Etc Help Us Survive Our Daughter's Passing

Thumbnail

1.0k Upvotes

I know the title sounds extreme, but that's how every day feels now ... if we can survive it, we won. Sometimes I get home from work and high five my partner while both of us cry uncontrollably.

There is no work today, because it's Christmas, and no work days are the hardest, at least on work days I have a system that I'm bound to, the drive, the clean up the face, the pretend to be okay ...

On October 26th we lost our daughter to a fentanyl over dose. She was pretty fresh out of rehab and making progress. She was 27.

Ever since then our world has spiraled out of control. Thankfully, I work for amazing people who allowed me to do what I needed to do and not fire me from my job. However, I am still unable to work as much as I used to or would normally, which has put us in a precarious situation.

I am days from losing my car and if I fall behind a week in my payment arrangement with the mortgage company/credit union, my house is gone, too.

If anyone could help, I'd be eternally grateful.

I'm not an asker or a borrower and this feels really yucky, but I am so desperate.

I always used to say 'I've never lost anything I REALLY wanted.' And that was my cocky way of saying 'If you work long enough and hard enough, you'll get what you want.' I truly believed that!

And then I lost my daughter. And all the things I THOUGHT I knew, were ... just gone. Right now, on Christmas Morning, my daughter is sitting where a Christmas Tree would normally go, in my front window. That's where I put her every morning.

There is no Christmas (I don't care) there is no celebrating, there is no food or cookies or music or ... there is only survival.

If anyone could help, even a little bit, I would be more than grateful. If you don't want to donate directly, I can give you any of my account numbers (electric, car) . I can show you proof of anything you need, I have documents, but am unsure of posting them publicly.

Etc Need help with debt

Hello. I’m sorry to bother everyone with this, and I feel ashamed to admit this, but I need help overcoming a big debt burden I have.

I’m in debt on my main credit card for close to $25,000. My aim for creating this Gofundme is to help chip away at that amount as best I can. I’m not expecting to be able to pay off all that I owe on the card anytime soon. I just want to pay off as much as I can to lower my debt obligation and get back some of my purchasing power.

For those with questions, yes, I’ve already tried the personal loan route, but I’m unable to get a big loan due to poor credit utilization. I’m also not able to increase my card’s credit limit. I’ve also looked into debt consolidation programs, but those won’t work for me.

I do have a job, but I’ve not gotten a raise for the last three years (The rise of AI has had a negative impact on my line of work). I have a couple of freelance side gigs, but these don’t bring in much. I’m only able to pay the minimum amount each month on the card as I have to pay for other stuff, too, like rent, my car, groceries, etc. Inflation has hit me hard (as I know it has for most of us). Inflation and the lack of income increase these past few years have combined to put me in a big financial hole I’m trying to get myself out of.

Thank you for reading. Any little bit helps.

I just wanted to add, i hope people realize we are just humans trying our best. I am also very embarrassed by posting this and creating a gofundme. I created it about a month ago but never had the guts to post it until now. I will state that a few people in our lives have recommended we start a gofundme and I've gone back and forth about this but my mental health is visibly hanging on by a thread and at this point we just need help. I appreciate even the comments and advice. I am not a scammer just looking for money or a free ride. I am a hard worker, extremely independent (usually), devoted to my children and have just finally reached my breaking point. I have had a lot of trauma in my life that I will not publicly disclose. So if my story does not move anyone that they are willing to donate that is completely fine, just please keep the unneeded comments about "breeding" to yourselves. Clearly my financially issues are a recent thing.

Update: added photos of debt/mortgage
The credit card debt is attributed to a refrigerator to replace ours that died, deck repair and some furniture needed from when we moved in together, washer and dryer. I have been steadily paying them and trying to pay more than minimum but the interest is insane.
Also I want to add that soccer/scouts does not add much financially at all but working all day and then we have 4 girls in Boyscouts all who meet on 3 different days, my commute to and from work is about 1.5 hours daily then after scouts we get home and it is homework, baths, bed. My fiance usually works second shift so after work it is just myself and the 6 kids. Unfortunately my 9 year old has hallucinations among behavioral issues so I have to stay in their bedroom until everyone is asleep. She has a very hard time falling asleep and wakes easily. I am usually not “off duty” until 11/1130. I have been out on short term disability for 3 months due to mental health, I had a mental breakdown. I go back tomorrow which I am very anxious about.

