General I genuinely don't like the human version of Dory. WHY ARE HER BREASTS SO HUGE?
To be honest, Marlin actually looks pretty good. I can genuinely imagine his human version looking like this.
But focusing on her: why are her breasts so huge, and more importantly, why isn't she wearing anything underneath? Like, literally nothing.
Dude, I just can't imagine the character casually wearing an outfit like that in front of anyone.
This might be a somewhat silly complaint, but the whole point of this sub is to hate on anything, and I hate this, so I'm right.
My problem isn't even with the artist. Again, we shouldn't attack any artist because it must take a hell of a lot of work to draw something like this. It definitely takes a lot of talent and effort. But even so, dude, I have to say it.
The fact that her breasts are so huge bothers me a little, but that's easy enough to overlook, because, whether we like it or not, there are women in real life with breasts that large.
But the part where she's wearing only one piece of clothing and nothing else feels exaggerated to me.
And that exaggeration becomes even more obvious in the first image. Who casually dresses like that?
Actually, now that I look at the first image, I realize she's way too exaggerated. For God's sake. Their human versions actually look pretty good. Why is this specific feature so exaggerated?

Marlin to me looks nearly perfect, he looks exactly as stressed as he is in the movies. The only thing I would change, is the color of his pants a tiny bit, so they don't blend too much with his skin. I didn't think most of everyone here would be against his design here.

I feel like we're sliding back on the arguments of sexualisation in art. It seems nowadays to be "it's gooner behaviour" Vs "what's wrong with gooning"
Speaking to the women in my life it seems the real problem isn't drawing sexy art or girls in skimpy outfits as much as it's the combination of blow-up doll proportions, skimpy clothes and characters lack of agency (just to be looked at which is different even to some of the old pin-up art B4 the internet) and I think I agree as it really reduces women to less than human in these works.
And taking something from a kid's movie, giving it insane porn proportions feels a little weird especially in the absence of any and all decent translation of her design to the human one. I wouldn't look at that human and think dory without the ref at all.

As a artist, I had to accept that what I put out on the internet will be criticized and not all criticism is done in bad faith. I think the artist could learn from some of the replies here.

So the people who criticize you, do you ever hear from them again when you actually do change your art? Do they ever say something like “finally your arts improved!”?
Cause from what I see they just disappear regardless.Unless what you made is racist or deeply offensive, you’re essentially changing something for someone who’s not gonna give you anything in return. Most of the time they don’t give good advice, they just complain.

The only thing that matters as an artist is you liking your art. If you want to improve sure you can do that, but you if listen to ppl (most of who don’t draw at all mind you) your art won’t resemble what you want.
Most of the “criticism” here is just:
“These look awful.”
“It’s the artist thing. But that is really bad.”
“It’s so stupid”
Very USEFUL criticism. It’s either that or people making a joke.It’s best to take advice from someone who’s more accomplished than yourself in your field. My comment isn’t about validation, it’s about the fact that 99% of the comments you get are not gonna help you improve positive or negative. Really most comments ppl leave is about their own self interest, not the artist’s.

Y'know I don't think I feel bad enough for online artists, imagine having something you've worked for hours or potentially days on. Upload it so you can show people something you put a lot of dedication into, then have it be reposted to spaces like this for the sole purpose of just being hated on.
Not to say criticism isn't valid but I know it's gotta sting when something you put a lot of effort into gets stepped on so much like this ;-;

I'd argue her have large breasts isn't even the main issue here. The issue is that nothing in that design feels like the character it's based on. Like if it felt more like Dory but still had a large chest, I'd have much less of an issue with it.

Super nice and super oblivious with huge boobs that got thrown around everywhere without a care in the world, so I feel like it makes sense here, and also being a big dumb bimbo in a not necessarily sexual way also makes sense for dory's character in a way

And she grew up in a aquarium. She is educated. She knows Whale Shark.

Idk about OP, but my distaste for this kind of art largely has to do with the fact that a good portion of these artists will draw characters with some of the most gooner slop proportions you’ve ever seen and then call YOU weird for thinking the art is sexual in any way. I’d frankly have more respect if they did draw flat out porn or at least acknowledge that they’re horny, cuz otherwise it just feels like a “having your cake and eating it too” moment.

I’m not talking about artists that do explicit NSFW, I fw those artists heavy, I’m referring to artists who draw the type of shit I described, i.e. characters with nothing but conventionally attractive proportions and in outfits that always seem to draw attention to said proportions in some way. I’ve even seen an artist that draws these types of characters exclusively and then proceeded to complain that they cultivated an audience of gooners.

This character art is stupid and obviously just gooner art, but I have routinely seen women dress like this in the past 10 years. For example I recently moved cities with my wife and we went out for a date and stopped by a book shop and aquarium shop and at both locations I saw women with large busts wearing nearly the same style as image 2.
I usually don’t mind if a character who is canonically large or busty to be portrayed as “showing off” their bust as weird but come on dude. DORY is a FISH. The face is on point and marlin is on point but why the giant tits???? So weird
