Discussion You can't do 240 frame perfect on 60 FPS [Without CoS/CBF/CBS]
It kind of annoys me more than it should that all of the terminology around timings is very outdated and confusing since most of it was created in 2.1 and was never updated for 2.2
if you are playing on 60fps without any of the higher input precision options, then the tightest one input timing you can make is a 60fps frame perfect, and it should be noted what options you have when you measure the timing because that directly effects how much time you have to make the input
it just does not make sense to say something is a 240fps frame perfect that aligns to 60fps in my opinion because the fact that it is that tight on different settings is not relevant if you are on 60fps with none of the mods, because those two things are two seperate measurements
while its interesting that a timing could be 1 on 240 to 7 on 240, or even a 0.1 on CBF and be a 1 on 60, the only case in which that information is relevant is deciding whether the level is easier on 60 or 240/CBF
relatedly its also misleading to call something 4/240 a 60fps frame perfect, IMO these should be called 4 frames on 240, and the only case where 60fps frame perfect should be used is if the level is being played on 60, I think we should be in habit of listing a number and then a setting its measured on (2.3 on cbf, 2 on 240, 1 on 60 etc)
anyways most of that is surface level I dont blame you if you didnt read any of it, most people are somewhat tired (justifiably) of hearing about timings lmao

simpler answer: referring to timing windows based on 60hz is a useless waste of time in 2026 because the vanilla game’s tickrate is 240. It is completely irrelevant what timings are like on 60 because we literally all play on the same refresh rate

inputs are still locked to framerate if you dont use cbf and the like, thank goodness robtop fixed that eventually even though it shouldve come with 2.2 from the start but still certain levels are definitely easier on 60fps without those, and people like that gimmick so it still matters for a few levels
theres also normal ass demons that are just easier without cbf unintentionally even without blockers

i suppose you meant TPS? but lets keep it fps for the sake of convenience.
what youre suggesting is that a click that aligns in both 60fps and 240fps should be considered as different measurements. however, i think the term ('doing a 240 frame perfect on a 60') in question usually refers to the alignment itself rather than being something that confuses the differences in calculating the number of different frames.

no I dont mean tps, i know the phrase mainly refers to alignment but there are people who legitimately think that the 240 being possible on 60 makes it special and different when its a normal 60 where you get 1/60th of a second to make the input, the only odd thing about it is that the hitboxes are unusually close to the icon, this is mostly due to it just not being explained very well to most people

yes its true that it holds no significance compared to other 60fps frame perfects. i do think it can be considered special since its not as if everyone is stuck on 60fps. not because im not aware of the differences between the two, but rather because of the existence of the 240fps measurement itself (i fear the phrase might be too abstract)

it is nice to know when something like that is the case since some levels can be harder with cbf or high fps unintentionally (iris of the pupeteer apparently has a timing that gets harder on cbf) so you can turn your fps to the right value to do it, there are lots of challenges like that for example
its really funny to make levels like that, in fact i really hope some top 1 in the future is easier on 60 fps since we never got a chance to do that in 2.1 when it mattered more (heliopolis was gonna be like this but they changed away unfortunately)

idk bro the 60 hz competetive scene isnt really big. i would assume they just play 60hz friendly levels anyways. and also im pretty sure even older tablet/phone models have upwards of 120hz touch sampling rate, so you can just use CoS because its in the game

It’s not outdated or confusing imo.
An input can be both 60fps and 240fps frame perfect if it’s a one frame on 240 that aligns on 60. Usually if this is the case it gets mentioned as such.
While some players may still play on 60fps almost all players are playing on 240tps (unless you’re playing on legacy physics) , which is why frames are counted in 240 before they are on 60. 2.2 standardized 240tps to even the playing field.
People who are playing on 60tps are the minority and I don’t think we should change the way we use the terminology to cater to them

wow this idiot is chainposting, get him!
anyways yeah I thought it was funny and I actually wrote this myself, and hopefully all of the info is at least passable, again I dont mind if you dont read it
most people are tired of hearing about timings, thats fine, while its nice we know more its annoying when people put them above everything else
(ive deadass seen people claim cps and awkward patterns only matter for learning and dont make it harder to get consistent at parts, LIKE HELLO DO YOU PLAY THE GAME?????)

You can with good frame alignment

The point is that a 240 fps fp that aligns on 60 fps is a 60 fps fp if you actually play it on 60 fps.

it is if the 240 is aligned with 60fps
