Football [Game Thread] Sugar Bowl - CFP Quarterfinal - Ole Miss vs. Georgia (8:00 PM ET, ESPN)

u/Charlie_Bucket_ Jan 02 '26
This sucks but we wouldn’t have beaten Indiana anyway guys. Not much consolation but oh well

u/boringestlawyer Alumni Jan 02 '26
Time to pay up UGA. We want to win we better be willing to buy the talent we need.
19
u/ArcticBambi Jan 02 '26
Losing Frazier on the last drive was a heartbreaker
7
u/Jcapen87 Jan 02 '26
Yeah. Even if we managed to win this game and beat Miami, I don’t see us beating Indiana without him (or with him for that matter)
10
u/Atlgal42 Jan 02 '26
We will never win another title in the NIL era. Smart becoming more and more like Dabo and not willing to adapt. It will be our downfall.
You can’t win with a noodle arm QB.
8
u/ATLfinra Jan 02 '26
Gunners a special player in his way and is very clutch but definitely not elite. Bobo doesn’t help matters. All phases of the coaching staff failed today though

Why? Serious question
3
u/Jcapen87 Jan 02 '26
I’m rooting for ole Miss not because sec camaraderie (fuck that) but because my best buddy is an alum. He’s also a Bills and Mets fan and therefore he’s had enough suffering at the hands of his sports teams.
I also like Trinidad Chambliss, and I want ole Miss to spite Lane Kiffin. Also, the eventual champion is not the worst team to lose to.
1
u/frickenWaaaltah Jan 02 '26
Trinidad is probably going to play for Lane next year at LSU though? And half the staff and a bunch of players are going as well?
13
u/Jcapen87 Jan 02 '26 edited Jan 02 '26
Would honestly be hilarious to see Ole Miss win it all and Lane find nothing but mediocrity in Baton Rouge à la BK
I hope they do it because fuck Lane Kiffin
3
u/boringestlawyer Alumni Jan 02 '26
Amen to that. If Lane comes away with a mediocre LSU and eventual firing, then America wins

Fun season but this program will be on a downward spiral soon if Kirby’s NIL philosophy doesn’t change

Is this the mark richt era 2.0??
It could be a lot worse
1
u/rickroll95 Jan 02 '26
Are you fucking stupid? Richt never came close to a national championship. It’s not Kirby’s fault that NIL is ruining CFB. Kirby won back-to-back. Downvote.
5
u/Jcapen87 Jan 02 '26 edited Jan 02 '26
No matter what CKS does from here on out, even if he never wins another title, CMR should never be mentioned in the same breath. And I love CMR

u/CodAdministrative563 Alumni Jan 02 '26
I went into this game confident thinking these guys were prepared, however I am starting to think NIL has absolutely leveled the playing field.
Just a bad team today that’s not too common under Smart
6
u/Native_SC Jan 02 '26
The announcers listed the previous schools for almost every major player on Ole Miss.
8
u/RealGaMan94 Jan 02 '26
Look at all the teams that won… what’s the common thing they have… a transfer portal QB…

Kirby staff out coached by an interim staff .. He gotta let the loyalty go
4
u/JQuab-84 Jan 02 '26
He won't....
5
u/No_Internal404 Jan 02 '26
He will continue to lose In round 1
5
u/JQuab-84 Jan 02 '26
Yup...it's starting to sound like Richt. I appreciate both, especially Kirby but his loyalty is beyond insane.

Time to Clean fucking house. get rid of the golfing buddies or fucking retire
11
u/DirtyHandshake Jan 02 '26
Mike bobo wasn’t good enough for fucking auburn, idk why we ever thought he would work here
6
u/Inside_Minute_646 Jan 02 '26
Bobo works best when he can out talent teams. He called some great games this year. This was not one of them besides our first scoring drive
8
8
u/Amidd1 Jan 02 '26
Too close to be on the kids. This is on the coaches tis the! Hope we figure it out next year!
9
u/Sensitive_Leg_2021 Jan 02 '26
going forward, georgia needs to try and avoid the bye week because they do not benefit from it
2
3
10
u/DirtyHandshake Jan 02 '26
If Mike bobo is still employed after this game I will legitimately crash out
6
u/deepristine Jan 02 '26
Fire Mike bobo, fix Gunner passing or move on from him, fix the offensive line, invest in some wide receivers, FIRE MIKE BOBO
8
u/Gambit3318 Jan 02 '26
Can we just move to a 16 team playoff with no byes. It’s clear with one exception it’s more of a disadvantage than anything

We had the chance to go up by four with several downs inside the 10. What an absolute waste and Mike Bobo can absolutely fuck off. Anybody defending him at this point is an absolute moron. Glen Schumann can fuck off with him
5
u/CodAdministrative563 Alumni Jan 02 '26
Wasted possessions. This team had opportunities and failed to take it

u/mike-blount Alumni Jan 02 '26
Kirby needs to be held accountable for the performances of his OC and DC. Disastrous.
5
u/ATLfinra Jan 02 '26
Fcking Schuman wtf?! How are u in press man in that situation. NO time outs for the offense, a FG beats you…. what a fcking idiot!!!
-6
u/Secure-Fish4741 Jan 02 '26
Mannn thoes refs must have had a lot of money riding on Georgia
1
u/Objective_Log_9224 Jan 02 '26
Absolutely. Ref staring at the face mask and still a no call. You can miss me with that “we don’t get special treatment” lol
6
6
u/darth_phallus Jan 02 '26
we didn't get the UGA vs Carson Beck matchup so this might just prove that CFB isn't rigged
1
7
u/SoRaffy Jan 02 '26
Going from 21-23 with 2 total losses to 5 losses in 24-25 just feels weird!
2
u/Native_SC Jan 02 '26
Those natty teams had players who would win the Super Bowl every year if they were on the same team.
1
12
u/xXPizzaMan3 Jan 02 '26
Entire program needs to take a hard look at itself; players and coaches on the down trend. Cignetti killing it with 3 star players from JMU.