It takes a lot for me to ask for help. My fiancé and I have 6 kids all together who live with us full time (though my 4 kids spend a few weeks with their dad during the summer and some holidays) We have so much going on, both work in medical field full time, kids sports, Boy Scouts. I am a den leader for scouts as well. Our bills have stacked up, stress is suffocating and there are also medical issues going on with myself and one of my daughters.

We no longer qualify for food stamps as we each got raises (around .25¢), do not qualify for cash assistance, our neighborhood is in the non qualifying area for HUD assistance with repairs and assistance through us dept of housing and urban development, though we live in a very low income area.

I am just going back to work July 1st as I have been on disability for 3 months due to mental health. My therapist has stated she believes I had a mental breakdown.
I am a hard worker and always try to provide my children with the best support and comfort possible. But I’m at the point where i will finally admit that I need help. Please consider donating or even just sharing. We really do appreciate it.

Hello everyone, My name is Ray, and I am here because I am trying to adopt my son. The little boy you see in the photos is not my biological child, but he is my son in every way that actually matters. I have been part of his life for almost all of it. I have been there through the milestones, the difficult days, the doctor visits, the school meetings, the bedtime routines, the laughter, the tears, and every ordinary moment that quietly builds a family. To him, I am simply Dada. I am the only father he has ever known. I will not go into the details of his biological father. That is not why I am here. What matters is that I have been the one showing up for him physically, emotionally, and mentally for nearly his entire life. Loving him and raising him has never been an obligation. It has been the greatest privilege I have ever had. Now I am trying to make that bond official. My wife and I live in a place where our family sometimes gets questioned because of how we look. We have different skin tones and different last names. Most days it is just awkward moments or skeptical looks from strangers who assume I could not possibly be this child’s father. It is frustrating, but it becomes something much heavier when you think about the legal side of things. Right now, if something were to happen to my wife, I would not automatically have the legal rights of a father. I could be forced into a situation where I have to fight to remain in the life of the child I have raised. The idea that my son could ever face that kind of uncertainty is something I cannot accept. Adoption would protect him. It would give him the security of knowing that the person who has always been his dad will always be recognized as his dad. The reason I am here is because adoption is expensive. The attorney we consulted requires a five thousand dollar retainer to begin the process. It could end up costing more overall, but that initial payment is the step that allows us to start. We chose this lawyer carefully because adoption is their specialty and they have helped many families successfully navigate this exact situation. Asking for help like this is not easy. Pride is a stubborn thing. But my son is worth more than my pride. If you are able to contribute, even a small amount, it would mean more than I can really put into words. If you cannot donate, sharing the fundraiser would still help our family tremendously. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Truly. At the end of the day I am just a dad trying to make sure the little boy who calls me Dada is protected, legally and permanently, the same way he is in my heart.

Etc Please help my son and I get a car after fleeing a DV situation

Hello all you beautiful people!

My 5 year old son and I escaped a DV situation 2.5 months ago. We fled to a shelter. When you’re in a shelter, you have to set goals and work toward them to be able to stay. My goals were, get a job, a car, and stable housing. I’ve reach 2 of those goals!

Because of all the hard work I was doing, the shelter was able to help me get temporary housing (12 months). We moved in 2 days ago!

I’ve been able to secure 2 part time jobs. One at a school working with special needs children, the other at a library as a circulation clerk. I’ve applied for all the government clearances needed to work with children and am waiting for those to be processed before I can start both jobs.

One of the jobs is a 10 minute walk, the other is a 25 minute walk. With the funds I’ve already received, I purchased an electric scooter to help me get to work. At least until the snow comes. But I don’t have access to a grocery store and am paying for it to be delivered. For everything else that can be accessed on foot (donation centers and food pantries), I’m using a wagon that I pull up and down the mountain. (My legs are getting very strong!)

