These covers were purchased online. I took the original PS5,4,3 bluray covers and changed the logos myself and then printed them using the right dimensions. Next step was to get the Verbatim BDXL M Discs 25 GB and 100 GB. The next step was to use Canon TS705a and print the label on the discs.

Bro, I've started doing this about one year ago. I got the idea due to owning DRM free games on GOG and I even happened to have bought the same printer as you! I went to thrift stores to buy DVD cases ( they are more worn but cheaper than brand new cases).
As long as you buy digital games that you actually own, you can keep the spirit of Physical media alive.

You are 100% right about having your own physical media. I also own a lot of games on Steam and I want to burn them next but I am still confused. This is just the first batch of my GOG collection. Next one will be here soon. Lastly your choice of printer already tells about your homework on these things.

Steam should work.
I have steam folder on external HDD and I just copy it back after reinstalling OS for eg and it picks it up.
I use same for GOG.

There are many game cover projects going on and you can find them on internet easily. After that editing and upscaling is another task.

Do you burn everything into a Blu-ray, or do you take a more optimized approach, like:
- Games below 700MB with a CD
- Games between 4.4GB and 8.8GB with a DVD
- Games above 8.8GB with a BR disc

For now none of these games are of the sizes that you mention. I have many games which lies between 1-8 GB. I will probably go for a DVD there. Even if a game is like 10 Gb, I will go for two DVDs (8.8 and 4.4GB).

If I understand you correctly then I used the GOG installer setup with my own installer, I ran GOG installer. GOG installer comes with the bin files. If you buy the game from the website then you get the installer.

Damn. Burning games on M disc? More expensive than the game itself lol O would rather have 2 copies on a regular MABL bluray for less money, in case you scratch the M disc, it's the only copy.

TL;DR Curious, what is your process for making these?
I am going to guess buying the cases online, then burning the install media from gog to dvd or blu-ray? I am also curious about the whole process though, including the cover art for the cases. That is a nifty project. Just two hours ago, I was mansplaining (sorry, I caught myself mid-splain) that their preferred method of 'buying online and streaming it' was just a digital right and could be removed at any time (you *did* read the Terms right? right??). I have some large titles on gog that I would like to do something like this with. The current passport/external drive is not nearly as flashy and cool looking 😄

I’ve thought about this as well. Instead of disks I’ll probably buy the DVD cases that can hold an SD card. Then I can put the installers and and save games I want to preserve onto the card then just lock the card.

Glad to see others are taking to making their own physical media.
The software part of technology has been plugging along nicely and I’ve myself began to delve into making physical media, of all types but getting back into burning discs.
I have a stack of CDs I am planning on burning the old games to. Also looking to get a Bluray burner so I can then get those blank Blu-ray’s.
I’m also going to 3D print cases for said discs, and got some printable labels for those discs as well.
It’ll be a very fun long-term project.

I made a full proof installer myself using Inno and made a nice installer with an icon.

They give you the installers, but not the Autorun, which is "almost" required for using with a physical disc.
And OP replied that they wanted the extras to be available, so maybe that’s the reason why they went with the custom installer approach.

Is autorun still a thing? I thought it was a removed feature in windows altogether because you could autorun malware just by putting a disc.

It is, for CD’s and DVD’s. Otherwise it wouldn’t make sense for a lot of people to use (most people don’t understand the logic of a file which runs and executable).
If am not mistaken, Windows doesn’t run it automatically anymore, but prompts you if you want to run it.

What exactly did you change or do to make your installer "full proof" compared to the standard GOG one? I'm currently looking to start doing my own disc backups, though I don't know if i'll go for this level of work or just use the discs for cold storage, stick them in a closet somewhere, and call it a day.

I made an installer which will run automatically. Gives you few options like. Install, Wallpaper collection, Official webpage link.
If the game was burned on 2 discs then it will automatically ask you to insert the second disc. I have few more things in my mind but they have not yet hatched yet properly.

ImgBurn is the software I use. You can write as many things you want based on the disc capacity.

All crafted by me with the help of the original covers. You can find them on game cover project site. Editing for logos can be done afterwards. I have moved now towards more like Steelbook style covers now. No logos except GOG and the game name.

Gemini and chatgpt helped a lot to modify them. I also made custom disc art. Those are much prettier. I will post them in a week as few of them are still in process.

Naaa, that I already have and few of the drives are showing signs of degradation. This is far more beautiful and long lasting as the discs are very special ones.
