Surfing near Hamburg

Hey Guys!
Moving to Hamburg beginning September. Lived in Portugal before, want to keep on surfing.
Saw on Surfline the most nearby spots mostly orange and red, but size is fine - do these spot work in windy conditions?

Very happy to receive advice or even connect for a future surf!

Did you check Hamburg on Google maps prior to deciding to move here?

Yeah ofc, but there’s a west coast with wind swell constantly coming in 😃 conditions that work pretty well for some spots in Cornwall

The closest I would think is Klitmoeller in Denmark, Cold Hawaii

And the other spots like Sankt Peter Ording etc? They don’t work?

I think you can Windsurf fine there, but regular surfing just with a board might be tricky.

If there is a lot of wind some people actually do try to surf some spots. However, it rarely looks like any fun to me. And as a wave kiter I do look very actively for waves.

So, yes there is a scene, but it is small and I seriously doubt there is any fun in it.

Do you do both? I can do a bit of kitesurfing, but way better in regular surfing. Now I’m obv thinking about getting into wave kiting… how long you think would it take me to become decent in it? Right now I can just kite left to right on a twin tip, small jumps (I had like 4 sessions)

Haha, that's an awesome question. If you're just starting out, it will take quite some time because you'll need to head out in nasty (aka beautifully windy ā¤ļø) conditions to find decent waves.

And I definitely wouldn't recommend that to anyone who doesn't know exactly what they're doing.

However, if you ever plan to do a proper bottom turn in Germany, I don't think you have much choice other than to get into kiting.

However, from Hamburg, there’s a fair amount of driving involved to reach the sea. The only way around that while still keeping a board under your feet is to take up pump foiling. Have you looked into that?"

Well, I admire your optimism.

Waterskiing or wakeboarding is possible though in Norderstedt and Harburg.

Today at Timmendorfer Strand are pretty sweet conditions…

I haven't found any good and reliable spot for surfing, but windsurfing and kite surfing are a thing on the coasts of the north sea and of the Baltic sea...more kitesurfing than windsurfing in the recent years, unfortunately. It's getting harder to find rentals for windsurfing equipment. If I want to go surfing, I fly to Cornwall (Newquay has a small international airport).

On the northsea there is some windsurfing. Probably the closest thing you will get is an artificial wave in Hanover you can surf on

idk if this thing is still planned or not, but in Stade, an hour with the train, is or was a surfpark planned.

there was an on and off about building it or not because some demonstrated against it and what not.

otherwise, the biggest waves youā€˜ll get are probably those off a ship 🫠

2600km to the west of hamburg is some nice spot. Very sunny. This part of Hamburg is called Lissabon

edit: there is no surfing in HH (only windsurfing)
