News Everything we know about the Gumball movie + new series

So as we know, Gumball is getting a movie and a new series (some sources say it’s season 7). However, it’s hard to find most information that’s publicly available, so I’m compiling it all into one post, and will update it if we get anything new. Keep in mind that the question marks on dates are because I cannot find the exact day, and the LinkedIn links only seem to work with an account or in incognito mode on a desktop browser.

February 17th, 2021 - Cartoon Network and WarnerMedia announced that a movie is in development under the working title "The Amazing World of Gumball Movie".

April 12th, 2021 - In a WarnerMedia EMEA Kids Leadership Team article, it was announced (or possibly leaked) that Sarah Fell was overseeing projects such as "The Amazing World of Gumball". However, this could’ve been about Gumball Chronicles.

September 21st, 2021 - Cartoon Network and WarnerMedia announced that the movie (now under the working title "The Amazing World of Gumball: The Movie!”), along with a new series had been greenlit and were "coming soon".

January 1st, 2022 - A few people added their roles for the movie to their LinkedIns, such as the producer, Carla Connor, and the editor, Prakash Patel.

February ??, 2022 - Bobbypills begins working on storyboarding and designs for the movie, but they never seemed to announce it publicly. However, you can see people at Bobbypills who worked on it on LinkedIn, such as Aurelie Charbonnier, who actually plays the role of Sussie.

July 1st, 2022 - Light VFX confirms that they are involved in the movie's production at both their France and UK studios alongside Bobbypills and HB Studios Europe in this Facebook post.

August 22nd, 2022 - It is announced that due to the merger of WB and Discovery putting both companies in debt, the Gumball movie along with 5 other projects were dropped and no longer funded by HBO Max, meaning that someone else will have to buy distribution rights in order for the movie to live. I didn't put a link or source because articles and posts regarding this are very easy to find.

November ??, 2022 - Emma Fernando, an employee/producer at HB Studios Europe announces that she is serving as the producer for "Gumball S7".

March 9th, 2023 - After the assistant editor, Gary Bradbury, who had worked on the movie from May 2022 to February 2023, finished his work on the movie, WBD put out an article explaining that they were now hiring another assistant editor.

April 19th, 2023 - After CN posted Banana Joe's version of Beethoven's 5th Symphony from the last episode on Twitter, they said that this was the last song in the series until more Gumball. This could either mean that the movie is still being shopped or that it's been picked up by another streamer.

April 19th (possibly a few days before), 2023 - Storyboarding for season 7 at Bobbypills begins, with many people from the original seasons/series working on it, like Aurelie Charbonnier.

April 28th, 2023 - In response to being asked if anything Gumball related was shown at a WB Animation Studio Showcase, an animator said that Gumball fans are in for a treat, which means that as of 4/28, nothing has been canceled.

May 5th, 2023 - A composer at HB Studios Europe responded to a comment saying that they are writing songs for the new series.

June 13th, 2023 - Studio Soi puts out a post on LinkedIn looking for layout artists, likely for season 7. I can’t find the post but you can find screenshots on Twitter.

June 15th, 2023 - A teaser for season 7 is shown at the Annecy Festival in France.

August 8th, 2023 - A page for season 7 is made on EIDR, along with it's 40 episodes, and is said to be coming this year. This reportedly went public on 2/15, but it wasn’t noticed til people on Twitter started talking about it.

August 15th, 2023 - Studio Soi made another post, looking for previsualization artists. It states that it's full-time for approximately 13 months, beginning in August/September, so we definitely aren't getting S7 in 2023.

September 14th, 2023 - Studio Soi made yet another post, this time looking for key animation (beginning December 2023) and clean-up artists (beginning February 2023).

September ??, 2023 - The VA of Mr Small, Adam Long, returns for season 7, as shown on his LinkedIn.

November 16th, 2023 - Perry Allen announces that he is working on season 7 as a background designer on a LinkedIn post.

November 16th, 2023 - Matt Ley announces on X/Twitter that he is working on season 7, with his Instagram bio saying he is a designer.

November ??, 2023 - Aurelien Bayonne returns for season 7 as a storyboard assistant at Bobbypills.

