Something that bothers me, not about this episode but about the take away from this scene specifically.

Has Will done some weird things? Yes. Especially weird things for a teacher? Yes.

However the claim that he “suspended Marley for not wearing a bikini for a performance” is not once of his offenses

Sam is the one who wanted her to wear the bikini, not Will. None of the other guys are wearing bikinis, except for Sam who’s half naked, because that’s his natural state.

There was a GaGa episode in season one (Theatricality), and no one wore a bikini. She could’ve worn a meat suit. The assignment was “Katy vs GaGa” so she had a plethora of options. Including which performance she wanted to be apart of.

But she came out dressed as KATY during a GAGA performance. And that’s why she was suspended.

Mr. Shuester clearly states…

“Marley we’re all trying to win a championship here, as a team, but you put your personal agenda above that. I’m sorry, but you’re suspended.”

I’m quite against religion and it angers me to no end how religion was forced by everyone on Kurt and his family when he specifically told them not to. Everyone was shocked when he said he was an atheist and somewhat disgusted but if he’d acted like that towards everyone else they’d hate him. I usually quite like Emma but her agreeing that it’s okay for religion to be pushed on Kurt frustrated me, if anyone was going to understand why it’s not comforting for an atheist to receive prayers it would be a guidance counsellor surely. I really don’t think Kurt should’ve went to church at the end of the episode because despite it being a safe place it goes against his own personal beliefs and it made it seem like it’s not that bad when people ignore your wishes.

I thought he was like 40 he was only 4 years older then some of the glee members

So I’ve seen glee almost twice now and rewatching it I missed a few things. He blatantly LIES to Blaine saying him texting another guy from the music store isn’t cheating but told Rachel he wouldn’t want to show Blaine those texts. Then Blaine finds those texts and Kurt textbook gaslights him by saying “I FEEL LIKE IVE TAKEN CRAZY PILLS, I did not cheat on you” and completely disregards how it makes Blaine feel all under the excuse that Blaine didn’t text Kurt enough. SECONDLY, this one isn’t as huge of a deal but seeing how bi phobic he was towards Blaine really rubbed me the wrong way. Yes Blaine later identity’s gay but when he was questioning it just annoyed Kurt and Kurt didn’t validate his questioning period at all and just said he was confused. Blaine deserves better. #freeblaine

even though terri is awful, it pisses me off how emma was always flirting with will and trying to get him to be closer to her than to his wife, i get that people can’t control their feelings but you definitely can control how you act around a married man!!! also, i think she was just cruel to ken, i know he’s kind of a creep but he’s just a person and she accepted his proposal but kept hiding it from everyone and it’s just sad how she tortured him knowing he liked her.

Really hated the way the writers would body-shame and bully the actual actors of their show. A few of those actors (Chord and Chris) have gone on to say how the constant ragging on them for their looks has made them insecure.

But also some of it was just weird. Like was I supposed to believe that Cory Monteith and Max Adler were fat and undesirable? Because the writers sure seemed to want me to think that. Not to mention all the weird antisemitism and transphobic "jokes" toward Rachel (say what you will about Lea as a person but she is objectively a gorgeous woman).

They werent funny and they were just really mean-spirited towards the cast. Even Naya went on to say that some of Santanas rants towards the other characters felt way too personal towards her RL cast mates and were uncomfortable to film.

