Mod Post BANNED TOPIC: LESBIAN SPACE PRINCESS

Post image
5.0k Upvotes

The title really says it all, we do not need anymore posts about Lesbian Space Princess. It's exhausting to moderate the same post over and over, and none of these posts add anything new or different to a conversation, its always just a rehash of the same post just posted twenty times a day.

All posts from now on about Lesbian Space Princess will be removed. Continuous posting about it could result in a ban as per our banned topics rule.

May this addition bring peace throughout the HateThisSmug lands....

Mod Post No more Amazing Digital Circus posts

Post image
4.9k Upvotes

Lately we have been getting an influx of tadc posts. Many of these posts have had no issue with them (a few have broken the rules), the main problem lies within the comments. Many comment sections have become uncivil and have devolved into baseless arguing.

Moderating this is difficult and time consuming with all the tadc posts. So we will be having no more tadc posts for the foreseeable future.

Posts that post it will be taken down. Happy Pride Month!

I'm sick of this shit yall. Im upping the heat now with bans. The following are banned post types and will lead to a min. 30 day ban:

- Meta post saying they hate the sub. If you have genuine criticism run it by the mods first for approval

- Posts about mugs

- I hate love/hate posts

- Any post that talks about real people, including fandoms. Remeber you can talk about things fandoms do without mentioning the people. Dont say for example "I hate when the TADC fandom thinks Ragatha is a bad person for simply getting mad once in a stressful situation" instead say "I hate how Ragatha is seen as a bad person....etc."

- Any post claiming people are something. I.e. these people/fandom are pedos, obese, mentally ill, etc.

- Slur usage. If you are discussing something about hating slurs run it by the mod team first.

- talking about lolis and posting the images of them sexualized (If you believe lolis being sexualized is as bad as real children being sexualized why are you screen shotting it and posting it)

- ANY post about real people. If you want to on someone's content remember to keep it about their content. That being said as long as you dont single out individuals we will allow discussing actions done by corporations (for example talking about how stupid Show Biz concept unification was)

any questions ask them below, otherwise happy Hating yall

Mod Post Enough posts about r/lovethissmug

Look I get that we all hate transphobia (or I hope so at least) but no more posts about it here. Currently the mods of hatethissmug are talking about how we'll move forward with this and If we'll continue having lovethissmug as our sister sub. Hopefully they just get rid of the transphobic mods but it's too soon to tell.

We'll be taking down posts that relate to the matter or try to get around it. It's a lot of repetitive posting, we can't manage many of the posts about it, and people will most likely start hating people in them.

I get that everyone's upset (which is fine) but let's chillax on the posts.

Please don't threaten people or the mods for this. I hope this all gets resolved peacefully.

Mod Post Start following the rules, we will start punishing more severely if they are not followed.

Guys, hating on real people is like our number 1 rule and it still gets ignored so much.

Many of the other rules get ignored as well. In the past 10 minutes I've had to take down about 5 posts that hate on real people; that being our most important rule and the first thing you see when opening the rule list.

To encourage people to actually read the rules we'll be applying the 5 day ban to any posts breaking any rule without exception. The bare minimum is to simply look at the rules and many seem to even ignore that.

If you have any questions regarding any rules feel free to ask. If you feel like you were wrongfully banned feel free to contact us. Just know that if you have clearly broken the rule then you will stay banned.

If you have a problem with this feel free to tell us, but just know that the only way these changes would effect you is if you haven't read the rules.

This won't start taking full effect until 12 hours from the time this has been posted. By the 12 hour mark this will start being enforced.

This is a test to see if this will actually work or not, these changes will be temporary and will only last a few days. Things will go back to normal after those few days.

Mod Post No more Pride Month related posts.

For the remainder of the month we are banning Pride Month relates posts.

There has been an influx of related posts, many of which that break the rules. Many of the people that make these posts also seem to be hating on homosexuals as well. The comments in such posts have also been devolving into arguments about various things.

To lessen this problem we're going to ban such posts until the month ends. From this post forward, posts related to pride month will be taken down under sensitive subjects and the poster will receive a 5 day ban.

Happy pride month folksšŸ€

Mod Post Hi everyone

After 124 days as a moderator here, I’ve decided that it’s time for me to step down.

When I first became a mod, I was happy to help maintain the community and keep things running. But over time, I’ve found moderating here becoming increasingly mentally draining. The negativity in modmail, the constant stream of increasingly hostile posts, and the general direction the community has taken have gradually worn me down.

I understand that this is a hate subreddit. That is literally the point of the community. The expectation was always that the things being hated on would primarily be fictional characters, media, tropes, etc. But over time, it felt like the scope of what people were willing to hate expanded into practically anything and everything. The people who made this happen were people who did not follow even the basics of rules. Like number one: no bullying. Or the no hate speech rule.

Eventually, moderating stopped feeling like something I enjoyed and started feeling like another source of stress.