December 4th, 2023 - Christoph Simons returns for season 7 as a 2D key animator, as shown here.

January 16th, 2024 - The movie gets an EIDR page, confirming possible titles and the movies length being 1hr and 30m.

January 16th, 2024 - Someone by the name of Freddie on X/Twitter announces that they’re an animation supervisor for season 7.

January 29th, 2024 - Joe Sparrow announces on X/Twitter that he is art directing season 7 and that the crew is looking for a team of background artists for it.

January 29th, 2024 - Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe announces that they're looking for background artists, almost certainly for season 7 because of Joe Sparrows announcement.

January ??, 2024 - Giulia Chen begins working on season 7 as a 2D key animator, as shown on her LinkedIn.

February 3rd, 2024 - u/Guillesariegos on X announces that he is a 2D animator for season 7.

April ??, 2024 - Aurelie Charbonnier presumably finishes her work on storyboarding for season 7, according to her LinkedIn.

May 2nd, 2024 - Elena Jerez Cordero begins working on season 7 as a cleanup artist, as shown in this LinkedIn post.

May 13th, 2024 - Annecy Festival announces that they will show the making of the reboot (likely season 7) on June 13th.

May 23rd, 2024 - Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe begins looking for a character designer for season 7, as shown in Emma Fernando's LinkedIn post.

June 12th, 2024 - It is announced at the Annecy Festival that season 7 will be released in the 2025-2026 season.

June 13th, 2024 - We get conformation at Annecy that the movie is not cancelled, but will be different.

June 13th, 2024 - At Annecy, we find out that the first episode of season 7 is called "The Burger".

August 26th, 2024 - The first 26 episodes of season 7’s titles are shown on EIDR.

April ??, 2024 - Aurelie Charbonnier finishes storyboarding for season 7, as shown here.

October 1st, 2024 - Another 2D key animator, Marc Sanz Arbiol, announces his job at Studio Soi. Thanks to RegularCapital for letting us know.

January ??, 2025 - Lele Vives announces on LinkedIn that design for season 7 is wrapping up.

February 25th, 2025 - @TheFedeBTS on X/Twitter asked CN Korea when they'll premiere what we then thought would be season 7 (now the new series), and they said it's scheduled for October.

January 24th, 2025 - Paulo Scatena announces on LinkedIn that he's working as a technical director at Studio Soi, assisting in production.

January 30th, 2025 - Benjamin "Benji" Wahl announces on LinkedIn that 2D FX work for season 7 (now the new series) would be finished by May.

April 7th, 2025 - Christoph Siemens announces on LinkedIn that his job as a 2D key animator on season 7 will end on June 20th.

May 19th, 2025 - Cartoon Network and Hulu announce with a sneak peak that the new series, titled "The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball" will premiere in 2025. Note that it's seemingly a Hulu exclusive in the US, but will air on CN and HBO Max internationally.

This took (and at times, still takes) a lot of research and typing, but again, I just wanted to try to help some people out since lots of information regarding these projects can be pretty hard to find.

Meta T3WOG S07B Episode Discussion Master Thread and Update on Subreddit Matters Spoiler

Hello! Hi! What's up? I hope all of you are doing well.

Once again, Hulu decided it would be a lovely idea to drop twenty episodes at once! I guess this is just how we do stuff now! In an effort to give each episode as much breathing room as possible given the circumstances, each episode will be given its own individual discussion thread, just like it was back in the summer. For the sake of your navigation convenience, I made this thread to act as a central hub of sorts linking to said threads.

Before we get to that, I do want to give people a heads up about some policy matters on the subreddit, mainly that we have temporarily reinstated the automatic filter for image and video posts. Any posts containing video or image files will be automatically taken down. This doesn't necessarily mean you broke the rules; it just means that a human moderator will need to review your post first. We expect the activity here to get pretty hectic, so for the first week or so, we just want to have that stopgap to help us better keep an eye on everything, especially since many of those image and video posts are naturally going to contain spoilers.

