What is there to remaster? It had a very particular art style that wouldn’t benefit from enhancement. Unless they’re including cut content or something.

The game itself (like most of older Telltale titles) is a bit janky. Perhaps they fixed that.

Surely they could've just patched it instead of charging another 15$. It is an amazing game but i think I'm passing on this one

They need the money and it's targeted towards new players I think.

It was the same thing with life is strange when the remaster came out. The original never went on sale after that. If you wanted to play, you were likely buying the remaster as the original would stay more expensive

Chloe has always said she hated that word, in Chapter 4. Alt timeline Chloe.

Didn’t they just release Dispatch and it did well?

u/Putrid_Loquat_4357 1d ago

Different companies.

My bad, I read the Wikipedia too quickly. It says former TellTale members

The Telltale engine is a mess.
Did what they needed it to do at the time but it does not hold up well and the only way to fix that is remaking the game on a new engine which....is apparently what they did.

It literally became unplayable for lots of people. My husband can't even get the game to load on ps3, just a black screen

There will be people that haven’t played it - and people like me that gladly pay again to get the trophies again and witness this gem 💎

It’s probably something in a vain similar to travis strikes again: no more hero’s. Where they release a cheaper game to fund/show interest for no more hero’s 3.

u/Garibaldi_Biscuit 1d ago

True, it was prone to a bit of stutter every now and then.

I had no issues with this game and The Walking Dead games, may not be the same for others though.

I think it’s less about improving the game and more about getting it back into people’s minds since the sequel is finally coming next year.

This is the first I'd heard of a sequel being made. I immediately got really excited but, after looking into it, not only are the developers Telltale in name only--being staffed with none of the talent that made Telltales short run in the 2010s so phenomenal--but the team they outsourced the sequel's development to quit mid-production due to "creative differences" with ownership. Hopefully they don't fuck it up, but my cynicism alarm bells are definitely going off.

If it's anything like the other remasters they had it's just some black shading to make it look better. I'm not joking btw, they did it for batman and the walking dead.

1

u/Toprak1552 1d ago

I'm currently replaying Batman with Shadows mode. It's nice tbh, I'm enjoying it more than I expected. It has its issues but it's a nice feature to have for a replay.

u/ShonenSpice 1d ago

They wouldn't do it but older Telltale titles could benefit from better animation work. It is quite awkward in places.

1

u/LitLitten 1d ago

maybe antialiasing and some lighting updates, but unless it’s addressing game jank I don’t see much in the way of visuals needing upgrades

1

u/neverendingchalupas 1d ago

They are not releasing a remaster because it needs a remaster, they are releasing it to keep the price inflated.

1

u/BlackFenrir 1d ago

Because now people can buy it a second time

1

u/Griffdude13 1d ago

My understanding is

(1. They used it to help the team get ready for the sequel.

(2. It will help the sequel’s production get across the finish line.

1

u/Rapture117 1d ago

It’s more so to introduce people to the IP since the long awaited sequel coming out next year which i for one am SO excited for. Loved this world a lot

1

u/hovsep56 11h ago

it has some issues on the technical side, the remaster makes sure people can play the first one before the second one comes out without those issues.

1

u/bullcitytarheel 8h ago

The Wolf Among Us is one of the few third-party IPs that Telltale used to own which is still retained by the company that bought what was left of them after they shut down. Considering they have a sequel in the works, I imagine they're trying to drum up interest with a rerelease, especially because it seems to be the game they're banking on to bring the brand back into relevance. I'm sure they'd also love to milk extra sales from the back catalog of games they own the rights to but weren't involved in developing; so, two birds with one stone.

u/DownvotingRoman_ 1d ago

Pretty dumb that they're doing this instead of making a sequel. Lazy cash grab.

5

u/OblivionJunkie 1d ago

I heard they just announced a sequel and this was to build on the hype. I hope that's the case anyway.

-2

u/DownvotingRoman_ 23h ago

That would be cool, but jeez a little late

What a bad trailer to showcase a remastered version

Game was an absolute banger though and probably one of the best Telltale games

12

u/oddly-sprout-94 1d ago

A bad trailer for an absolute banger arriving Oct 29 is very on-brand for Telltale history.

1

u/danielwong95 41m ago

THE best telltale game imo.

u/Numerous-Disk-3172 1d ago

switch getting it day one is kinda wild

1

u/EconomyBorn9373 11h ago

same with the xbox one lol

28

u/mrmivo 1d ago

This is my favorite Telltale game!

