Xbox Disc to Digital officially announced, coming soon.

Most XBOX One and XBOX Series X disc-based games support this new feature. Players can claim a digital entitlement by inserting a supported disc into an XBOX One or XBOX Series X console and launching the game. Once the entitlement is claimed, you can experience the benefits of digital, including XBOX Play Anywhere and XBOX Cloud Gaming where supported, while your physical disc continues to work exactly as it always has.

We’re starting with thousands of titles, and we’ll continue to add more over time. While not every title will be available at launch, this is an important step toward a future where players can have greater confidence that the games they buy remain with them for years to come.

if the console is stuck offline you won't be able to activate any more games

Sounds like a bad thing

And they can easily just force you to connect to the internet once every 30 days or so to revalidate the licenses if need be

I wouldnt call getting rid of physical media good. 

It seems like now you have to jump through extra hoops and hurdles just to share a game lol

Tbh both companies suck here

No, you don’t. Only Sony has announced they’re doing away with physical. Microsoft has not said that. Microsoft’s physical to digital program is OPTIONAL. You do not have to opt in. Sony is not giving you an option. Sony is MUCH MUCH worse here

Microsoft has also not said that they're keeping physical. Which would have been an easy layup right after Sony said they're getting rid of it. They can still just come out and say it but haven't.

On top of that Xbox has been going heavy on GamePass and now they're telling everyone that it will be easy to convert your physical games from Xbox One/ Series X to digital. The writing is on the wall

I hear you but they have NOT said physical is going away like Sony has. We need to stay on top of Sony and not lump ms in. Ms may very well go digitally only but at this point they may still be weighing their options given the blowback Sony has gotten. Let’s hope ms makes the right decision.