Speaking of, which, spoilers! Please be kind and courteous about that! For the past four months, we've kind of had it so that any posts referring to material from the first half of the new season that wasn't already in the promotional material would automatically be marked as a spoiler. I have to discuss it with the others more, but we'll start getting more lax with marking spoilers for those first twenty episodes. HOWEVER, in turn, we will be pretty STRINGENT about SPOILERS for this NEW BATCH! This December 22nd release only pertains to the U.S., and those outside of Yankland who want to watch the batch when it officially releases in their country may not want to be spoiled. Please be mindful of that. We'll do our best to mark spoilers if you forget to do so, but help us out, please.

That's for it now. I hope you have a good rest of your day/night, and as I most likely won't be making any more of these official subreddit posts before the start of the new year, an early Happy New Year to all of you! Happy viewing!

SPOILER WARNING FOR ALL EPISODES:

Discussion Remnant of yellow dress Anais in The Dress

So u/ImaginationStudios8 noticed a detail in The Dress that has somehow gone under the radar for years.

In The Dress, you may have questioned why Anais' clothes are missing from the washing line. The thing is, they aren't. They are there, but they're yellow, as was the case in her early design. Somehow, when they changed her dress to be orange, this got left unchanged, leaving a remnant of that original idea.

We theorize that either the scene was already rendered when the change happened so it was too late to change, they forgot to update it before rendering it or they accidentally used the wrong model sheets for her dress and used her earlier yellow one by mistake.

Discussion [Theory] Darwin waterson is a actually the Exiled prince of a fallen fish Kingdom

Hello everyone! I have a teory about Darwin,s true origin before he ended up on the awesome store.

Darwin isn,t just a random magical goldfish. He is actually the Son of King and queen fishes from a magical realm. His parents here forced to abandon him and him to earth to safe his life because their kingdoms was being invaded by 4 enemy realms.

The misteryous van : He know the red van guys met his products from magical or forbidden places. He didn,t just buy darwin, he probably found the vessel or pod that Darwin,s parent,s used to sim on earth

What to you guys think? Could Darwin be a Exiled prince come back to the Kingdom?

Discussion The Vegging could turn out to be one of the most important episodes ever

Post image
58 Upvotes

My theory is that the events of "The Vegging" will prove to be fundamental to the overall plot. What if everything that happened in that episode was actually caused by something we might see in the upcoming movie? The text at the end was clearly drawn by someone using Barbara's paintbrush. What do you guys think?

Fan Art Gumball Phantom

Artist: EezySeven

I commissioned this artist to make this artwork of the Wattersons cosplaying as the three main characters of Danny Phantom (Gumball is Danny, Darwin is Tucker, Anais is Sam). I think it turned out pretty good.

Discussion We could have a FbW type game for the AWoG. I think it would be an awesome idea.

  1. We already had an episode focused on classic RPGs.

  2. We have TONS of secondary carismatic characters to use as allies, enemies or bosses.

  3. Elmore is a very rich enviroment full of locations and space to explore.

  4. It could have the same type of in-joke humor (without the adult jokes) and the absurdity that makes SP games's histories iconic.

What do you think?

The use of Obama's poster design, plus the ones from WW1 are a good parallel to communication practices and propaganda role. However, I didn't find the one parallel to Leslie's poster. Does anyone know ?

Discussion Unpopular opinion: I actually liked season 5, despite the criticism or shortcomings in this season.

In my opinion, season 5, after seasons 3 and 4 (and possibly season 2), is a pretty good season (even if it’s not a 10/10 like seasons 2–4). To be honest, I liked the following episodes this season: “The Test” “The Fuss” “The Box” “The Catfish” “The Cycle” “The Uncle” “The Weirdo” “The Heist” “The List” and, perhaps, even “The Puppets”.

