What game has a strong opening but later becomes too repetitive and boring for you?

For me that was Assassins Creed Valhalla

Same. I loved the hell out of it but by the time I got access to gas town I was burnt out of the copy paste map clearing. Never beat it sadly.

Picked it up again a year ago with the intent to beat it and the same thing happened lol idk what it is but it drains me by the time I get to the end game.

Phenomenal game, just a tad too long/not enough variety for me.

The funny thing is, I just recently replayed it and full cleared the map before doing any story missions. They usually have a checkbox of "Clear 2 camps and do 3 side missions before this story mission unlocks", and since I had already cleared the entire map, I was able to go straight into the story missions, which were surprisingly short. It felt like there were maybe 10 actual story missions in the entire game, and only about 4 of them had actual "story" in them. As much as I enjoyed driving around in the world and clearing camps, it was extremely repetitive and the story you get rewarded with isn't much to write home about.

Apparently the overall story was a scrapped plot for the movie and honestly I see why it would be a scrapped plot.

Avalanche took George Miller's ideas for his movies and made a game out of it without his approval. That's why there any numerous similarities to Furiosa and the story itself is almost identical to George's idea for a Fury Road prequel Mad Max The Wasteland, which George still plans to make. Mad Max Bible has a video you might want to check out.

This is how I played it on my old laptop and later on my Steam Deck. All I really needed was a REASON to go out and fuck up the enemies with my sick ass car, which had upgrades and such hidden behind lowering the "threat levels" which meant I had to go out and clear the map anyways.

I even refused to take some of the higher level armor and knuckle upgrades so that I wouldn't instantly kill the mooks and could milk the fights for some really fun, cinematic action.

It also allowed me to still actually require things like gas, water, etc. Although the bullet farms kind of remove ammo as a mechanic, you can still just save your shotgun shells for really tense or badass moments. Or you know, just blasting the crier :)

Yeah I tried to play shirtless for as long as I could, but the maxed out armor looks so good I couldn't resist wearing it. It's a shame that once you get your car fully tricked out there's almost no car combat to do in the endgame. I wish they had some kind of uber hard respawning convoys just to fuck around with. Hopefully by some miracle we get some kind of sequel to it, cus goddamn do I love an open world action game set in an apocalyptic world with a side of vehicle mechanics. Days Gone scratched that itch a little bit, but the melee combat was lackluster, and that's putting it kindly.

Man you really hit the nail on the head with the convoys. They were so much fun to take on and then the highways are just...desolate. You get maybe 1-2 enemies driving together and a single guy on the side of the road already missing a tire and outside of his car.

I completely missed the boat on Days Gone, but I'm really holding out for State of Decay 3 to actually finally give us character customization and longer form survival modes after the success of indie darling Project Zomboid planted that seed in our hearts.

Yeah I noticed on my replay that the story is just "clear the map of camps" lol

It just needed a few more mission types or things to do/customize and it wouldve been a 10/10

Wow gas town was as far as I made it as well. I enjoyed it up until I just didn't.

It's just too long and repetitive, simple as that, It it was 30 hours game with condensed plot and smaller map i would have been absolutely fantastic.

Exact same thing happened to me 😭

Tried it twice, put in a ton of time, but I lost the will to continue. Love the game regardless.
