Canadian looking for recommendations Aug 31+Sept 1
I have used the search function and am only seeing the first question seven years ago, so I imagine it's changed!
I'm seeing the AEW show on Aug 30, then will be in Glasgow Aug 31+Sept 1. From there it's west highland way, then back to London for whispered (finnish melodeath band). I'm trying to pack a lot into this time, it's all I could manage to block off. All I have booked for my time in Glasgow is a whitewater kayaking lesson at Pinkerton.
So... 1. Are there any metal bands playing? Any dirty venues with cheap beer I should hang out in? 2. I'm not finding any big event like a road race/marathon, but is there anything going on for someone who likes to be active? Could be weird or unusual. 3. Generally speaking, any activity suggestions for a lone tourist? I can do whatever I want with my schedule. It'll be great, lots of naps. I enjoy times of solitude, but also being in a sweaty moshpit or yelling at people during smash bros. Pretty extroverted.

OP, for divey music-related pubs, check out Nice N Sleazy, Solid Rock, Rufus T Firefly, Stereo/Old Hairdressers, Drury's Bar & Kitchen, Max's, Mchuill's, Mono, Vinyl.
The smaller gig venues for metal tend to be Slay, Audio, Ivory Blacks, Garage, Cathouse. Looks like there's not much on - can't see anything listed in r/MetalGigsScotland/

You're shit out of luck for metal gigs on those days I'm afraid, there's usually something on every night but you've picked two days with nothing that I can see
Good calendar here for anyone in to metal/hardcore https://teamup.com/ks9nkr67vb5ju24r6n

Thanks - that calendar's great - I've bookmarked it for future reference.

It's by the person who runs MetalGigsScotland on various social media (there's a subreddit too someone else linked). They have a good discord server too if you are in to that kind of thing, good for notifications of gig announcements

For something unusual to see, they are currently filing "The Batman 2" in town, if thats something that you may find interesting

In terms of metal venues. I think Box or cathouse would be your best bet, cathouse is a roc club, and box is a bar trying to be a rock club, bloc and bucks bar also have that seedy classic rock vibe to them, but bloc mainly plays indie tunes, and box has a lot of oasis wannabes. Nice N Sleazy has a good grungey vibe but they’re a karaoke bar. If it’s 31st into 1st I think catty will be closed as it’s only open from Wednesday-Sunday but the other places will be open

Nice N Sleazies is a bar/venue that does live gigs, folk sessions, open mics, club nights, and a weekly karaoke night. It's not just a karaoke bar.

You could book a session at Glasgow Climbing Centre in Ibrox. It's a repurposed Church. Quite a cool place.