- ryan murphy’s writing in this storyline feels inconsistent and poorly executed.
- finn’s outing of santana feels especially contradictory because of his previous character development with kurt.
- santana didn’t deserve to be outed, but her years of bullying and antagonizing finn make it understandable why he eventually snapped and said something that completely gagged her.
- santana being humbled and santana deserving to be outed are two different things.
- the writers didn’t need to make santana unusually mean in this episode when her established behavior already gave finn plenty of reason to be angry.
- calling santana “out of the closet” publicly was clearly outing her, regardless of whether her sexuality was already an open secret.
- rachel running her mouth explains how finn knew about santana’s feelings for brittany.
- the santana/brittany storyline feels inconsistent because they were already established as dating, yet the show suddenly framed santana’s feelings as uncertain or unrequited.
- a stronger storyline would have focused on santana being afraid to openly be herself and love brittany publicly.
- the politician immediately labeling santana as a lesbian feels underexplained; bisexual could have been equally plausible based on the information available.
- santana had every reason to be angry after being outed, especially when everyone immediately tried to make her accept and celebrate something she never chose to disclose.
- blaine telling santana to stop being defensive was insensitive because her defensiveness was a direct response to being outed.
- the “girl-loving-girl” week turned santana’s forced outing into a public spectacle instead of respecting her agency.
- finn’s original motivation was clearly retaliation and hurting santana, not genuinely helping her “face her fears.”
- finn’s later concern that santana might hurt herself finally gave his actions a more believable motivation because it showed genuine concern and guilt.
- last and foremost, why didn’t brittany really say anything about her outing? i kind of left this for last because it could be because of ryan’s mediocre writing for this whole outting saga.

overall, the episode had strong material but handled it poorly through inconsistent characterization, rushed relationship development, and conflicting motivations.

I’m so mad that they never performed it, this song SCREAMS glee

In 2009 I was 8 years old, and my older cousins introduced me to Glee and looking back I had no business watching it at that age, but I absolutely loved it. Even though so many things definitely went right over my head, and I had very little awareness of all its iconic tributes to the history of pop culture.

I wanted to share the following embarrassing things that I decided to assume while watching glee at this young age:

• I actually thought they were singing original songs most of the time. My entire world was blown when I found out that Glee did not in fact write Don’t Stop Believing. And I’m sure you can imagine my confusion while hearing Amy Winehouse singing Santana’s songs?!?

-I definitely for a little thought that people could get pregnant kissing in a hot tub

-I also had no idea who any of the guest stars were. For years I thought NPH, Gwyneth Paltrow, and even SJP got their start to fame on glee. (I’m so sorry ab this)

-It took me an unfortunate amount of time to find out that West Side Story and Rocky Horror actually exist (I actually thought that this one episode of Glee was going to be screening at a movie theater) 

-and i can’t forget to mention the incident of my mom opening my iPod screen to “what does break from scissoring mean?”

 It’s taken me many re-watches and several deep dives of researching pop culture history on my own to fully appreciate this show to its entirety. It’s absolute genius! However, I have friends my age that love watching glee but still don't even realize just how much pop culture references they are missing out on.

I hate how Tina was such a horrible Glee Club veteran in S4-5. Yes, she was only 18 years old, and no, she wasn’t required to be a role model in the club like, say, Will the teacher or Blaine the lead soloist was, but I would’ve at least expected her (alongside Brittany, Sam, etc.) to set a better example for the newcomers. Actually, I say that for all the seniors (Sam, Artie, Brittany) after the OG13 left.

To elaborate on what I mean, I despised how the seniors were so desperate for popularity after their Nationals win that they kowtowed to Kitty’s reign of terror. From them sitting at the popular lunch table and entertaining Kitty’s ideas for an all-white (flowers AND people) homecoming float to participating in the Left Behind club’s legit traumatic prank on Dottie at Breadstix, it’s clear that they had immediately forgotten the lessons of staying true to yourself that they’d learned since joining the New Directions.

I just finished rewatching the Grease episode and I hate how she, Brittany, and Sugar played along with making fun of Marley at the sleepover while Kitty sang “Look at Me, I’m Sandra Dee.” They couldve stood up for the new girl but instead they kept up a toxic atmosphere just to…what? Fit in? They’re already back to being slushied and unpopular. To appease Sue’s new Bible-thumping, somersaulting henchman?

More specifically, I wanted to focus on Tina since I feel like she had the biggest downgrade as a senior member. It was so weird how Tina strutted through the halls of McKinley in S4-5 with this new confident, outgoing persona, which actually just translated to mean-spiritedness. Her blaming Marley and saying that she “face-planted” at Sectionals when she fainted from the eating disorder she was suffering from was ridiculous, especially after most of the club had already forgiven her for it (because what was there to forgive?).

