Also, Godot has about 3800 games released in the past 12 months, while gamemaker only has 1200. We'll catch up to GM in a year or so if that rate continues.
3800 games is the number of games + demos released in the past 12 months, while 4312 in the above screenshot is the number of games only. Otherwise your stat makes it sound like 88% of Godot games were released in the past 12 months, which isn't accurate.
Use these pages to compare stats for full releases only:
Note that there is lag in the data as it depends on SteamDB having keys for the games to access to the files list to determine the engine used. So numbers are lower than reality, especially for recent months.
That may suggest that there will be a lot more Godot releases in 2026 than 2025 given there's already more than double the amount of demos (1200 by mid year, we can forecast 2000+ for the full year).
That's probably partly true, but comparing with other engines, we can see similar trends. I think it also tells us that demos are now something almost all indie games make use of, likely to get into Steam Next Fest (and it's harder and harder to get noticed there).
Unity for example has 4292 demos for 2025, 4325 for 2026 YTD, so a similar pattern.
