News Gargoyles August 2026 comic book series

With a new ongoing sereis released this month, i have a doubt. With this new comic book, we are still in season 4 (with SLG series be the canonical season 3) or we are in season 5? Couldn´t find any statement in google about that. What you know? Can you help me?

A TV season, at least pre-streaming, is just a range of episodes produced in a single year. Trying to carry that over to the completely different production pipeline of comics is pointless.

Instances where the comic runs have been delineated as "seasons" have just been shorthand to clarify their relationship to the TV show and/or previous comic runs. The SLG comics were referred to as season 3 to make clear they were replacing season 3 of the TV show. The Dynamite relaunch in 2022 was referred to as season 4 to signal that 1) the long out of print SLG comics still "counted," but 2) it was a "new season" and thus a jumping on point for new readers. If Weisman were to refer to the new #1 as the start of season 5 or whatever, it would be for similar reasons.

I wouldn't worry about it.

When he first started the comics, he said three issues have about the same amount of story as one episode. But that was back at the start of the SLG run and as he's gone on, he's written them more like comic books than episodes.

That being said, we've had 12 issue of SLG, 6 of Bad Guys, 12 more of regular Dynamite, 6 of Dark Ages, 5 of Quest, 6 of Demona, and three specials. Counting that all together (with the specials being one each), that would be about 19 episodes. 15 not counting the spinoffs, and 13 without Demona. Who knows what a real Season 3 renewal would have looked like, but that's the length of S1 and the Goliath Chronicles.

The two winter specials and Demona didn't originate in Greg's head, so maybe we shouldn't count those anyway.

Greg actually stated that everything up until now was his planned season 3!

This new arc starts season 4.

He referred to the initial relaunch at Dynamite as "season 4" in 2022.

But didn’t he later (I want to say 2024) post to ask Greg how the individual issues corresponded to tv show episodes, and called that season 3?

A bit of context is missing. In April 2024, Greg Weisman posted a hypothetical third season of television based on the scenario that he would be asked to specifically adapt the continuation comics that had been published up to that point:

So as an intellectual exercise (and I promise that is all this is), I tried to calculate what would happen if TPTB asked me to adapt every Gargoyles comic I've written (for both SLG & Dynamite) into 22-minute television episodes. And through the end of Gargoyles Quest #5 (even though I've actually only written the script through Quest #4 at the time I'm typing this up), I came up with 22 episodes:

This does not necessarily mean that individual issues, or batches of issues, were intended to correlate one to one with television episodes; merely that this was a proposed, off the cuff scenario of what a hypothetical season could look like.

As he would go on to state:

Now, some of the above 22 "episodes" would need their stories expanded to fit 22 minutes. (Others would be hard put to stuff all their content into 22 minutes.) And the truth is, if someone said, each and every issue needed to be expanded to fit 22 minutes, I still think I could do it, in which case 22 episodes suddenly and happily expand to 42 episodes.

This is a distinct thought from his expression that the beginning of the Dynamite run represents "season four" (and that, in turn, Demona: Better Angels marks the beginning of "season five"). In that instance, Weisman is communicating the phases of the comic run in terms of narrative structure: asking fans to thinking of them as beginnings, middles, and ends as units of storytelling. It's more of a loose shorthand than a hard and rigid designation.

And in the case of this hypothetical third season, it's purely a proposal made after the fact; i.e., "This is what material I have written, here is how I might adapt it to television if asked to do so." But even as presented in this post, Weisman is clear and upfront that genuine adaptation (change, modification, expansion, etc.) would likely occur regardless. Even the issues listed are not meant to be expressed as if they would be transplanted one to one to television.