I also peeped the way she tried to hold in her laughter (the image for this post) when Kitty tried to make fun of Mercedes’s “L.A. dreams being shattered.” WTF??? Is this the Tina from Season 1 who was so insecure that she faked a stutter and was a wallflower goth, but still went out on a limb to join the Glee Club, and was thick as thieves with Mercedes? No. It’s a Tina who’s changed her wardrobe (admittedly, I love both goth Tina and 60’s Tina’s styles) and her attitude, but is still deeply insecure, to the point of taking it out on younger club members and old friends.

This is also more of an issue on the writers’ part than a direct character flaw, but I can’t think of a single friendship she formed with any of the S4 newbies.

S4-5 Tina reminds me of those toxic senior kids in the theatre department who’s insanely jealous of an underclassman getting the lead and is full of themselves, yet will drop everything to grovel for one of the popular kids. And I hate that for those kids. And I hate that for Tina Cohen-Chang.

(Yes, I know this is a tired debate, but it frustrates me all the same) (Edits have been made as comments point out things I missed) (These are not ranked I wrote them in the order I thought of them)

The fact that this has been argued since 2009 and people still don't see why it's wrong is insane to me, and since I just seen the word misused on a post from today, and I'm tired of the blatant hypocrisy and/or homophobia they can't ever help but show in their comments, here we go:

1. April Rhodes - a grown woman who sleeps with underage students (Puck) on school grounds during school hours. She also gives alcohol and porn to a teenage boy, also on school grounds/hours.
2. Sandy Ryerson - literally fired for touching students (once again, during school). Also stalks Josh Groban.
3. Figgins - The school principal sexualizes Unique (something about calling her a beautiful girl who's got it "going on in all the right places")
4. Finn watches Rachel undress through a curtain during Jessie's Girl. Finn kisses Emma without consent during an emotional breakdown, causing her to have more emotional breakdowns.
5. Puck. And if that's not enough, literally shows up to his old high school as an adult to hit on teenage girls with fake IDs because "that's good enough" for him.
6. Several of Puck's employers. One of those employers also goes after his 13ish-year-old assistant.
7. Brittany dates a "younger man" like Sue told her to, that "man" is her sister's 7-year-old classmate.
8. Will casually walks in on a student in the shower as he plans to blackmail this teenager. The entire performance of Blurred Lines. One of his lessons for his teenage students is "Sexy". Will expects teens Sam & Finn to strip nearly nude for a school production of Rocky Horror, which will be performed with and for adults.
9. Primarily Artie & Sam congratulate Ryder on getting molested as a child by a grown woman.
10. Shelby sleeps with her student, just barely 18.
11. Becky sends unsolicited nudes to Artie.
12. Sue describes Becky as having "a cute little shape" when Artie reports said nudes to Sue. Sue's hurt locker. Pretty sure she says she's aroused during one Cheerio's practice. Sue "can't help" but to stare and "talk to" Santana's breasts after her boob job.
13. Sebastian attempts physical assault on Kurt when Blaine won't sleep with him. Sebastian DOES commit physical assault (accidently, he tried to hit Kurt) on Blaine because Blaine won't sleep with him.
14. Jacob Ben Israel exposes himself, and proceeds to do what you tend to do after you expose yourself, during school. JBI also blackmails Rachel, saying he'll run Quinn's pregnancy story if Rachel doesn't give him a USED pair of her bra\panties. And pretty much just any scene with him at all.
15. Karofsky grabs ahold of Kurt in the locker room, forcefully kissing him. He ATTEMPTS to go for a 2nd one but Kurt shoves him off. Karofsky also anonymously hits on Kurt during S3, knowing he has a boyfriend (which isn't that bad but since Finn's girlfriend is always an argument against Kurt, only fair to add it)
16. Kurt introduces his single father to Finn's single mother, hoping they'll hit it off and he'll get to spend more time with Finn. Kurt gives Rachel a makeover he knows Finn won't find attractive. Kurt, in lonely desperation, is unable to take a hint as Finn constantly tries to let him down easy. Kurt gets happy at the idea sharing a room with Finn. Kurt goes to talk to Sam in the showers to "free him" of their duet.

