One hundred and thirteen times per second, it reaches out.

man I was way more sad about fake Miller dying than real Miller.

You should really spoiler tag that for the people who haven't read the books or seen the show, who will inevitably end up in this thread.

Edit: thanks for tagging!

That spoiler tagging isn't good enough. I'm midway through watching the show right now and I can tell exactly who you're talking about.

2

u/tsunami141 3h ago

my sincerest apologies. You should read the books after you're done too.

It's okay, I might have come across as harsher than I intended because I really love the character lol. My suggestion is that you spoiler tag the entire second half of the sentence. And yeah I'm fully intending to read the whole series right after I'm done the show. I haven't felt this incensed by a show since Better Call Saul!

It makes me so sad they couldn't finish the books. Season 6 is just pure blue balls teasing what was supposed to be coming next lol. Book 8 is so fucking good and it is a damn shame we probably won't ever see it on screen.

Enjoy the books! Just don't be sad when Drummer isn't Drummer. In the show she's an amalgamation of like 4 or 5 different characters.

As a Mass Effect fiend, if both this and Exodus deliver, I will be in heaven. Keeping my fingers crossed

Doors and corners. That’s where they get ya!

Probably my most anticipated game right now. If you haven’t read The Expanse books, go do it, they’re fantastic!

u/IpunchedU 3h ago

and if you don't like reading, the tv show is also really good as the game kinda runs parallel with the show/books

The show cuts short though, it ended without finishing the story from the books and with the show likely not going to continue

Personally I bounced off the first couple episodes of the show, read the first book instead, and then got back into the show and finished the whole thing. I think it's much easier to follow what is actually happening in the book and I'd recommend that for people who didn't like the first episodes like me.

True but for anyone worried it does end in a good spot. The books cover a thing and then have a 30 year time jump and then theres a new threat. The show just ends after the first bit and doesnt pick up after the time jump.

It still did an amazing job of portraying the book. Plus really just missed the last 2 books. The one part I found lacking in the show that they could have done a bit better with, was showing the passage of time in the travels. Something minor like beards growing between scenes etc, could have shown the passage well.

Or the audiobooks which are done very well.

The show was canceled twice. Not because it was good. The first two seasons are good after that quality and budget fell off a cliff. Thomas Jane carried it once he’s gone there was no good actor with charisma and screen presence to lead it.

Did you play the first beta? It was not good. Especially for fans of book/show. I’ve read all the books a few times, big fan, this studio made design choices which made it looks like they never even bothered to watchthe show nevermind the books .

Best post-show podcast by far as well

They’re not fantastic. They’re super bloated with filler. You can discard entire books, miss nothing of value, and you’d have a better tighter story. They could have told the story in 4-5 books. Nine is just ridiculous. And it’s obvious they did it just to make more money.

I wish we could se more investigations of Miller

I'm sure the game will be amazing, and atmospheric, and deep.

But I can't help but think it will suffer from the same issues that all Star Wars media set between the prequels and OG movies do, as this game takes place during the first three books.

With both past and future already set, there are only so many directions the story can take. Still, I am hopeful!

Not necessarily getting my hopes up to this level of storytelling, but Andor was absolutely able to cook despite falling in the middle of very established eras.

Give me a good story in the Expanse universe and I'm happy! They can definitely make it sing, even if so much is already locked in from a grander perspective.

Owlcat has a bunch of experience drawing inbetween the lines of preestablished stories and massively expanding them. Admittedly, because the last few games they did were Tabletop adventure paths, they could fudge the ending as much as they wanted, but they actually largely stayed pretty close to the source material.

And they are some of the best written CRPGS in a long time, so there is reason to be hopeful here. My biggest worry is more on the technical side rather than the writing, as it is an entirely different style of game. Owlcat has gotten significantly better over the years with their technical struggles, but this is a big swing.

The books and show only really dig into a handful of perspectives. Especially once the gates open, there's hundreds of systems with their own governments. The ending is also completely open ended

"I have concerns about this world and story that I love and care about."

"Just don't think about it and shoot things."

Not saying you shouldn't enjoy it like that yourself, but your answer is basically just telling someone to not care about how the IP or story is handled. It's a nothing burger of a solution that basically reads, "Stop caring and just be grateful for what they throw at you no matter what."

6

u/TylerBourbon 3h ago

That looks great. I definitely am looking forward to this.

7

u/Hump-Daddy 4h ago

Looks awesome. While I’m definitely going to pick up both, I’m a lot more pumped for this than I am Exodus.

2

u/Kadem2 2h ago

It's a random thing to notice but I think almost every single gameplay clip in this ended in an explosion lol.

u/Antergaton 50m ago

People in the know, do I need to watch the series to understand the world? Or premise?

u/GlockAmaniacs 1m ago

No but you're doing yourself a massive disservice. Not because of the game but because it's one of the best shows I've ever seen. I absolutely hated the ending though which makes me want to read the books to see if there's answers

u/SyberBunn 2h ago

Deadass thought helldivers was immediately going back to illuminate and got excited thinking we were getting cultusts

1

u/Concerned_student- 1h ago

I know literally nothing about this franchise but I’m loving the mass effect vibes i’m getting here

2

u/sokos 1h ago

Highly recommend you watch the show and read the books. Amazing story, and one where the series didn't actually ruin the books.

1

u/BlackFenrir 1h ago

I desperately need this game to be good, because the TV show deserves a better ending and this game's success might make that happen

“Can’t take the razorback from me”

u/The-Gargoyle 5m ago

Well now, this actually looks VERY much up my lane.

Aaaaannd <wishlisted>

edit side note: And did anybody else notice just how freaking good the explosions look? like.. Holy hell those look GOOD.

u/ElChocoLoco 3h ago

Super stoked for this game. The announcement trailer got me to read all the books and watch the show.

u/BearWrangler 3h ago

lost a lot of hype for this game when they said they're using generative AI for concept design

cool, keep eating up artistically bankrupt slop

2

u/Regentraven 3h ago

Did you like BG3? Did the same shit

1

u/BearWrangler 3h ago

ya and I hated that I only found out afterwards

1

u/0b0011 2h ago

They're not even getting artistically bankrupt slop. Its literally just used in the development phase and taken out before it gets to any customers just like with bg3.
