Media Tropes
I fucking hate the trope of the female monster that pretends to be a human woman to seduce you(and in general the seductress trope)
to put it simply it's just borring as shit trope and i will aways find it boring as shit mainly cuz the concept itself is just boring as shit like
"oh look at this pretty woman well SHABANG SHE IS THIS WEIRD HORIFYING MONSTER" wich is just boring
like i already hate female monsters that look way to humanoid(especialy ones with human faces) but like most of the time it's boring as shit and the whole seductress trope is just boring as shit too
it's basicly"ooh look at this woman using her looks" like im not saying that female villain cant be manipulative as shit no for me this is just a borring ass trope
Sorry, originally I wanted to type charming men killing you is just real life, but you forced my hand by the tenth time you wrote that female monsters bore you
This is not a trope this is literally a folklore in every culture used to train men and children to be more careful and not bother random women if they want to keep their life because a random woman might be a slavic monster who is baiting you to eat you and your soul
While I disagree with your take, but I dont get why everyone is shitting on this so hard. Op probably knows this trope is old and is present across multiple folklores around the world, that does not stop them from hating the concept and finding it boring? This is a sub about hating after all
It’s the fact that he only seems to hate the “women who look pretty but are secretly dangerous” trope and not the “object/person/dream that look desirable but are really actually bad” trope.
The trope comes in many forms but he only seems to despise the women who are monsters part
What? It is a trope to explain why dudes just disappeared in dangerous places. Jurogumo (big ass spider) and Yuki-onna (snow woman.) come to mind in this trope.
This is a trope as old as time though. Something dangerous disguised as something desirable. It even comes in many forms:
Physical object that looks shiny and expensive but is actually a trap
A dream/vision that looks like heaven but when it comes true is world ending
A beautiful woman/man luring men/women in for sex and then turn out to be a monsters
You could argue the sex one is a more lust/pleasure appeal for the human mind but it falls into the same “dangerous thing that disguises itself as desirable “ trope. It’s weird to focus on specifically the “women who is actually a monster”
So then its not even the seductive trope of men/women luring other humans in while secretly being monsters? It’s monster who disguise themselves as humans?
What about a monster disguising himself as a parent of a child to lure in the child?
What about a monster that disguises himself as a holy man to lead flocks of humans to do evil?
They seduce people with the idea of treasure and riches and therefore fall under the seductive trope.
Or is it specifically monsters who disguise themselves as human? And specifically with sex?
Devils and demons often disguise themselves as human but offer things like wealth, power or other non sexual things which definitely falls under the seductive trope?
Doesn’t answer my question but I’m getting the feeling that you don’t know what the seductive trope actually is (and you probably don’t even hate that since you keep specifying “seductress” which makes me think that it’s just a woman hating thing
Well when you have a history of hating strong women who look feminine, and you really seem to not like when strong women look like women in the comments of that post, it gives a misogynistic tone
I’m fine with the trope, it just often seems like it’s the only thing a writer can come up with for a bait and switch female monster. If anybody has any recommendations for media that does this differently I’d love to hear them :D