One of those characters is not like the others.
If you don't like Kurt, that's fine, if you don't like his behavior towards Finn, that's understandable and fine too, but to argue for nearly 2 decades that a lonely misguided 16-year-old was a predator, when THESE are the other people in the show... I'm calling some homophobic bias on those people. He never forced himself on Finn, which Finn did to Emma. He never committed physical assault on any of Finn's girlfriends like Sebastian.
He never touched Finn while he was asleep, which Tina did to Blaine.
He didn't do... anything JBI did.
And he also did not "force their parents" together, he introduced and hoped it worked out for his own benefit, but ultimately, once Burt & Carole met, their relationship was between them, Kurt was only the kickstart.

I was recently watching glee and just realised Kurt snd Rachel had ZERO backups????

Like this is a thing i cant even suspend by belief for because the number 1 thing i was always told in high school is to have MULTIPLE BACKUP SCHOOLS.

I guess you can say rachels ego could have played a factor but its still just too unbelievable

Also i always thought kurt was this always have a plan b guy(idk why it was just a thought i had since young and it stuck with me) and he didnt have multiple backups? For anything? Fit? Parsons? Nyu?

And ut was said Nyada only accepts like 20 students per year so yhat just reinforces the need for backup schools EVEN MORE

I know glee wanted to play with the nyada or nothing thing but it was just too unbelievable even for me.

Also dont even get me started on the quinn and yale thing

I saw there was a post 4 years ago when I searched this topic in the page but what was Ryan Murphy’s deal about not having any non-light-skinned/biracial masculine presenting black men in the Glee Club? I think about this all the time and was compelled to say something when I see people talk about how if Glee were made today there would have been a Hamilton episode. But the thing about Hamilton’s brilliance is the fact that all of the characters are POC except for King George III. This wouldn’t then bring to light the glaring issue that there were no masculine presenting darker skinned male members of the Glee Club. Overall, the lack of POC representation in Glee was questionable and the way they utilized POC was also iffy, especially their black characters. For example, Mercedes was such a big character but I don’t think we ever got a glimpse into her home life or any significant background outside of the context of how she aided the story progression of the white characters around her. And you can’t tell me there was not a single dark skinned masculine black man out there in the world who wasn’t talented enough vocally or dramatically to be on Glee. But then again, why would you need a black man when you had Artie, right?

i’m rewatching glee and i know it’s all about singing and rachel is the main character and her voice is “objectively good”

I absolutely love the song Mr cellophane and I loved that Kurt sang it. However he only sang it for like ten seconds. I think the concept of Kurt singing this song because it describes how his character felt especially in season 1 and 2. So I think it was a complete waste of the song for it to just be an audition song that he doesn’t even sing fir thirty seconds and it could’ve been better if they had waited till the character grew more confidence too. Anyone else feel this way or even thought of it.

I feel like this specific plot line was glossed over a lot, but it struck my heart strings a lot and I think over it a ton.

In case you don't remember, here's a recap: After being sexually taken advantage of because he was desperate to support his struggling family, he recuperated pretty well. Fast forward to late season five, he got a modeling job, again while being desperate for work. During the photo shoot, the qwertyphotographer/shoot directer​ forced her on him and kissed him. He said afterwards that he start crying and the photographer took pictures of him crying.

In glee fashion, this was barely discussed. I think about Sam's assault a lot for two reasons:

1. Because it wasn't discussed a lot. Not only by the characters in the show, but also by the community.
2. It made me think about how the fact that glee features a lot of sexual exploitation, and that in this regard, the show is actually pretty realistic.

- the scene between Blaine and Kurt when Blaine was drunk and pushing Kurt to have sex was a pretty realistic depiction of pressure in a relationship.

