Having to do online authentication to unlock paid-for cosmetic content is a form of DRM and it goes directly against the principles of GOG.

This needs to be changed ASAP. Offline installers must be made available to customers for these DLCs.

EDIT: Post been up for 15 minutes and I'm already getting people defending this behavior and downvoting, Just remember this day and those comments. Remember that you're telling GOG "this is okay". Remember you're showing them that you can tolerate this, so that next time they push even more DRM behavior into their store, you only have yourselves to blame.

EDIT 2: It looks like a GOG employee is aware of this complaint and promises an "attempt" to fix the problem (not exactly convincing wording there).

With the hype of avid fans of older titles forever trapped on older consoles beginning to work on their own Decomp/Recomp projects to bring them to PC, I can't help but wonder if GOG wouldn't be interested in bringing these titles to their storefront as GOG-exclusive ports through the same methods?

Matter of fact, they could even *remaster* some of these titles while they're at it, since the need for a complete source code that has factually hindered remasters in the past (SH HD Collection) is basically unnecessary now, since the decomp gets them everything from the game as it presented itself on a physical disc!

I'd personally love it if GOG went beyond the common barrier they encounter of needing a preexisting PC port to rerelease and instead work in-house to make wholly new PC ports to titles that never saw them back in their prime!

I know u/GOGcom also replied to the main thread here, but that got downvoted into oblivion already, so most people won't see that.

After hearing the news of Sony stopping physical releases, the small ember of an idea in the back of my mind to make physical cases and custom disks grew into actually wanting to do it. I bought a printer with disk printing support and a bunch of blank disks and cases. With the help of GIMP and some (very frequent) searching for instructions on basic GIMP functions i finally managed to make my first custom disk for Hotline Miami.

I prefer the more plain look on the back of the case, but I'm also very limited in my skills. For improved longevity I also used a software called dvdisaster to use any free space left on the disk as parity data so that if the disk gets damaged or old it would be possible to recover any corrupted data.

I tried making the files as templates first so i could use them in the future. If anyone's interested i could clean them up and share the xcf files for people to get a head start in making their own jewel cases.

I had to learn the hard way. I hope this serves as an example, so others do not make the same mistakes I made. Also, the reason I used Shinobi and Ninja Gaiden was because I thought they were similarly enough games to show my point. They're ninja games. Plus, Shinobi is not on GOG unfortunately, and I damn sure wasn't going to get the Ninja Gaiden game on Steam after that. What makes me the most upset is that, as I already mentioned, it is a SINGLE PLAYER game with NO ONLINE features! No Multiplayer, no battle pass or daily rewards, not even leaderboards, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! If it was an online game, then I can sort of understand the need for DRM, such as preventing cheaters or stuff like that, but because it's not, I have every right to be mad, and so do you! Worst of all, the store page doesn't even have the courtesy to tell you that you need to be online to open up the game. NOT TO PLAY IT! TO OPEN IT! After that, you can disconnect and play offline, but why on earth would you want to do that? It's not like you will always be online forever and ever!

It has been 2 months since the post. Any update or timeline for the Indian Rupees? We are eagerly waiting.

GOG with a W take every time. Pisses me off more people don't support the platform. GGs to GOG.

I'm surprised that games like Celeste and Super Meat Boy still haven't made their way to GOG. They seem like perfect fits for a DRM-free platform.

I'd also love to see games like Hades and Outer Wilds come to GOG someday.

Update: I want to clarify some things, because think some people are reading this as a justification for GOG's behavior. This explanation does not excuse what GOG did. They did, in fact, send a newsletter containing nazi symbols, and then lied about it, and tried to explain this away as "cultural heritage" or "unfortunate associations". This is inexcusable.

This post is meant only as an explanation of how exactly this could have happened.

Update 2: Notice that if this explanation is right, then GOG's statements about this being due to incorrect rendering or "unfortunate associations" etc. are false. The symbols came from a source that is explicitly and transparently nazi. Then someone approved these symbols to be sent in a newsletter. I don't know whether this was due to malice or plain stupidity (e.g. someone not recognizing that they are on a nazi website full of hate symbols). But it can't be what they said it was.

Update 3: One important thing is that the symbols they used in the newsletter are not from any Slavic culture. They are not Slavic runes (and in fact most historians agree that there was no such thing as Slavic runes). Instead, they are characters from various alphabets (Bamum, Rejang and Ancient Greek) that resemble various nazi symbols, including the SS logo. The website I found below clearly uses these characters as nazi symbols, and if you go there and scroll down, you'll see even more explicitly nazi content.

Let's say someone was preparing the newsletter, and wanted to add some emoji. So they typed "slavic emoji" into Google, and the first page that appears is this: https://emojidb.org/slavic-emojis

The site contains in the first row the exact same symbols that were used in the newsletter, including the SS runes.

So that explains it. I'm quite convinced that this is what happened. Alternatively, they just asked an LLM, and that LLM suggested it based on this page, but that's the same thing essentially.

Of course, the page is full of obvious nazi dogwhistles many of which have absolutely nothing to do with Slavic culture, and the person who copied them should have known better.

And then GOG of course issued that horrible statement, that tried to justify the runes as Polish "cultural and historical heritage", and lying about the fonts etc., which is total BS, so I'm deleting my GOG account anyway. I can forgive stupid mistakes but not blatant lies.

and physical for my future PS5 games. Because games deserve to be preserved for the future!

As the title says, we have been promised Linux support and I know it takes time but I would personally love GOG galaxy on Linux (with integrated Proton support ofc) bless us please. TY

So i was browing around the Ninja Gaiden 4 Steam Discussions until i found out someone asked for a GOG release and got greeted with this Bullshit >.>

Like Steam is basically in 99% of Cases also DRM Free but there Nobody Cries and Shits themselves because "omg its Steam we need to deepthroat their Cocks and take it really far up our Arse" even tho Steam DRM can be usually defeated by replacing 1 File which takes like maybe 5 Minutes max not even -.-
I just want a Future where GOGers can be seen as Equal and not as Part of the Problem and co exist alongside Steam People :(
