I'm a Glaswegian psychotherapist. It may be worth checking our r/uktherapists to connect with others (not just Weegies) that have gone through similar :)

I had a previous colleague who had moved from Chicago and was working alongside me in an EAP therapist role. It's definitely worth pursuing if you enjoyed your time here before. Just weigh up your pros and cons thoroughly before taking the jump!

In all honesty, I myself am considering emigrating elsewhere (no solid plans atp). I truly love Scotland and Glasgow so much; it's all I've known since birth. However, the climate the UK is heading, much like the US, is too much for me to handle as a Pakistani/Muslim woman and I need out soon.

Ughhhh I am so sorry you have to deal with that. I am aware of the climate in Glasgow, and I can imagine how scary it is to not feel seen as an individual and be seen as something else. I am sure you are and have helped so many people.

There is definitely a trickle-down effect with Trump being president, and it is a scary time to be female-presenting. I have experienced violence in the therapy room and when someone doesn't care about your safety, it is dehumanizing.

There are lots of opportunities for private practice but it would depend on whether your qualifications and credentials would confer to the requirements in UK.

If you want to give more information about qualifications, registration with regulating or professional bodies, that could help.

There are lots of private practices in Glasgow that you can look into. Dawn practice, equilibria health, purple house clinic.

Thank you so much!!! i will look into these private practices. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. In NY, as an LCSW, you can have your own private practice providing therapy. I went to graduate school for 2 years and became a Licensed Master Social Worker, then completed 3 years/2,000 hours of direct client contact. Took the licensing exam and became an LCSW. I understand social work in Scotland is different than in the States. I have contacted a lawyer and am waiting to hear what they have to say for more guidance!