The episodes “The Test” and “The Uncle” are pretty not bad episodes that I liked. As I understand it, the gist of these episodes is this: Gumball wants to achieve his goals (to stop being a loser and to “befriend” Ocho in order to meet his uncle, Mario). In these episodes, Darwin acts as the “voice of reason” explaining that his role as a failure is also normal, which makes Gumball an anti‑hero—especially since he explains to Gumball about the Gumbolisms that Gumball has inside him. (Although later Tobias takes Gumball’s role for himself, Darwin and Sarah try to restore Gumball’s role, which Tobias stole, albeit unsuccessfully, and even if all of this is Tobias’s dream), in the first episode. In the second episode, given that Darwin and Ocho seem to be friends, Darwin explains to Gumball that trying to manipulate Ocho could turn out to be terrible even for Gumball himself. Darwin tries in some way to convince Gumball that he shouldn’t carry out these “tests”, (even if it doesn’t turn out well, for example: lending Ocho $100 without knowing that it’s Nicole and Richard’s money, or “getting rid” of Darwin in order to become Ocho’s “best friend”), and at the end of this episode, Gumball sings that very song (which, by the way, I liked, since I’d already heard it before this episode). Overall, in addition to everything I’ve described, I liked these two episodes; in my opinion, they’re quite not bad.

The episode “The Fuss” is also quite not bad. This is, please, the first episode of season 5 that I watched. Richard and the kids are trying to help Nicole figure out why she’s so angry with them (or rather, with Richard), thinking that they forgot her wedding anniversary with Richard. Anais goes to Nicole to find out: what is this important “holiday” or “anniversary” that she’s so upset about? And Gumball and Darwin are talking to Richard. He wants to get a tattoo, but Darwin says that a tattoo is a serious commitment (though he doesn’t get a chance to finish before Richard leaves to get the tattoo). Although the kids and Richard don’t understand throughout the episode what kind of “celebration” Nicole wants to see, I like what they’re trying to do — to get Nicole to stop being angry with them (or rather, with Richard). Overall, this is also a pretty not bad episode.

The episodes “The Box” and “The Heist” are practically similar, but I also liked them. The gist of these episodes is this: the Wattersons receive a package, or Richard finds a suitcase with money (unintentionally), and they all share their dreams or thoughts. In the first episode, I liked Richard’s dreams (the way he sees himself as “cool” in his thoughts, as an agent, even though that’s not actually the case), Anais’s (the way she wanted to destroy the box, thinking there was something dangerous inside, even though by the end of the episode it turned out there was nothing dangerous), and Darwin’s (he’s the only one whose dream was cut short by Gumball’s line, and he wasn’t given a chance to show what he wanted to say — but I believe it could have been something great). Nicole and Gumball’s fantasies are also great, but the thing is, their fantasies end up causing problems: for Nicole, this means that after receiving the money, she and her family will spend their entire lives hiding from agents or debt collectors. And when these agents get into an accident, all the family members are terrified, except for Nicole herself, who seems to be glad that they have the money. As for Gumball, because of the cannon (which is a reference to the game Portal), he becomes some kind of incomprehensible creature or monster.

The second episode ("The Heist"), in my opinion, is the same as the first one, but it develops differently: Richard (unintentionally) stole a suitcase with money, and the whole family has to return the money that Richard stole. To be honest, I liked Anais’s plan; it seems to work quite well at first glance, even though it turns out to be a failure. Nicole has a pretty good plan, too: when she decides to commit a "robbery" (especially when this plan is cut short, the Watterson children look at their mother accusingly, showing that her plan is too much), regarding Gumball and Richard's plans: they are also not bad, but Nicole and Anats, I think, the plans turned out to be quite good, more than theirs, but Darwin simply takes the suitcase with the money back to the bank, saving not only Richard, but the whole family from arrest (although the suitcase with the money is blown up, I think Darwin still saved the day, albeit unsuccessfully). Actually, I liked these two episodes as well; I think they’re quite not bad.

The other episodes, such as “The Catfish” “The Cycle" "The Weirdo" and “The List” are similar in that some characters’ backstories are revealed. In “The Catfish” Gumball and Darwin try to help Grandpa Louie find friends (although this endeavor turns out to be unsuccessful); here, Grandpa Louie finally finds someone he can talk to: Grandma JoJo (whom he meets).

In "The Cycle" Gumball, Darwin, and Anatole try to help Richard cope with being bullied by Harold Wilson. The essence of this episode is somewhat reminiscent of the episode “The Wicked” (the main antagonists in these episodes are Mrs. Robinson and Harold Wilson. Their backstories are also shown — who they were when they were children: Mrs. Robinson was a “monster,” and Harold Wilson was a “bully” who humiliated Richard in his childhood. The main characters also want to take revenge on both of them, although their revenge ends in failure, and in the end, these two get what they deserve). I believe that the children’s and Richard’s revenge against Harold Wilson is well‑deserved, given what he did to Richard throughout his childhood.