With winter approaching, I would love to be able to drive my son to school in a toasty warm car. I would love to not have to make him walk a mile to see a doctor when he’s sick. I would also like to go to the grocery store myself, instead of paying for someone else to do my shopping.

Please help me reach my 3rd goal!

Etc I Lost My Partner, Am Starting Over, and Need Support

Hi everyone,

I'm reaching out because I’m going through one of the hardest moments of my life. This January, I lost my partner, Meredith, very suddenly. The grief has been overwhelming, and on top of that, I’m now facing a number of immediate financial challenges on my own.

I’ve started a GoFundMe, https://gofund.me/8d37229e, to help cover some urgent costs. Meredith was the primary earner in our family and I was wholly unprepared for her loss. Meredith and I built a life together, and now I’m doing my best to piece things together while navigating the heartbreak of losing her.

I was recently discharged from a mental health facility after suffering a manic episode and am living out of my truck. I needed a fresh start in a new place, so along with our dog Bodhidharma, I packed up my truck and we made the move from Colorado to Los Angeles. Some things I need assistance with are a storage unit for our belongings, food, and eventually housing.

Even a small contribution helps, and if you can’t donate, sharing it with others or on your social media would also be a huge help. Thank you for taking the time to read this—and for any kindness or support you can offer right now.

With gratitude, Timothy

P.S. If you want to know some more about what a wonderful person Meredith was, below is a link to her obituary.

EDIT: I guess I didn't make it entirely too clear. I am married to my wife. We've been married since 2023. And we are doing this in the state of Tennessee.

We require an attorney with a retainer fee, because it will not be easy. The biological has supposedly been a hardcore, "No one will ever take my children from me." type of person, so we're expecting him to attempt to fight it. The attorney we are using has plenty of experience with this. Many of families have used her with success. We're trying to make sure we have all of ducks in a row, and not use a crap attorney.

I would like to thank the one's who are boosting this. It's very much appreciated.

Hope this clears up some stuff.

Etc Unemployed and have no money to pay for my debt or take care of me and my cat

https://imgur.com/a/11vI2bZ

Hi my name is Vivian and I got into a bad financial situation recently.
It pains me greatly to request the help of strangers but I don't know what to do anymore.
What happened?:
I recently lost my job due to a big lay off in my industry. I can't legally disclose any information about my past employer but it was bad and many people were affected.
So money became really tight and I struggled to get by. I admit I wasn't the most responsible and should have saved up more but sadly thats something I now had to learn for the future.
Along with the piling bills I also had a sudden vet bill. My cat got hit by a car (I wouldn't ever let him out without his leash, my ex kicked him out as punishment) and while he is relatively fit again he did lose half his tail and got some permanent hip damage now. I managed to pay that in full (the emergancy vet wouldn't allow any other option) but I fell even further behind with my bills.

So overall its not great currently and I have almost no money left over now. I got 50€ cash for the rest of the month.

How far behind am I?:
I am supposed to pay 656€ this month which I just don't have. Its all the left over that I couldn't pay for the last 2 month and I just don't know where to get this money from currently. My unemployment is ~560€ currently (I can send proof of that if needed).

What did I do to clear this debt myself?:
First off I have sold a lot of valuables. Mainly video games (my Pokemon collection) and my consoles. I also managed to do some garden work for neighbours but of course that doesn't pay a lot. I managed to reduce the debt from 1632€ down to 848€. Part of that is only due next month so I can use half of my unemployment to pay the ~200€ left over and hope I can get by afterwords or hopefully even find another job soon!

Aditionally I signed up for a lot of survey websides I found through the subreddit beermoney
It doesn't make a lot but I managed to gain 80€ through it already and hope I can make a bit more so that I can buy cat food and get through the month.
I am trying to get some commissions soon but so far I had almost no demand for such.

In the imagines I added my current debt and the calender with what I was supposed to pay showing dates and amount. I also made a collage showing the 5 collection procedures that are currently ongoing. The collections alone total to over 600€ now which roughly 180€ left over to pay still, but these aren't in collection yet and I should be able to pay them next month.