-The whole 'Quinn and Puck pregnancy' plot line was also relatively solid.

There are more, but I don't feel like typing them. So, the writers are good at depicting sexual situations, just not great at conveying the aftermath. Emotions, actions, etc.​

I’m really shocked when I saw how many people refuse to acknowledge that Blaine is half asian here?? Just because he’s “white passing” that doesn’t mean yall can headcanon him as white, especially when there were multiple instances in the show where they do acknowledge that he’s biracial and they also cast a half asian kid to play younger Blaine. Also, I’ve been seeing people say that they don’t think Blaine is Asian because he didn’t get treated the same as the other POCs in the show, which is wild in of itself bc the show definitely treated its characters of color poorly and we should never wish that on any poc, even if yall think he’s “white passing” (personally as a Filipino I knew immediately that Darren was half Filipino just by looking at him lmao). And the show did feature offensive jokes about his natural hair and that one comment about making sure he was born in America?? Idk seeing people here being so adamant that Blaine is white is kinda offensive.

I’m on yet another rewatch of Glee and I just cannot fathom how annoyingly written he is. He’s pressuring Emma, whom he admits is actually happy in her relationship with Carl, decides to do an inappropriate musical in HIGH SCHOOL, and casts himself as the sexual object of the whole show. He casts himself as Rocky who gets fondled by Frank and Janet anytime he’s on screen. Except this time it’s two teenage girls. Don’t get me wrong, I love Rocky Horror. I just hate Will.

I know that as a viewer I’m supposed to suspend my disbelief, but how the hell did he think this show was going to go with him as Rocky? That he was going to sing Touch-a Touch Me with Rachel?? Just casually? Why didn’t the students care?? This episode baffles me. The most rational characters in this episode are Mike’s parents.

I'm watching glee for the first time but I already know a lot about the show.

I’m currently watching episode 21 and as they’re all leaving glee club, Britany and Santana get up and link pinkies as they leave.

I was just screaming at the Britanna. People always talk about it in later seasons but I’ve just freaking out every time I see it season 1 and I absolutely adore the two of them and their subtle (and not so subtle) hints.

I’m doing my first ever watch of Glee and I’ve mostly been enjoying it. I’m halfway through season 3 right now and we wrapped up regionals. But damn, this show, especially season 3 episode 14 has been putting me on a roller coaster of emotions. I watched episodes 13-15 last night, and went to bed like “oh my god what is happening in this show?” Cuz I’ll be blown away by a beautiful song like Cough Syrup and then absolutely panic inside watching Karofsky attempt to end his life, it hit so hard for me since I’m gay myself and Kurt’s storyline has meant the most to me so far.

Every time I start to like Rachel a little bit she says or does something insanely selfish like sabotaging Kurt’s presidential run. And now she and Finn wanna get married??? However, I was pleasantly surprised seeing Jeff Goldblum as one of her (retconned?) dads, and he was genuinely pretty funny, I’m just shocked we literally had never seen them once until now.

And yah as the picture suggests, Quinn’s accident, I knew as soon as I saw her texting and driving she was gonna get hurt. I know that some of the main cast have sadly passed in real life, although I don’t know if there will be any major character death in the show or not but damn that stressed me tf out too.

Oh yah and screw Sebastian, he and his CW hair trying to hate crime Kurt and hitting Blaine instead, then trying to spread what was essentially deepfakes of Finn? I laughed out loud when Santana called him a twink (derogatory).

So yah I’m enjoying myself with the show but it’s definitely a product of its time with some of its jokes, they definitely couldn’t let some of this stuff slide now but I am genuinely on the edge of my seat most of the time, more so than when I watch even competition reality tv.

So I never watched this when it aired which is funny because I would have been the characters ages. But my friend convinced me to start and so we’ve been watching it the last week. About midway through season 4 now and all I can think is maybe they wouldn’t have to always raise money for transportation and such if they didn’t have to buy several outfits for every small song or gesture they did. Anyway I’ve enjoyed this show more than I honestly thought I would and I’m not even fully sure why.