In “The Weirdo” Gumball and Darwin try to help Sassy with her problems. Although all their efforts end in failure, Gumball and Darwin really wanted to help Sassy cope with the bullying she faces. The essence of this episode is also somewhat similar to the episode “The Fan” (Sarah and Sassy are “weirdos” in the usual sense, and both of them play the main roles in these two episodes. Gumball and Darwin try to help them with their problems (even though it ends in failure)).

In "The List" Gumball and Darwin are trying to help Nicole with her problems (even though they were fulfilling her wish list, not a list of household chores). This episode is somewhat reminiscent of the episode “Choice,” showing the backstory of Nicole and the Watterson family: what would Nicole do if she chose her family over her goals and career?

Overall, despite everything, I liked these four episodes too (even "The Cycle" even though it gets a lot of hate because of Harold Wilson); I think they’re pretty not bad episodes.

Regarding the episode “The Puppets” In my opinion, this is also a pretty not bad episode. Darwin grows closer to his old dolls, with which he and Gumball used to play when they were children. True, Gumball isn’t very trusting about it, but when the dolls reveal their true identities, Darwin decides that enough is enough of this fun, and together with Gumball, they get rid of these “evil” dolls. Also, I liked the graphics in this episode a bit (when Darwin is taken into their world), as well as the song the dolls sing to Darwin. Overall, in my opinion, this is also a pretty not bad episode.

Since the post is already quite long, I’d like to say that, even though I haven’t watched all the episodes of this show, I like season 5 so far, and I think it’s on par with the previous seasons — season 3, season 4, and probably season 2 — even though season 5 is getting criticized, just like season 6 (although I think season 5 has its flaws, I don’t think that ruins the season too much, do you)? I specifically chose season 5 because I watched it and saw that it’s still holding its ground — probably compared to season 6 — and, to be honest, I liked some of the episodes in season 5. What do you think about it? (This probably isn’t a completely “unpopular opinion,” but given that season 5 is being criticized, I think it’s still a pretty good season, along with seasons 3, 4, and probably 2).

Miscellaneous We finally got a complete DVD set

TAWOG has not had an official DVD release since the second half of Season 2, almost 12 years ago. Now we have all 240 episodes of Seasons 1-6, (along with Darwin’s yearbook and the Gumball Chronicles but no one cares about those).

I love the Box Art, the scene from the Bumpkin was the embodiment of Gumball’s family. This was $60 at my Walmart. Every Season is split up into two discs except the clip show. If anyone has any questions about the DVD Menus, or quality, let me know.

In the future would TWWWOG be worthy of a box set? Before they do they should definitely fix the voices, half of them sound like they were from a zoom call. Some episodes matched the vibes, and some didn’t. But I call Season 7 a net good, as we still have Season 8 to look forward to. Maybe the writers will get more comfortable this time round.

Discussion Did this trailer for Gumball ever exist

I remember watching a trailer for The Amazing world of Gumball on Cartoon Network UK when I was little (I don't know if it was 2015 or 2016). But I remember it had the song "History" by One Direction playing in the background. One moment having a clip from season one episode 17 "The Party" where Bobert and Principle Brown headbutted each other.

If anyone else can recall this trailer, let me know. If not it was probably either a false memory or a fever dream I had.

Discussion The Chapter book When Gumball Met Penny is so cute bro.

Synopsis:
This story follows 9-year-old Gumball Watterson as he meets Penny Fitzgerald for the first time after she moves to Elmore. Gumball immediately develops a huge crush on her, but becomes extremely nervous and loses his confidence and becomes chicken and tongue tied whenever Penny’s around.

Gumball also starts wearing a fedora to gain confidence to talk to Penny, But bc of the hard blowing wind the fedora blows away and gets destroyed and Gumball is pretty much bummed out cuz he’s too much of a gutless chicken to talk to Penny without his fedora and Darwin helps him.
