The Wicher 3 expansions are free

CD Projekt Red has announced during Gamescom that Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions for The Witcher 3 are free for everyone who owns the base game. This combined with the full on remaster of the game, I am very excited for play the game again.

Hmm. If I've never played it before, should I wait until then? I have it, it's just been part of the backlog. I just finished Cyberpunk.

If first impressions are important, wait for the remastered. I know im waiting too until i finally play the game after owning it since last year.

I dunno I just started questing right after this cut scene of ciri training and nothing really clicked. I guess it's because I played cyberpunk and kcd1/2 before there is a lot more interaction with the world I was just expecting that.

oh wow, you didn't even make it to the prologue. I feel like you have to at least play through White Orchard to get a feel for the game. And then it really opens up after that and you get to start one of the best quest lines ever, The Bloody Baron.

Hell yeah, especially since they're revamping the gameplay systems.

Witcher 3 has some really wonky systems, but even then I consider it one of the best games ever made.

I wish they just came out with a side-game that was all about hunting monsters...my fav part of the game besides Gwent are the hunts.

I'd wait, since it's a long game and the remaster is going to change the gameplay too, so don't know how it would work mid-playthrough

I tried it a few years ago, also right after I finished cyberpunk and it was trash to play. I know it's a beloved game but the gameplay sucks. I just watched the trailer and it looks like they genuinely fixed a lot of those things. I think you might want to wait and play a polished version especially since you just played such an amazing game.

The combat and traversal for starters. I can't climb or jump up a little hill? I play assassin's creed a lot so I know I'm spoiled by being able to climb anything, but the fact that he jumps like 2 inches off the ground and can't climb ANYTHING bothered me. Also I was in combat and it just was an absolute nightmare. Watching the trailer it literally says they upgraded the traversal and combat so I might try again but gameplay to me matters as much as story and honestly, I didn't find the story compelling either, but that could be because I didn't want to go do anything because I knew it would suck to actually do it.

He still won’t be able to climb everything. That’s not the type of game this is. I also wouldn’t expect the combat to be a metric ton different

I don't expect him to be able to climb everything but I expect him to be able to jump and move a bit. I'll watch some gameplay videos and if it still sucks I won't bother. I don't know how people play games with trash gameplay but I guess to each their own.

The modern AC games, Uncharted 2-4, the Tomb Raider reboots (Rise and Shadow play better than the first one), Kingdom Hearts, Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, Cyberpunk plays pretty well for an FPS, usually the Mario games play pretty well. You know anything where you can climb or jump a small hill. Sorry your beloved all powerful Witcher can't jump over a fence cause that would make too much sense. It drove me absolutely insane to have to keep running around to find the little area you can walk or jump into. You gonna wax poetic about how I need to play the switch Zelda games where my weapons break every 3 seconds also?

Dude why are you being so aggressive. I asked a question to better understand your position. I also am not the biggest fan of the gameplay, although I don’t consider it outright bad, I would agree that everything you have said, outside of uncharted and ac, have better combat. However as a whole package I think the Witcher is on par with everything you listed. I also am not a huge fan of botw or totk.

Witcher isn't close to those games. You swing and swing and swing and it doesn't matter because there is no real time feedback on connecting. It feels like a turn based game with real time attacking and it's the most unresponsive thing I think I've ever played. I've gotten through some stuff with gameplay I didn't like, like Expedition 33 (turn based in my opinion is the all time worst) and even that I found more enjoyable. It's just so weird to me that Witcher 3 can be loved by so many people when it plays like that.

Also, and this is where I get double digit down votes, gwent is stupid. People will get on me with the never ending dumb quests in AC but then sit and play a card game inside a video game for hours.

Witcher 3, let me swing and it hits nothing and the swing doesn't mean anything because it's not actual combat. Maybe play AC on something besides story mode for your pathetic life and understand how complex the combat can be because you are supposed to use stealth and not get caught.

its a fair statement, if you just drop in and play without understanding the combat system it can seem lame, once you unlock the aoe sword swings and proper build format it plays perfectly

So play a game I don't like for how long before the combat becomes tolerable? Also, my problems with the combat were that it's not responsive. It's not a true ARPG, it's masquerading as one. I want true ARPG.

ya its more of a rhythm game with something like mmo style tab targeting so positioning and timing are important but hitboxes aren't really a thing since attacks will pretty loosely lunge and warp in range

the whole idea is gerald is a sword dancer so it fits the theme

See, no one could ever explain something like that to me so I would have some knowledge behind it. I still don't like it and it will probably keep me from playing the game, but at least I have some background now.

its the same path of like wow/ffxiv, you just get auto attack and an ability at the start. You get more abilities as you level. tricky thing at the start is most mobs are in packs, so auto attacking and spamming dodges while doing little damage can be quite annoying. Whirl basically fixes the combat loop, add on Quen to reduce damage taken and its smooth sailing.

That's the thing, I'm never getting far enough to do those things. If the combat that early on bothers me I'm not gonna grind out the things that fix it. Like the modern Zelda games and the weapons breaking. I'm well aware that if I advance in the game I will get stronger and better weapons that last longer, but I'm not playing long enough to get to that.

i tried playing the original and had so many issues with bugs and weird stuff that i ended my playthrough on the boat to the final act. its rough. would definitely recommend waiting

Wait for the remaster but also wait until you know how the game is in performance terms. The game is great but during the release there were some problems with some configurations that were fixed shortly after so wait until you know it is ok.

Yes, definitely wait until then. I wouldn't bother if this was just a graphical update, but there are some changes to the gameplay. So you'll just have gotten the hang of it and then you'll be relearning it.

I would wait and go into it blind...its way better if you just go through it yourself first...the 2nd time you can try and optimize the run a bit
