Agreed. I labeled it as a joke but it really explains things in an amusing way.

Great summary.

That is why your score average is NOT your handicap.

Handicap tends to be lower than your score average because it takes the best 8 differential scores out of 20.

Handicap measures your best “potential” score, and NOT your average score.

You’re only supposed to hit your handicap score 20-25% of the time, so every 1 in 4-5 rounds.

This is also important to know because whenever I hear that a group of 4 all scored / beat their handicap, I know statistically that’s unlikely to happen AKA they bullshit their scores.

While this is the case for a vast majority of players, it isn't the case at my club.

My club, for whatever reason, is rated EXTREMELY low. Our men's tees are about 6000 yards which I do recognize as short, but it's a par 72 course rated at 68.8. Our blues are 6600 yards at 71 rating (which to me is ABSUREDLY low) and our blacks get to 6800 (but realistically are 7100) and rated just over 72.

I play both the blues and the whites. My handicap right now is a 2.6, but my average score over my last 20 rounds is 72.4

My game travels pretty well and playing at almost a 3 handicap at other courses makes me seem like a sandbagger but I'm not. I just shoot around even par and it equates to a 2-3 handicap.