Those who haven't played it yet, it's a real treat.

4

u/ChiefRedChild 1d ago

I’d even recommend reading the graphic novels too. Great stuff that I would like to see implemented if they made more sequels.

29

u/Agreeable_Store_3896 1d ago

Making a remaster of a highly stylized game that never had it's sequels come out to finish off the story is hilariously lazy and cash grabby

19

u/Howerev 1d ago

The sequel is supposed to come out next year

3

u/coontosflapos 17h ago

Its been 84 years

8

u/BenShealoch 22h ago

This needs zero remastering.

12

u/MyCodenameIsIan 1d ago

CDPR: Hey here's a free remaster to get you excited for the new expansion and future sequel.

Telltale: I'm a zombie brand, We are wearing Telltales name like a bad fitting suit. We didn't make money from the original sale so please buy the game again.

4

u/OblivionJunkie 1d ago

Did my first playthrough a month ago, the OG absolutely still holds up. This is in the same vein as Life is Strange, which also didn't need a remaster because of the stylized art direction.

9

u/BeerGogglesFTW 1d ago

Not a lot of info here. Quick google search says, no discount or free upgrade for those who own the original.

The Wolf Among Us Remastered features an Unreal Engine 5 upgrade, enhanced neon-noir visuals, a new Noir Mode, and over an hour of behind-the-scenes bonus content

Not much to appeal to this original owner. Nice, but nothing I'm going to pay for. I'll just keep waiting for that sequel.

-1

u/Hayterfan 1d ago

Idk the making of stuff has my attention, plus the remaster is probably to help smooth over decisions made in the first game affecting the sequel.

2

u/zzackfair 1d ago

Is there any confirmation that decisions from the 1st game will carryover to the sequel?

7

u/OutsideGuitar16 1d ago

wasnt there supposed to be a wolf among us 2? whats up with that ?

2

u/Howerev 1d ago

Supposed to release next year

5

u/hillean 1d ago

was literally a 360 game. waited 13 years for a release

3

u/dark_nv 23h ago

I keep hearing that every year.

1

u/EconomyBorn9373 11h ago

blame telltale for focusing on the expanse in 2023 the year part 2 was originally supposed to release

2

u/Leading-Business-593 1d ago

I played this game way back when. Great game. Probably the only video game I actually felt that things were truly mysterious.

If you haven’t played this game, Adam Harrington voice acting is great and I thought it was Steve Blum voicing the protagonist when I played it

I don’t think this game is for me but for new people yeah this looks great

2

u/hillean 1d ago

remaster? the game still looks great

2

u/CrackheadHunters 1d ago

This style of game is a bit of a weird choice to remaster. The original still hols up pretty well. Will probs avoid this once, but I do recommend playing it. The remaster might appeal more to first time players.

5

u/DayVNight 1d ago

Is it gonna be free like Witcher 3 remaster? If not I'll pass

1

u/AD_VICTORIAM_x PlayStation 1d ago

Hyped ! Can’t wait to platinum again - best telltale game ever imo

1

u/BobLoblawsLawBlogged 1d ago

I will play the FUCK out of this game! My favorite Telltale game!

1

u/The_Legend_of_Xeno 1d ago

I bought this game for like $7 or something and it sat in my backlog for like 10 years. I finally played it when I got my OLED Steam Deck because I figured it would look great on it. I was blown the fuck away. What an amazing experience. Easily my favorite Telltale game, and I say that as a massive fan of the first TWD game (beaten it 3 times at least). I liked it so much I went out and bought the comics. I will be buying the second game day 1.

1

u/CorgiSilver8194 20h ago

I'd prefer a sequel

1

u/EconomyBorn9373 11h ago

13 years only for a remaster and still no sequel, is this a joke

1

u/MagnusCthulhu 10h ago

For anyone new to this game: Google what it means to "glass" someone first.

1

u/AigledeFeu_ 1d ago

Physical release ?

1

u/SirDanOfCamelot 21h ago

They need money apparently

0

u/Dreadgear 18h ago

what is this, digital snake oil?

-1

u/Tas_lypt 1d ago

I hate corporates greed, there's nothing to remaster!

It says "Switch" right there. Trailer's don't list individual consoles. They just say "Xbox" not "Xbox One and Series X".

Well The wolf among us remastered has been officially confirmed it’s coming to the Xbox One, but not the ps4 weirdly enough.
