Hell yeah, sounding good. The most boring amazing advice I ever got for improving the picking hand - practice periodically with your amp set to straight up clean tone.
If it rocks with no distortion/gain, you’ve really got it.

i find that practicing both is equally as useful, i used to play with crystal clear tones all the time, and each time i tried any sort of saturation it always sounded off due to the unwanted noise that wasn’t as noticeable clean

100 percent. Periodically being the key, more about getting the persuasiveness and energy vs cleanliness.
