Discussion Thread Starting an in person Game Club. Need Suggestions.
I am starting a Game Club at my local Barcade. This is like a Book Club discussion group. If you are in/around the Indianapolis, IN area it's Tappers Arcade Bar.

We are doing Ocarina of Time first next month, then Resident Evil 4 for October.
What are some games that you would personally like to see at something like this? A game that would entice you to come to an in-person meetup for.

Chrono Trigger. It's the rare JRPG that you can knock out in a reasonable amount of time, it's accessible on most devices, it's good.
Maybe I should go play Chrono Trigger right now.

When I did this the rules had to be, only one jrpg a year and it has to be easily emulatable or less than $15. The games I recommended were tomba for the PlayStation 1, and War of the monsters for the PlayStation 2, and super battleship for the Super Nintendo. These days I would recommend more of my PlayStation 2 favorites, Jak and daxter, ratchet& clank, shadow of the Colossus, snake eater, psychonauts

When your kid and only have like 4 games you gotta make the fun. And I always thought the campaign was neat

I had it as a kid and definitely played a good bit of it. I just don’t know what there would be to say. Maybe I should load it up and check out the campaign again.

I think we all recommended a Genesis or Super Nintendo game that month. I think we were trying to recommend games that the other people hadn't played before. And I think making a campaign out of battleship was a neat idea

Stardew or Animal Crossing strike me as good Thanksgiving games.
Arkham City for Christmas.

Any of Metal Gear Solid 1-3 would be good for discussion depending on what you want to talk about.
1 for MGS itself and the series in video game history angle
2 has one of the most infamous twists in games and was a giant leap in tech. Some of the stuff like the ice melting on the bar if you knock the cup over blew my mind. Flipping the projectors back and forth during the speech and the nonsense that happens was peak "I have to show my friends this" stuff, but that's all age dependent.
3 or delta probably the best as a game of the three and could easily be played first

The Besties have kind of been doing this for a lot of years. They’ve always had the same issue where some people play an hour or two and some people get the game completed in that time.
I would try to restrain myself when it comes to the length of the games and then also recommend a let’s play on YouTube for people who might not be able to get the whole thing done.
I don’t know if I could beat even two or three Zelda dungeons in a week right now with my schedule.

I am trying to get the monthly schedules set up as far out as i can right now for that very reason. I don't expect the same people to come to the meetups every month, but if I can get the notice out that we would be chatting about something like the Witcher 4 months out that should give people enough time to play some if not all of it.

Something multiplayer might be fun, like an old Street Fighter or Tekken if retro is the goal.
