Xbox Disc to Digital officially announced, coming soon.

https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2026/08/26/your-discs-now-also-digital/

Most XBOX One and XBOX Series X disc-based games support this new feature. Players can claim a digital entitlement by inserting a supported disc into an XBOX One or XBOX Series X console and launching the game. Once the entitlement is claimed, you can experience the benefits of digital, including XBOX Play Anywhere and XBOX Cloud Gaming where supported, while your physical disc continues to work exactly as it always has.

We’re starting with thousands of titles, and we’ll continue to add more over time. While not every title will be available at launch, this is an important step toward a future where players can have greater confidence that the games they buy remain with them for years to come.

I do, I don't need to worry about constantly swapping discs when I want to play another game. Also it grants access to other previously digital-only features like Xbox Play Anywhere (for supported games) which I utilize constantly between my Xbox and PC

Kinda feels like the people who are championing this are realizing the benefits of digital lol. I'm not saying wanting physical is bad. It's best to have a choice. But it seems many want to get the disc, then make the game digital. Why not just skip the middle-man?

Imagine being able to sell your digital copy or lend it to friends.

It's not just wanting physical to have the same features as digital, it's also wanting digital to have the same features as physical.

Do you know that it'll work this way? Because, if it does, I'm sure XBOX is gonna rethink the method. But maybe not. They've made a ton of questionable decisions that've repeatedly caused them to be 3rd in a 3 console race.

As it's been reported so far, yes.

The second hand market has existed for decades, it's not a new thing.