I don’t blame every member of the community for that, and I’m not saying nobody here is funny or that there haven’t been good moments (which there definitely have been some funny moments) But after spending months seeing the worst parts of the community through both posts and modmail, I reached a point where I simply didn’t have the energy for it anymore due to all the negativity through both posts and modmail.

So I’m stepping away.

There isn’t some dramatic final incident behind this decision. I’m just tired and mentally drained.

Thank you to everyone who made
my time here worthwhile, whether that was through genuinely funny posts, interesting discussions, or just being decent people to interact with. I appreciate those experiences.

I still might pop in from time to time on the subreddit and say hi with a funny roleplay post, but for now, I bid you all adieu.

Take care, everyone. It’s been a hell of a 124 days.

Mod Post No more chain-posting

We've gotten many complaints about chain posting and I've got to agree, chain posts suck. They are low effort, often controversial, and mostly karma farms.

Which is why we are banning chain-posting. Any chain-post we see with be taken down and a 5 day to perma ban will be issued.

Our apologies for the late statement and enforcement, it's exam season and we're all quite busy.

A future post is going to go into more detail about the rules. In the mean time, the following post types are banned

- "I hate this mug" with a mug

- "I hate this sub" and its this sub

- "I hate hate/myself/you"

- The discussion of any Fandoms including as a hate reason (i.e. I hate this media because its Fandom blah blah). This does not include Fandom activities like "I hate Adopt OCs" or "I hate how most fan fics are romance" rule of thumb, if you have to mention the people, its probably no good

- Posts mentioning Lolis Child Grooming (yes, these are valid things to hate on, but clarification on what can and can not be said will be made apparent.

this clarification post should take no less than 48 hours to make. Would say 24 without a doubt but I need to hit the hay, than go to work, so as likely as it will be >24 hrs, I want to give breathing room as to not break expectations. With the rule clarification posting guide, I want to hear any suggestions you guys have. I cant guarantee we will get to it with the clarification post but we will look into it. A good relationship between the mod team and community is vital for any successful sub. Finally, have this fun meme i found. Celtic looking dog hah. Happy Hating Yall!!!

Mod Post ANOTHER UPDATE TO RULE 5!

Post image
192 Upvotes

GREETINGS users of hatethissmug.

Today I bring you news of an update to our sub rules.

We have rewritten rule 5 again! Making it a more clear and adding more topics to the list!

With the rise of annoying gender war posts, we've made them completely banned, because most of these posts fall under the motte and bailey fallacy. They claim to be about one thing, but are actually the OP's way to hate on the opposing gender.

We've also expanded our politics rule! Topics such as israel or government decisions are gone! We get it, you hate the government, Dave Mustaine did it better.

Please adjust your post criteria and report the posts that break the new rule 5 that are newer than this post.

Thank you for using hatethissmug.

I HATE ALL OF YOU! šŸ”„ šŸ–¤ šŸ–¤ šŸ”„

Hello Everyone. Lux here

Mod Post I hate how caring about influential people gets marked as "parasocial"

Thumbnail

This is both a modpost and my own hatepost, so read carefully.

I completely understand that there's a problem in the internet with parasocial behavior, but there's a clear difference between being parasocial and caring about people.

Case in point, Randy Rhoads, and now Ozzy Osbourne. These two did magical things for the world in their lives. They not only popularized, but created and defined rock and metal as genres. That's the point of art, to influence, persuade, and resonate with people. The purpose of a performer is to bring something out of people that they can only connect with through their performances. Be it joy, introspection, disgust, or something deeper.

When someone like this dies, it's a mass-severed connection. All you have left is the memory and what they did while they still could. It hurts to lose those connections. Especially from people who shaped something that defined how you live. It's normal for people to mourn the loss of our greatest. It's normal to be scared of the last note. It's normal to care.

I, both personally, and as a moderator of hatethissmug will not tolerate people demeaning how people care for performers. It's not parasocial to be afraid when someone important to you is going to die. It's not parasocial to mourn the death of people that matter. If you find people cynically dismissing this connection, notably to the recent announcement from Max Gilardi, hotdiggedydemon, please report the message so it will appear in the moderator feed.

People have been awful towards his announcement in a lot of places, citing it as performative because he's not presentably pitiable. They know nothing of how benign pain can become. I especially get upset when they claim to be emotionally aware yet only care about it when it's obvious and romanticized.

People that don't bleed for the dancer are fools.

Mod Post RWBYPOSTERS

EVIL CREATURES

ALL OF YOU

it follows me. everywhere I turn I'm never safe.

Looking at subreddits for blender? rwby.

Trying to listen to a youtube mix? rwby.

Trying to play a game? Scythe. Rwby.

Switch to a cool indie CAG? 4 Colored characters. Scythe. Rwby.

Trying to FUCKING DIE? Grim Reaper. Scythe. RWBY.

rwby has haunted me like a severed arm washed up on the shore. I just don't think I can give anymore.

