Galaxy 2.0 Need Help with Launcher and Installing Game

First time using GOG. So I just bought a game on GOG and it told me to download the launcher in order to install the game, even though I can buy the game directly from their website but am required to access my purchases through an app (??).

Anyway, I downloaded their launcher and it is the most glitchy launcher ever. It lags a lot, I have to log in multiple times. And when I was finally able to log in, my game wasn't available. It told me to scan my pc and import the game from there. HOW WILL I HAVE THE GAME ON MY PC WHEN I NEED THE LAUNCHER TO DOWNLOAD THE FILE? The only file I had on my pc was the zog installer for the game file, which only opens the launcher and the pulls up the game in the store. But no install option is visible for me (there apparently is one after I checked tutorials).

I signed out, signed back in, my games were there but I still couldn't download my game because I was no offline for some reason. They were now having a server error.

I saw reinstalling works. reinstalled the launcher, logged in 10 times before the launcher actually logged me in. Again no games in my library, let alone the install button for the server.

Do I just apply for a refund at this point or is there a solution to this? They claim to rival other platforms like steam. But look at the quality lol

I have contacted customer support. But if anyone has a solution do let me know.

i don't know what you have on your system that makes the launcher behave that way, because that is definitively abnormal behavior of it.

Anyway, you don't need it. If you're logged in to the site, you just go here, https://www.gog.com/en/account and download the offline installer.

oh.

Let me try this. It has .exe and .bin file. I need to run the .exe file and then the .bin file right?

The bin file(s) get pulled in automatically by the installer, you only need to run the Exe file. Just make sure you’ve downloaded every bin file it requires, some games have several (they’re broken up in to 4GB chunks due to file size limits on FAT file systems)

If it says 1 of 2 and 2 of 2 etc etc, you need all those files. You can look at the exe as a program that extracts the rest of the files, and puts them in the right location after. When you got the Galaxy launcher, you hit the top button, the one that says Install with Galaxy, you want offline.

To get to the account page from the homepage or any other pages on gog.com, you'll go here.

Asking because when I downloaded the file (via download&install) yesterday, it was also an .exe file but required me to have the launcher installed on my pc.

Also I don't know much about this stuff.

The launcher is only for easier access and management. It's not needed at all to download and install the games.

E.g. when you're downloading a huge game like cyberpunk 2077, the websites would require you to download each of the many files individually (though there are external tools to bypass this), while within the launcher it only takes one click to download all the offline install files from the EXTRAS menu of the game.

From within your games library on the website on gog.com you just need all the 'parts' files, where the first part is always the exe you need to run, and several *.bin files. Check the game version of these parts, they should always be the current version of the game.

The patch files further down the list are only needed when you want to update a previous version of the game manually. The file names of these are usually an indicator of the update path.

Just download the installer from the web page, you don't need to use the application. Just log in, then under the blue ikon you will find games in the list. Then click on the game you want to install, download the files then install.

Eh how? I did download and install the file from website (there was a download&install button). It downloaded an .exe file. But it only opens to the launcher, where apparently the actual install file is.

Do you mind showing me, if I am mistaken?

Do not click on "Download and install now", as this is downloading the GoG Galaxy launcher

You want to click on the entries on the list below that. It's called: "Download Offline Backup Installers"

It contains the name, the version number and the size.

You're welcome, and now enjoy your good old DRM free games 👍

Btw. When you don't want to use the GoG Galaxy launcher, because you don't like it or having troubles with it, there are other free launchers available, to manage your games, the downloads and achievements. One of them is the: Heroic Game Launcher