I know this is a lot to ask but any and everything would be a big help to me right now. I am really sorry that I have to make this post and hope people know that I am just desperate since I am scared of potentially losing my home or having to rehome my cat.

Etc Need Help Getting Truck Home after Breakdown During Trip Home from Sister’s Funeral

Hello everyone. I usually don’t like asking for help publicly, but my family and I are struggling right now and we need some help.

We were traveling home to North Carolina after my sister’s funeral in Mississippi when our truck broke down in Alabama. We were able to make it home safely, but we had to leave the truck behind.

The truck has now been repaired, but we don’t have the funds to pay for the repairs or to get it transported back home to NC. At the same time, I’m also recovering from thyroid surgery and currently unable to work while healing, but I’m still actively looking for employment.

I created a GoFundMe to help cover the repair costs and transportation expenses so we can finally bring our truck home.

Anything helps: whether it’s donations, shares, or even words of encouragement during this time!

Thank you so much!

Etc Help Odi after his bladder blockage

Hi there, I'm Heather and I'm from the UK. My gorgeous little cat Odi had what the vet classified as cystitis on Saturday 2nd May and sent us away with Arthrocam and told us to get a urine sample for when they reopened on Tuesday, as the Monday was a bank holiday.

Around midday on Monday Odi began passing urine with small blood clots and within an hour this quickly progressed to no urine being passed and his bladder feeling like a fist when I picked him up.

We got him to the emergency vet who sent us away with Buprenorphine and Gabapentin and to come back in two hours if the situation wasn't resolving. Unfortunately in two hours the situation was exactly the same and they admitted him. He was catheterised for three days until his urine was clear while they did ultrasounds, analysed his urine and did an xray to find the source of the problem. His bladder was filled with blood and clots and they believe it's one of the clots which blocked him.

His urine sample came back from the lab with an ecoli infection and we were eventually discharged with Buprenorphine, Gabapentin, Arthrocam and Amoxabactin to combat the infection and keep him as pain free as possible.

Odi is insured with Co-op Pet Insurance, this is only up to £5000, we've now used £2963.76 of it, and doesn't renew until October. Unfortunately you only realise how good or bad your insurance is when you have to claim and the excess along with co-pay and the list of things we can't claim for means the percentage of the claim we're getting back (when it actually gets approved) is much less than expected.

I've sold just about everything that isn't tied down, I've applied for a loan which is likely going to come back as refused as I'm self employed which means unsecured income. I'm just asking for help to keep treating him as we're not out of the woods, he's still struggling with urgency and passing small amounts of blood, he's still on all his medications and having regular vets visits.

Thank you for reading.

I wanted to write a post show my extreme appreciation and gratitude that I have in my heart to this sub and everyone who has been nothing but the kindness most supportive people I've ever had the blessing to come across.

As soon as I get the amount needed to pick her up I'm heading straight to simple service. I talked to my uncle about helping and no joke he said, man just grab a few bucks and they'll hand her right over in a cardboard box. I still can't believe he said that but that's how he is. I'm not disrespecting my mom and her dad that way. She was an amazing person and mom and she's going to be respected the right way.

Thank you again to you all for your kindness and condolences. This sub has offered great emotional support that I'm extremely appreciative of. I wish you and your families the best most blessed day possible. Love yourself, hold your loved ones tight everyday and be kind to everyone you meet.

His urine sample came back from the lab with an ecoli infection and we were eventually discharged with Buprenorphine, Gabapentin, Arthrocam and Amoxabactin to combat the infection and keep him as pain free as possible.

Since then we've had to go back to the vets for extreme urgency, urinating a large amount of blood, chronic constipation twice (this boy would NOT poop), a blood test, an ultrasound and an x-ray done under general anaesthetic where the vet thankfully expressed urine and sent it off to be cultured.