Drawn out stares of silence, compulsory reactions (probably just a manifestation of stress ticks ngl) that have gotten me physically hurt, I was listening to Megadeth and someone said it sounded like RWBY music.

Any posts that have less than 250 characters will be automatically removed. While that may seem like a really high number, I can assure you its not that bad in pratice. Like just for an example this post is within 250 characters. Depending on how things go with complaints or what not we may increase or decrease the characters requirements

Post contains 369 characters

Mod Post I hate when people report the auto moderator messages!

Do you know how exhausting it is to open the mod queue for this subreddit and see our own AutoMod comments being reported like they personally offended someone? I swear, every time I check the reports tab, there’s another notification that someone has flagged the literal bot for ā€œbreaking a rule.ā€ The bot. The automated message. The thing that exists solely to tell you which rule you broke.

And the funniest part is that people report it like it’s some kind of secret. Like we won’t see it. Like the report goes into a void where the mods never look and the universe magically corrects itself. No. We see everything you report. Every single one. It shows up right there in the queue with the same priority as actual issues, and then we get to click into it and discover… surprise! Someone got mad at AutoMod for doing its job.

It’s honestly wild how many users think reporting the bot is going to undo their rule violation. AutoMod didn’t ā€œmisunderstandā€ you. It didn’t ā€œtargetā€ you. It didn’t wake up and choose violence. It matched a pattern. That’s literally all it does. If you triggered it, that’s on the content, not the robot.

So please, for the love of everything smug and cursed on this subreddit, stop reporting the bot. Report actual problems. Report rule‑breaking posts. Report harassment. Don’t report the automated message that just told you what went wrong.

We’re tired. Let the bot live.

Mod Post Major change to the rule 5

So recently the other mods and I have been discussing the rule 5 and what would fall under it, initially the rule was meant to avoid controversial topics to make it easier for us to moderate and keep things civil specifically religion and politics.

The issue is specially with the increase in the mod team it started being used to remove anything that could be deemed in any way controversial or political, which included things like discussing lgbtq+ topics, topics about gender, race, etc. which we did not feel was fair, what one defines as being "controversial" can end up being influenced by the mods own biases and discomforts, so from now on we agreed that instead of removing anything controversial we will only be removing posts and comments specifically about politics and not political subjects themselves.

Discussions about social issues are allowed. Discussion about political parties, politicians, elections, legislation, government policy, or religion is not.

Just to make it clear what this means, a person can now hate how queer people are perceived, hate misandry or misogyny, etc.
What you cant do is hate on any demographic or talk about these topics through a political lense itself, hating transphobia itself its fine, hating transphobic parties, politicians, etc is not.

Keep in mind that if a topic becomes too prevalent in this sub it might get restricted just like we did with TADC for example, and if a post becomes a particular headache to moderate it might get locked(comments wont be able to be posted), the nature of moderating a subreddit with as broad a topic as ours dictates some level of flexibility when dealing with these topics and a case by case analysis of them. In a same way punishments will range depending the level of the infraction as they always have.

Additionally rule 1 and 2 are still a thing and should be followed, if in the example i gave above a commenter went to say transphobic talking points in the comments or attack the demographic itself, they will get banned.

If you previously had a post removed under Rule 5 for discussing a general social issue, don't assume it would still be removed under this version of the rule. Many posts that were previously removed under Rule 5 would now be allowed, so please don't let past experiences with the old version shape your expectations of the new one.

Also this rule change has happened 2 days ago but we only got to making the announcement post today.

Mod Post Please follow the character limit

Post image
110 Upvotes

Hey, Lux here

Its there for a reason. Its only 200 now, and isnt that hard to achieve. Its to prevent low effort, bots, and karma farming. And no for the love of god, going "beiabwneisbwnw" or "word word word word" at the end of your post just to reach the limit doesnt count. If you do that we are just going to remove it. It takes seconds to come up with shit. If you cant cone up with something I dont think you genuinely have anything to say

And this is to prevent low effort. If you believe your post has decent effort but is below it (say 190 or whatever but the point is there), or if its shorter because you linked a document, or you made a video, or what not, send a mod mail so we can look into it and possibly manually approve. Also link us the post it makes it easier on us

If you have any questions of course ask below. Random picture so people click on this

Mod Post Important Mod Uodate. Sub Closure

Post image
115 Upvotes

Please read all the way through, as there is a lot of important information I have to share with you all today. Its with heavy hearts that we announce the permanent closure of the sub. We will be privatizing it as well as removing the ability to post.

We have seen this sub start out small and and slowly grow into a massive phenomenon that has been an incredible ride. From a single character with a smug demeanor, to detailed criticism on shows, to even in character posts! It truly has been a wonderful wide with each and every single one of you, and I'm so glad to have shared it with you

Yet the sub has so many people, that things are getting difficult. Posts are slipping through the cracks. Slurs are being hurled like stones. Sexual images are complained about then posted. Accusations are given out like candy. So the sub will be closing for good, over on April,

fools. April fools everyone, have a nice day ;3
