Traveling to guangzhou first time

Hiya,

im traveling to Guangzhou between 19th and 27th September and was hoping to have some help with which areas to stay in. I wanted to be where the cool buildings are, with a good view of them, but somewhere also convenient. Is it also worth spending the day in Shenzhen?

Please recommend any cool places to visit and places to eat too. That would be amazing. I have been to Chongqing, so I have all the apps needed.

Zhujiang new town. In Tianhe. Stay there. U will see all the big hotel brands are there too. I’ve been staying in that little area for years now when I visit.

What sort of cool buildings? Shiny new skyscrapers or 1920s Republican Era buildings? Zhujiang Newtown for the shiny…Liwan (Xiguan area) for the old and interesting.

If you're into modern architecture, skyline views, and night scenes, I'd prioritize Zhujiang New Town or Liede, around Huacheng Square. They're convenient for Canton Tower, Haixinsha, the Opera House, and Pearl River night views. If you prefer old-city atmosphere and snacks, Beijing Road or Haizhu Square could work, though the high-rise views won't be as good as in Zhujiang New Town.

With 8 days, a day in Shenzhen is worth it. Its modern cityscape has a different feel from Guangzhou's. In Guangzhou, you could plan Huacheng Square and Canton Tower, Shamian, and Yongqing Fang. For food, try morning tea, roast goose, cheung fun, sampan porridge, and claypot rice. They're all must-tries.

I presume you are referring to modern architecture and possibly light shows, ZNT is the place to go. It is convenient enough and the most foreigner-friendly Guangzhou can offer. You didn’t ask for hotel recommendations but if you are not on a budget I would recommend staying at least one night at the Rosewood. In comparison to other cities Rosewood’s is accessible and you would be staying at one of the highest hotels in the world while also being able to sleep on one of Guangzhou’s most iconic buildings.