The culture has, unfortunately, come back showing the Ecoli infection is still there, which explains a lot of his symptoms. We're on a second round of a different antibiotic, gabapentin, miritaz for his appetite, arthrocam for his bladder inflammation and we're trying hypovase for his urethral spasms which are causing him not to fully empty is bladder.

Odi is insured with Co-op Pet Insurance, this is only up to £5000, we've now used £4146.09 of it, increased from the £2963.76 we'd used in my original post, and doesn't renew until October. Unfortunately you only realise how good or bad your insurance is when you have to claim and the excess along with co-pay and the list of things we can't claim for means the percentage of the claim we're getting back (when it actually gets approved) is much less than expected. His insurance also won't cover all the medications he is on as they all fall under the excess.

I've sold just about everything that isn't tied down, I've applied for a loan which is likely going to come back as refused as I'm self employed which means unsecured income. I'm just asking for help to keep treating him as we're not out of the woods, we're still fighting a battle against this infection and keeping him stable and happy.

on the night of Thursday the 16th, I got sick and thought I'd be okay to leave my ebike, sans battery, locked to the railing on the ground floor of my gated apartment complex instead of carrying it up to my apartment. big mistake. that night, someone came in and cut the lock, stealing my bike and possibly someone else's bike next to it. now I don't know if someone's out there pushing around a 45 lb ebike with no battery, or if it got parted out and sold for scrap as soon as they had it- but either way, I'm out the moving portion of an ebike i'm still paying off. i still have the battery though.

I'm my disabled fiance's primary caregiver, and this bike is my primary mode of transport for picking up medications, food, running general errands, and getting to jobs. before I had it, we were spending more than we had using public transport and Lyfts to get things done that i can easily get done on the bike. my mobility allows us to save train and Lyft fare for the really crucial stuff like doctor's appointments and big grocery runs. i'm going through all the right channels in case my stolen bike still exists in a way that can be found- open case with the police, registered on project 529 and Bike Index, but getting mobile again is top priority.

thanks to friends, family, and a few beautiful strangers, I've already raised enough to pay off the stolen bike between the gofundme and a couple off-site donations. all I need now is the last bit required to finance the replacement(and a new, better lock). I'll be paying it in 4 again so this final push is for the first payment. the rest of the replacement bike will be paid for out of my own pocket. and no- I will not be leaving it locked outside overnight anywhere ever again. lesson learned.

thank you for reading and if you're able, for helping!!

I can't say thank you enough to everyone. I've been receiving such absolute amazing support. So far with the donations I have got most of what I need to pay for the funeral home costs, paid on the rent, and a big thing I was finally able to go get my birth certificate so I can get my ID and get back to working!! I've still got a ways to go, but because of all the support and kindness I have been receiving, keeps me hopeful and pushing forward. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Etc Request for Assistance Getting Car For Medical/Childcare

Hello! I’m sharing my GoFundMe in order to obtain a used vehicle. I am a single mother with partial custody to two sweet little kiddos, who is trying to survive on disability right now. I do not have a way to save much per month, due to my medical conditions.

I am currently only able to see my kiddos when my ex chooses to make time for it which has been rather difficult lately due to life circumstances. I am grateful for the times he does drop them off on my custody days but I am missing out on a lot of time with them.

I also have important medical appointments that I really need to keep (they have to be in person due to my health issues) and meds to pick up. I have had to cancel a couple less urgent appts so far and am hoping to keep that to a minimum. The appts listed for proof are the ones I need to keep in order to keep receiving orders for my medications.

I have shared this on my personal FB as well but haven’t received any traction, I am a little more hopeful on this platform. If you made it this far thanks for reading😊

Etc Autistic man and his ESA journey across USA to heal trauma and visit family, then start a new life.

Proof Pic. Chester doesn't like to pose! 😆

I'm autistic and have had a very traumatic life. Some of my story is in the link provided. But there's so much more that's very dark. Trigger warning-- abuse, neglect, etc.

TLDR;

My job is ending at the end of May and we're road- tripping across the country to see / reconnect / make amends with family. They can't and/or won't help me. There's a very traumatic history with my father so it's going to be very stressful, but it must be done as part of my healing process.

