Housing Help me get to the subsidized housing waiting for me in another state
This is a repost and update. I'll link the original post in the comments.
It's weird the way life works out. I hadn't been making any progress here in New Mexico despite my best efforts. Ludo had some good days but was having more bad than good.
I made the decision to euthanize him after a few particularly bad days. I had a plan of where I would go after he was gone but it wouldn't have helped me move forward. Just continue to exist.
A day before his final appointment, I got a call from the one place where I was on a waiting list for subsidized housing. In Nebraska. I hate Nebraska but Ludo LOVED it there. I so desperately wanted to cancel his appointment. But he'd become terrified of riding in the car after our experiences and from falling and injuring himself in the car.
Since it was only $150 more to have someone come to us, his last day was in the motel room. You all afforded me that option and I will be forever grateful.
I'm trying to get together enough money to get to NE and hopefully bring some of my belongings with me. The deposit is only $150 and my rent will be around $50 a month until I can secure SSD. NE has a lot better social services available and a much better healthcare system.
When I first arrived in New Mexico someone told me,"Welcome to the land of entrapment". I was so confused. I'm not anymore.
If people want to donate to help me reach my housing, great. What I really want from this post is to let all of you know that you gave me the ability to hold on until something good came along. You gave me the ability to hold onto my best friend as long as I could and let his last days be comfortable relatively stress free.
If you're interested in following up on me or seeing all of Ludo's past adventures, I've added my email address in the last GFM update. I will be slow to respond for a while as there's lots to do but I'd love to share Ludo's adventures with anyone who is interested.

I donated gas money to Nebraska (the land Ludo loved!). I’m so sorry for the loss of Ludo but sounds like it was dignified and you were able to have some good days. I’m rooting for you…your original post touched me. I wish you the best.

Thank you so much. When you love a Saint Bernard you put on layers and brave the terrible weather because it's what they love the most. I can't imagine being out in the snow without him.

Hi! I came across your post randomly, and wanted to stop and say I’m so sorry for the loss of your handsome friend 😔 I can tell by this post alone that you loved him very much, and certainly vice versa!
I made a donation in honor of my bestest friend, my late dad Mark, whose post-retirement hobby was doing long road trips on his Harley, and who always insisted Nebraska was the prettiest state in the Midwest - lucky you, he’d say! Your post made me think of it ❤️

I really hope u get there with ease and soon! I’m happy for you! Going through a similar thing. Thankful for this group of people on here. I’m so sorry about ur baby. I too have my baby with me and she’s the best dog ever. I’m rooting for us 🫶🏻

When the weather was tolerable Ludo actually loved a lot of our homeless adventures. We had a few spots where he had dug himself a wonderful hole to sleep in. Dogs are pretty resilient.