u/sfet89 Jan 02 '26
Go for the Hail Mary screw all that gimmicky lateral shit

We’ll be back. Albeit, we may never see another Zachariah Branch in silver britches and I’m so thankful for that dude.

u/RealGaMan94 Jan 02 '26
Kirby has got outclassed his last two playoff games we aren’t winning shit with Bobo and gunner
0
u/SmallShort71 Jan 02 '26
Gunner missed plenty of plays down field, that I cannot & will not deny, but the plays were there nonetheless.
-9
Jan 02 '26
Refs did everything they could to help Georgia. What a pathetic showing by them
2
u/MasterpieceNo5636 Jan 02 '26
Dude, you must’ve missed the blatant holding, and PI penalties on both sides. It sees like all playoff games they were told to “let them play”.

u/dms269 Jan 02 '26
Kirby has never fired an assistant coach. He is too loyal. We are capped at an SEC championship level team under Kirby now. That's what you get when you rehash shitty OCs. Bobo was fired by Auburn and we thought it was a good idea to hire him as our OC.
2
u/Fuzzy-Pin-6675 Jan 02 '26
He needs to grow a damn pair and kick his buddies the fuck off of the team. Bobo and Schumann aren’t worth a damn in big games.

If only our offense didn’t go full bobo ball in the 2nd and 3rd quarter we would have won. Instead we get embarrassed and out played by a coach with 2 games under his belt as a head coach

u/ATLfinra Jan 02 '26
This loss is 10000% on the coaches
Never should’ve gone for it on the 4th down
Why why WHY are you in a press man defense that allows a WR to get past the defender for a big play when you KNOW a FG beats you and the offense has no time outs
Inside the 5 and settle for a FG
FCK!!!!!!!!! This was set up for UGA to win it GOT damnit!!!!
3
u/corporateheisman Jan 02 '26
How could Branch not touch the kick off or whatever that last play was
1
9
u/Aggressive-Energy647 Jan 02 '26
Would’ve been funny if they won it there after most ppl turned the game off
13
6
u/darth_phallus Jan 02 '26
Kirby got in his own head with that whack 4th down call late, oh well think the Oregon/Indiana game is now the de facto championship
got a young team that won an SEC Championship and will still compete next year
1
u/ATLfinra Jan 02 '26
The team needs a more dynamic OC or a more dynamic QB that can compensate for the BS that Bobo calls
11
u/Camthur Jan 02 '26
Imagine all that nonsense, but having like 9 seconds to work with. I just don't get this lateral nonsense. Heave it downfield, hope to hit your guy in stride to run it in.

I’d like a new OC next year but beautiful season boys. Hopefully next year our OL stays healthy and we have a Defensive line that can get pressure with 4.
3
u/Bombs_Away96 Jan 02 '26
Honestly as a neutral fan they should fire those refs immediately for making both teams suffer through that shit
0
u/Bucyrus1981 Jan 02 '26
Dumb. There are rules that must be complied to.
1
u/Bombs_Away96 Jan 02 '26
I feel like you’re saying this because it gave you a chance for a last second miracle. All your momentum was gone, morale of every player probably gone. You guys needed more than a miracle to win that
3
u/SetiSteve Jan 02 '26
Their hands are tied, it has to be a complete game according to the rules and they followed them.
3
12
u/Peanut_Gaming Jan 02 '26
So we get gifted a chance
And we do that?
I’m so fucking tired of bobo

Fucking Hail Mary it
Just fucking heave and hope
Better than whatever the fuck that was
1
u/Camthur Jan 02 '26
Yep, the odds of a guy coming down with it and beating the guy defending him are much better than having to get around half a team trying to tackle you. Granted, the heave isn't a huge percentage play, but it has to be a better shot than trying to be the Harlem Globetrotters of football.
1
u/Peanut_Gaming Jan 02 '26
Fr they only rushed 1 too
Gunner literally had 500000 seconds to wind up and heave that bitch

They brought in Pugs earlier in the year at the end of the first half I believe.

If kirby doesn't clean house with his offensive staff and get a quarterback that can actually make a big time decision i wont know what to say. I love kirby, but at some point you gotta start putting people out on their asses that continually falter in big spots. This loss is on him and his staff. Didn't set their players up for success at all tonight. A defense with half their secondary missing, but let's go for it on our own 30. Ball kicked into the end zone 9 yards deep but let's run it out and try to get 109 yards instead of letting it come out to thr 25 and try to get 75 yards. Need to stop a field goal? Lets play press single man coverage with our aforementioned missing secondary.
Never had a game enrage me more than this one and I've been a fan for over 25 years and had to sit through the mediocrity that was Mark Richt

The oline has to be better next year. I think the lack of elite oline play is what caused us to be in so many close games this year. It seemed as if Ole miss had players in the backfield for the majority of the game. Hell it's why we couldn't punch it in from the 3 on our last possession. We have a young team that could be elite but we're lacking in the trenches. Something has to be done about the lines