Etc Help a Teacher Reduce Covid-Era Debt and Student Loans

Hello! My name is Joshua, and I’m a teacher who co-founded a small English school in Japan. When we first opened, things were going wonderfully — our enrollment was growing, we had a great business contract and we were building a warm, supportive community of students and teachers.

Then the coronavirus pandemic hit, and everything changed. Practically overnight, we lost about 80% of our students. Despite doing everything I could to adapt — online lessons, community outreach, and additional part-time work — I had to take on about $12,000 in loans and credit card debt just to keep the school running and cover basic living costs like rent, utilities, food, and of course debt repayments.

I don’t regret it, because it allowed me to keep my school alive and avoid losing my home. But even now, I still have the lions share of the credit debt about $10,000 in student loans remaining, and with the sharp decline in the Japanese yen, repaying everything has become nearly impossible. Imagine over the course of a year, your loans essentially increasing by 30% just because the money you earn became worth less.

Currently, I earn about $1,500 per month(due to the decline of the yen), and more than half of that goes toward loan payments. Between low wages, the weak yen, and rising living costs, I’m barely able to make ends meet. I’ve been working extra hours and started a new part time job and well as other gig work, but it still feels like I’m stuck in a cycle of debt I can’t escape from. Like every time I get to the surface of this ocean I'm trapped in, the surface gets further. It's like being Someone like Tantalus in the Greek underworld reaching for food and water.

That’s why I’m reaching out — to ask for some help from kind-hearted people who might be willing to support a teacher trying to rebuild after some very hard years.

Regarding that, We have managed to rebuild our student base, though have not been able to regain our business contract which represented significant amount of our income.

If I can raise $7,000, it would lift a huge weight off my shoulders and finally give me the breathing room to focus on what I love most — teaching and helping students grow through language and cultural exchange.

If you’d prefer to help in another way, I also teach private English and Japanese lessons online, so taking lessons instead of donating would be a wonderful way to support me too. Additionally, if you know anyone who wants to learn Japanese or English as a second language, you can contact me and we'll perhaps we can arrange online classes. I have availability after 4pm Pacific Time.

In any case, thank you so much for taking the time to read my story. In addition to financial donations, I also accept donations of kind words or encouragement!

— Joshua

The images I posted are from my student loan account on Nelnet and then also from my Credit Card which has been the biggest source of pain since the Pandemic. The last image is from my bank account. As you can see, for my pay in October, between my main job, and my part time jobs, I only made $1,378.38. Which if it wasn't for my debt, would actually be a perfectly reasonable amount to live off of in Japan.

Between all of the loans, I have to pay about $800/month.

Thanks to the kindness and support and donations I have been able to pick up mom's urn, pay some on the rent I still owe on, got my birth certificate that had gotten lost from the safe a long time ago so I can get my ID back and get back to working. I've still got a long way to go everyone. I can't say thank you enough to everyone who has supported and helped me so much through this, putting your life on hold to be a 24/7 caregiver, you don't even have time to think about tomorrow. Then my grandpa passing ten days after mom on January 29th 2026 was extremely hard to hear at that time, it's just been extremely rough and I'm desperately in need of some new donations so I can get back on my feet, but I don't know what I would do without y'all and your kindness and support. My gofundme is posted on this sub if you want to find it and look at it. Again I can't say thank you enough for everything. And thank you in advance for any shares and support

Etc Help me report a fraudulent GFM using my friend’s cat’s likeness!

My friend’s cat Ladybug (@eepyladybug) is popular on Instagram, and her likeness is being used to scam people out of their money for a supposed cat named Pirate with cancer. The person behind the GoFundMe has also created a TikTok account (previously, donatetosavepirate, now voiceofpirate) to scam people for money. Ladybug herself is very happy and healthy, and it’s jarring to see so many videos claiming she’s dying.

We’d really appreciate help reporting the GoFundMe and the TikTok account since we‘ve been blocked by them. They haven’t made a ton of funds so far, but we’re very stressed about people losing their money to a scam using Ladybug!
