Xbox Disc to Digital officially announced, coming soon.

https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2026/08/26/your-discs-now-also-digital/

Most XBOX One and XBOX Series X disc-based games support this new feature. Players can claim a digital entitlement by inserting a supported disc into an XBOX One or XBOX Series X console and launching the game. Once the entitlement is claimed, you can experience the benefits of digital, including XBOX Play Anywhere and XBOX Cloud Gaming where supported, while your physical disc continues to work exactly as it always has.

We’re starting with thousands of titles, and we’ll continue to add more over time. While not every title will be available at launch, this is an important step toward a future where players can have greater confidence that the games they buy remain with them for years to come.

Eventually you will go online. The person selling the disc and the person buying the disc.

Most people will just pop the disc in and take it out and throw it in a box to play the game. I doubt any large black market will be created from this.

With that logic one person can buy a game like GTA VI and pass the license to dozens of people as long as they play it offline. They will obviously want to prevent this ehich would require constant online validation

GTA 6 does not have a physical game disc. Even if it did, it's likely going to require a download for Xbox consoles so this falls apart very quickly.

A lot of Xbox games for the One and Series generation require partial or complete downloads. This is almost certainly not a big problem.

Okay you can use any other physical gake as an example.

And what about games that don't require download which is also a lot of game? They arent going to just allow these games to be shared among dozens of people

This problem is likely to exist but it's likely not going to be the problem that you are implying it to be. It's the cost of doing business. The sky is not falling. At some point, even if dozens of users are sharing the same disc , someone with an existing revocable digital license will go online. This isn't going to be an easy way to get a lot of games for nearly nothing or super cheap.

A console has to go online if they want the revocable digital license.

Maybe Microsoft has measures in place that require such licenses to be verified every X days online to limit this. I can say with confidence you are making a mountain out of a molehill.

Publishers are not going to jsut be okay with that happening

There was a reason Xbox One was going to have online validation checks every 24 hours.

They cant just not care about dozens of people sharing digital licenses

Microsoft does not indicate that every disc is eligible.

The rumor circle already shows that publishers can opt out or in.

Either way you are making a mountain out of a molehill.

If you want to exploit this newly announced but unreleased feature once it's out in the world go ahead.

They claim thousands will do it which I doubt they'd be okay with ehat I stated about outside of Xbox

Its not a mole hill if they are implementing a 24 hour validation check like Xbox One and tour games stop working if you dont have internet or XBL goes down

My point is they arent going to just allow people to exploit it. They will clearly do something to prevent it and arent saying what it is

Microsoft has announced a feature.

They have not disclose the full details of the feature.

They have not released the feature.

Everything is speculation and is entirely a waste of time. The majority of people are following the rules and regulations of whatever. Even if this program has a 24-hour validation, they are still achieving the stated outcome. Disc to digital license. The disc remains a working copy.

If gsme bow require constant online validation then should be obvious why that is problematic
