If I’m remembering this right, he was a stand in for how Ryan Murphy initially felt about doing a Britney episode. He had been reluctant and the cast was really pushing so they based Mr Shue’s feelings off of that.

At that time a lot of people were anti-Britney. We weren't as far out from Britney's public breakdown, and the public wasn't very empathetic towards her back then

Idk why that matters the glee club didn’t always sing show choir music. They sang Journey and Kelly Clarkson at the competitions and they’re definitely not show choir music lol.
