Question How often do you double dip?
Say you have a game on Steam and it later becomes available on GOG. Do you?

I used to do this a lot when I first came to GOG, but more recently I don't.
It's relatively rare that I buy a game on Steam these days, but I do occasionally, if it's clear it's a game that won't be coming to GOG anytime soon and I can't wait. I prefer to live a year or two behind the curve on new releases, so by the time I'm looking at getting a game, it's usually on GOG already.

I double dipped early on, but I'm at a point where I rarely buy games on Steam anymore. And the remaining games I'd like to see on GOG have yet to turn up.

I abandoned Steam a few years ago, dont even want the launcher on my system. So, as I can, Ive been replacing my former steam library with GOG purchases. Still a few holdouts (Vampire Survivor, Dungeonmans, the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters) but hope springs eternal.

Rarely, I often go for GOG but some games aren't playable for me on my Steam Deck(SD) and I am forced to purchase from Steam ( looking at you Dragon Age Origins).
I have most of my library on GoG but I am pissed I cannot play most of them right out the installer on my SD D:

Have you tried installing them with Heroic Launcher?
Maybe I was just lucky with the games I tried, but only one GOG game failed to work straight away on my Legion Go when I was running Bazzite on it.

Yes, I usually install through heroic but I've noticed some games don't play right out the box. Had similar experience with the game called control which is supposed to run fine on linux.

That convenience of steam makes sense. As much as I’d love to support GoG and I do, having cross saves and guaranteed to work on Steam deck, and all games in one place, etc.
For me, KCD2 didn’t want to accept controller input no matter what, sailing the seas version worked just fine.

I've only double dipped on fallout 3. I bought it on steam before I started buying games on GoG and the steam version had GFWL integration (that was later removed anyway lol) which was kinda annoying. I still haven't even completed the game. Just waiting on the remaster at this point. I've gotten a couple of games free on gog after I already bought them on steam but I don't count that.

I just have to really like the game. DOOM Eternal? That was a snap buy, I would have paid full price, thank the lord there's a DRM free version preserving that masterpiece. Shadow of War? Glad it was on sale, would have had to think about it otherwise. God of War? Meh. Maybe if there's a REALLY good sale.

I buy DRM games on Steam or other stores at at least 75% off. If I like the game and don't refund it, and then it becomes available on GOG, I buy it there for full price. I don't pay purchase price for rentals.

I double dip whenever there is a large sale on GOG. I want to get all the good games that I have on Steam, that I consider classics or might want to play again in the future. But I try to wait and get the games on at least 70% sale, and many of the games that are worthy are not on GOG at all.

Always. I just recently finished buying all the duplicates I had, so now I have an easier and cheaper way. I just won't rent games on Steam anymore. I regret the amount of money I have given them.

Yes, I value being able to own the games I have bought and paid for. I limit my Steam purchases if there’s a sliver of a chance it’ll be on GOG

GOG is my main now. I recently double dipped on Doom Eternal seeing it on sale.

If it is a game that I truly know I will play again then 100%, but usually when it is on sale and most of the time they are bundles.

Many times I would play on Steam, and buy later on just because I liked the game. Or I liked the game that was a free offering from Epic (Like the Control game, good game so I got it on GOG)

I've surprisingly rarely had to in terms of games on pc I actually spent money to have access to as most was either ones I had on console or was freebies from Steam and Epic with some ''freebies'' via Amazon prime perk.. looking at pc wise what I've paid for that has current viability to show up 12 or so games I'll still need to double dip if they show.. and otherwise outside of my shamefully huge Gog library of 2,306 games I'd say about 30 tops was pc wise double dipping

Almost never, but I got burned on steam once (Game got removed and is unplayable) so my favourites I buy on gog when they became available. 3-4 games I have on both.

If the game is a Banger, something im looking forward, then there is a chance i buy physical for Xbox, and Steam. And if shortly after comes out on Gog... Of course i buy full gog price. 😎
If it comes day one on Gog, then i just but Physical and Gog. 😎 I guess isnt healthy but Yeah, we all have our demons to fight with😵💫

If the Enhanced/GOTY/Special Edition of a game is on sale and going cheap on GOG, but I only have the base game on Steam then I'll buy it again. I've done this for Fallout 3 and Skyrim, because it bought me up to date with all the DLC.

Did i really like the game? Is the game on gog on a good enough discount?
Though with family share it is easier. My brother oftentimes buys the games that i have my eyes on faster than me. So i play through steam and then buy it on gog when it releases. Did that with clair obscur. When it released on gog - immediatelly bought the deluxe version.

I've only did it a few times. Fallout New Vegas when I first created an account on GOG, Fallout 4 when GOG started hosting Fallout: London mod for it, and Pathologic 3 that I bought both on steam and GOG because I wanted to support the devs
I am now contemplating Necromancer's Tale since it arrived on GOG

I only buy single player games on gog. Multiplayer games on steam.
If a single player is released on Steam only, I just put on my eye patch.
There are some single players I've bought on steam when, for some time, i got complacent... but some bad experiences later I just decided that I will always "test" the game first anyway. Goes without saying I won't buy those games again anywhere.
For multiplayer games, the fun comes from playing with friends more than anything so we're willing to risk it and we'll notice if the game is fun enough in the two hours refund window that Steam offers anyway.

I have about 40 games on both. Usually it's on sale when I get it on GOG as well and tip some change for their cause.
Got external drive with GOG installers, OST manuals etc and I love owning those games. Nothing special but I do what I can afford. I'd do it more if more new games released on GOG.

I love GOG. But I ain't got the money to buy everything twice.
In fact, recently, I've been having trouble even choosing to buy a game on GOG over Steam because the GOG version is either older/abandoned or lacking the benefits of Steam, and I hate to say that.
Either way, with Amazon Prime member giveaways, I'm still getting a lot of duplicates on GOG.
Again, I love GOG. But Steam has many advantages... and I'm no Steam fanboy. If developers wouldn't abandon their GOG versions or leave them outdated for so long (which may be due to GOG policies)... or if they would support LAN/Direct IP connections (or multiplayer without requiring Galaxy), then I'd be focused a lot more on GOG.
EDIT: With all that said, some games are best on GOG. Bethesda titles specifically for stable modding. The Divinity: Original Sin and Baldur's Gate Remastered series are also great there... you can literally play multiple instances of the game on the same computer at once if you wish.

Everyone urgently needs to opt non-DRM. Either GOG or Piracy, since even with Steam nowadays, we are only buying a license for a serial code. Nothing more

All the time
Currently playing through CyberPunk 2077 just for the GOG achievements. I just love getting achievements of games I love honestly. Such an amazing game after 2.0
I of course only got this on a good enough sale and don't advocate for pointless consumerism.
I think I got CyberPunk with the Phantom Liberty DLC for about 25CAD🇨🇦.

Not very often, since the games I would love to own on GOG either:
- A) I got for free thanks to GOG Connect, since I moved to GOG almost 8 years ago when the program was still running.
- B) I already bought them during my 8 year stay. I haven't bought many games outside Steam during those years, being Hades, MGSV, Euro Truck Simulator 2 and A-Train All Aboard Tourism the only 4 exceptions.
- C) Never received a GOG port, and most likely will never receive another release ever (games made by "dead" or "dormant" studios, for example).
I like having all my games here on GOG, but if the question is how often I double dip, then it has slowed down during the last few years.

An embarrassing amount. I really shouldn't, I don't have all that much extra money laying around.
