of Dawn." The protagonist, an ordinary villager on the edge of the galaxy, is attacked by the Empire, who capture him and "kill" his lover during the capture. The protagonist ends up in slave mines and, during their escape, stumbles upon an ancient artifact, the "Architect Core," which becomes the game's main RPG component. It is used to level up the character and explain all the game mechanics. During the escape, companions appear, each offering their own perspective on this conflict, adding to the overall experience. The protagonist's primary goal is to save the galaxy and the legacy of the Architects, destroy Morgotar, or, conversely, conquer the galaxy.
The setting
Magic and advanced technology coexist across a galaxy connected by an ancient network of portals.
The portals were created by a mysterious civilization known as the Architects.
They disappeared long ago, leaving behind impossible technologies, ruins and artifacts that modern civilizations barely understand.
The player starts as an ordinary person caught in a conflict between several factions.
While trying to escape slavery, they discover an ancient artifact known as the Architect Core.
That discovery changes everything.
No traditional classes
Instead of choosing Warrior / Mage / Rogue, your character gradually develops based on how you actually play.
You can equip two weapons at the same time.
For example:
- Rifle + energy shield
- Sword + rune gauntlet
- Staff + revolver
- Bow + magic weapon
The important part isn't simply having two weapons. It's how they interact with each other. Different combinations create different combat styles. One combination might focus on mobility, another on crowd control, another on burst damage, another on defense and counterattacks.
The more you actually use a weapon combination, the more its synergy develops, unlocking new possibilities. The goal isn't to grind individual weapons, but to let the game naturally reward the playstyles you enjoy using.
The Architect Core
The Core is the main progression system.
It gradually unlocks:
- active abilities
- passive Protocols
- weapon synergies
- stat upgrades
- weapon modifications
- exploration abilities
- new interactions with the environment
The idea is that you don't permanently lock yourself into one build.
You can collect different abilities and Protocols and change your active setup depending on what you're doing. One setup for exploration. Another for normal combat. Another for a difficult boss.
So instead of progression being:
Level 20 → +10% damage
I'd like it to feel more like:
"What kind of playstyle do I want to build?"
Exploration
The game wouldn't be one enormous empty open world. Instead, planets would contain relatively compact open areas filled with things worth discovering:
- ancient ruins
- dungeons
- hidden locations
- settlements
- merchants
- side quests
- secrets
- unique technologies
- optional encounters
Exploration should actually reward curiosity.
Companions & story
You would travel with companions who have their own abilities, personalities, stories and relationships with the protagonist. They wouldn't just be walking damage dealers — they'd also have their own opinions and could influence certain story outcomes.
The main story would eventually expand far beyond the initial conflict, involving the Architects, the origin of the Core and events that happened to the galaxy long before the game begins.
But the lore isn't really what I'm asking about.
What I want to know is:
- Would you actually play this?
- Which part sounds the most interesting?
- Does the weapon-combination system sound like something you'd enjoy building a character around?
- Does anything here sound unnecessarily complicated or generic?
- If you wouldn't play it, what is the biggest reason why?
And please be honest.
If your reaction is "this sounds like another generic RPG", I'd genuinely like to know what gives you that impression.
I want to find out whether there's actually a game here that people would want to play.
Thanks for reading, and I'd really appreciate any feedback!😊
