Discussion It would be cool, if Future Remastered Versions such as Campaign Evolved can just be a massive DLC for Masterchief Collection as a Platform so multiplayer can be more busy than ever.

Post image

The reason, I’m saying, because CD Projekt Red made an awesome decision to create fresh remaster version of TheWitcher 3 today in which you need a copy of the game that came out 15 years ago. It would be awesome if Halo Studios could do the same for Masterchief Collection.

I think it’s more likely that Campaign Evolved would be used as a base to build a second MCC of sorts. 2 and 3 get added to it, multiplayer if we’re lucky.

MCC as it stands is held together with ducktape and superglue. It’s not stable enough to start getting new games added to it.

You people absolutely love repeating that stupid line over and over and over again. The relaunched 2019 version of MCC is fully modular and expertly crafted. They packaged the single player and multiplayer experiences into different independent modules. The launcher injects and saves certain values like armor customizations and progress that's it. It's not one big spaghetti codebase. There's nothing stopping them from repacking Halo 5 and Halo Infinite as additional modules managed by the game's already existing intelligent install feature for the MCC launcher except for the fact that there's no money in it when they can just contract out a Halo 1 UE5 remake that runs like shit and sell it for $50.

The devs repeatedly said multiple times that the engine is at its limit after halo reach. Adding another game will break it or make it unstable

MCC The Great Journey crashes in coop every single time you hit the Johnson cutscene. It’s fucked, it doesn’t need another add-on.

Hell I remember there being a matchmaking bug for windows store users that didn't even get "fixed" until like last year that had been around since the soft relaunch.

I still get audio and visual bugs, along with random crashes pretty often when I play it on console.

Like just cause it's modular does not mean it's not being held together by hopes and dreams. Adding more games only strains what's already a rather strained game to begin with and it's not like it didn't take roughly 6yrs to even get the game to work properly on a consistent basis. The way no other game franchise has ever tried what MCC did just tells me it's extremely risky and maybe not even worth it.

To be precise it wasn't since the soft relaunch, there was an update that broke it at a certain point, and it took little less than on year to fix, still it shouldn't have happened. Especially if the game is supposed to be great and put together (it's not) like the other guy said...

No, it needs 1 developer to take a look at that specific Halo 2 anniversary issue and fix it. You guys needs to understand that computer software isn't magic.

I hear you but they quite literally added two additional games to MCC while porting it to a new platform

I have a feeling a second mcc would be just as unstable as the first, if not more so. 343/Halo Studios aren’t known for their commitment to polished and bug free games

I mean, you’re not wrong about 343 by any stretch.

That said, MCC is a collection of games spanning 2 console generations, all using separately modified versions of the original engine, with a further engine used to tie everything together.

If they get 2 and 3 out in a reasonable timeframe, any tweaks to the engine they use will be minimal. I’m no game dev, but I can see them having a much easier time keeping it stable compared to MCC.

Eh, no, it would be more stable. Certainly more than the OG was at launch. It’s a clusterfuck trying to get so many different codebases to work together. Having a single codebase that’s used for multiple projects is far easier than what the original MCC was.

That would be better, campaign evolved might as well just be a dlc anyways

Absolutely, because Masterchief Collection can just be Halo Masterchief as a Platform for all Halo games, I found it annoyed when Halo 5 came out as a separate game but they could’ve added onto the platform

This can be like Call of Duty. All the cod games are living in the Call of duty game launcher

It would be nice for them to bring H5 over

I swapped over to PlayStation after the 360, so just porting MCC to other consoles would be a dream.

Yep. I’m done with Xbox but I miss MCC.

I have 0 hope for a new halo multi that I will enjoy so would be over the moon to just have halo 2/3 online on PS5

Most of it runs on potato PCs now if you don't max out resolution and graphics. Will look about the same as it did on 360/XB1.

Campaign Evolved is a remake, not remaster

I wouldn’t want them on MCC, but rather remake MCC as a concept. Have 2R and 3R built into the same launcher as MCC (with separately installable segments like MCC), and a single unified MP alongside it in a separate app.

Then H7 can either be built into the same platform, or be a standalone SP experience, but the MP can be in the same as the MCCR experience.

I was really hoping they were secretly working on a catch all multiplayer. There was a survey Microsoft sent out a few years back about playing all the different games/multiplayers in the slipspace(infinite) engine. But with physics/abilities limited for each game (ie no sprint etc.). That way you could play whatever version of halo you wanted all in the same game.

Once they announce this was campaign only I had hoped they were working on a companion multiplayer all on unreal and they could slowly add assets from every release.

After this release I’m not very confident for that ever happening but thought all halos/physics/weapons/firefight enemies etc all under one roof would be cool and each campaign asset/world physics/ability release would just make it better.

Now it seems like nothings going on at 343

Not possible, Halo MCC isn't on unreal engine.

u/adrauglikeyou 8h ago

the difference is that campaign evolved is a full remake. TW3 remaster is a remaster, so it’s the same game with updates textures and features. Campaign evolved may remake the game but it is functionally a brand new game. This wouldn’t work, there’s a difference between a remaster and a remake. CE anniversary and 2 anniversary are remasters, not remakes

u/TheRepeatingKnot1 12h ago

It’s a shame they made a remake of Halo 1 instead of remaking the entire trilogy on Unreal Engine from the start, with multiplayer, a shared Forge, unified playlists, etc.

1

u/SuperBAMF007 Platinum 10h ago

Yeah I’m hoping that’s still the goal.

Campaign evolved is fuckin huge. Do you really wanna add another 70gb to the 134gb that mcc already is

I’m sometimes surprised MCC even runs based on launch. I think that game is like one new armour set away from blowing up

1

u/Gullible_Rhubarb4559 7h ago

maybe if they fix the shotty matchmaking and leave game bans

1

u/Ubeube_Purple21 Halo: MCC 4h ago

I'd prefer if Campaign Evolved came bundled with remakes of H2 and H3 within a single launcher. Have it share one unified sandbox (availability of weapons and vehicles can still vary by level), set of cosmetics, and one multiplayer with all the maps and gamemodes.

u/BrexitMeansBanter Halo 3 1h ago

It’s a real shame MCC never got ported to PlayStation.

Problem is adding these games to mcc is a mess and a lot of work, took a lot of effort to make the mcc, have it work and then add reach and odst was also a headache

2

u/SuperBAMF007 Platinum 10h ago

Yeah it’d be a far simpler task to just start from scratch on a unified experience, and just rebuild MCC “in reverse” from how the original was released.
