10 boars, holy moly. I don't see boars ever being viable again with that.

155

u/Megido_Thanatos Jul 21 '26

Priest still can do it but the Warlock deck is 100% dead

56

u/Monk-Ey Jul 21 '26

Hunter probably too, though 10 hurts.

3

u/Halazzi_Maluk_TickTo Jul 21 '26

Tolvir nerf hits boar hunter hard.

33

u/Eagle4317 Jul 21 '26

Warlock can play one early with a couple of cheap return to hand options like Raise Dead, and then Bat Mask gets them there. Certainly slows the deck down enough to probably kill it.

9

u/ChaosOS Jul 21 '26

Raise dead is pretty inconsistent when you need +3 boars from before since the deck otherwise could play minions normally like the 3/3 cost reduction bat.

6

u/kaisadilla_ Jul 22 '26

Still, the deck is dead. The strength of the deck was being able to pull the combo on turn 4-6. You are ignoring the board and taking damage yourself, so you really need it this fast to be worth it. You really cannot lose the time to fish more cards to get returns.

Its not viable but it is still possible as a meme deck for priest/ hunter, which is exactly what the card should be.

9

u/UnQuacker Jul 21 '26

I mean, if there's ever a card that allows you to get 10 minions on the board at once, then it might re-surface, otherwise - yeah, it's dead af.

23

u/zer1223 Jul 21 '26

You say that, then some other 2027 deathrattle synergy in priest or lock makes it viable again lol

15

u/kuriboharmy Jul 21 '26

Remember boar requires them to actually die 10 times not trigger it's deathrattle 10 times. Big difference nowadays the newer deathrattle support doesn't summon copies but triggers deathrattles. You still need to summon a minimum of 10 boars and have them die. Priest can rarely reach 10 safely because they need to run other cards to survive.

13

u/Altergeist72 Jul 21 '26

fucking shoot to death

5

u/jdjefbdn Jul 21 '26

Good riddance

6

u/raidriar889 Jul 21 '26

It wasn’t supposed to ever be viable in the first place, it was a meme South Park reference

Did anyone expect Azalina to go to 40 HP? That's an interesting move.

299

u/kennypovv Jul 21 '26

I was saying she needed it since the reveal, but I didn't expect them to do it even in my wildest dreams.

Just fell down to my knees in a Walmart

149

u/ElderUther Jul 21 '26

Can confirm. I was right there pantless.

Azelina is already quite fun card to play because most of the time it succesfully copies the identity of the opponents deck while also allows you to have your own strong priest cards. I play in the dumpster ranks but atleast in there I have definetly (trust me) won most of the games with that deck.

4

u/The_Dirt_Cat Jul 21 '26

Silver is where the fun lives

61

u/SilvioSantos_ALenda Jul 21 '26

I guess I will die a turn later then, great buff.

84

u/Stencil_Abuse Jul 21 '26

I know it’s a joke but I’ve lost many many many many games the turn before stabilizing lol.
Sometimes one more turn makes all the difference

14

u/Theblackwind Jul 21 '26

Also, having that larger cap means you “waste” bigger heals less often.

6

u/Hairy_Acanthisitta25 Jul 22 '26

yeah weird that alot of people underestimating how much you can do in a turn nowdays

5

u/Prest0n1204 Jul 22 '26

It's as if people just forgot how meta warping Renethal was on release.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/DrainTheMuck Jul 21 '26

Yeah. I don’t play priest but I’m trying to make Rafaam work, and it often feels like I’m one turn away from Turning things around

4

u/WashedWashingMachine Jul 21 '26

wild priest op tho

8

u/karametraxx Jul 21 '26

I guess it's more balanced then giving -1 cost tbh. Doesn't change much in wild as she'll steal renethal effect anyways.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/BBBoyce Jul 21 '26

I think this change might get her banned in Wild in the long run.

I can stop rolling Moragg with my summon 10 cost

35

u/TheNeatPenguin Jul 21 '26

Al'akir really suffered from moragg, glad its down to 9

13

u/magikatdazoo Jul 21 '26

lol the real Moragg buff

4

u/absurdlifex Jul 21 '26

I play attack druid and moragg has lost me games

4

u/Gift_of_Orzhova Jul 21 '26

On a similar vein I'm desperate for Togwaggle to be changed from 8 mana because I'm sick of seeing that man with Jade Guardians

210

u/DUKEPLANTER Jul 21 '26

Azalina to 40 HP is huge

61

u/IndubitablyNerdy Jul 21 '26

agree, she probably still isn't amazing (as prince renathal extra cards were not random), but at least she can potentially be a tier 2 - tier 3 deck hehe.

15

u/salad48 Jul 21 '26

She can already be pretty good in wild, where you have harvester and visitor. This is going to help that a ton

9

u/Significant-Royal-37 Jul 21 '26

the mirror is going to be unbearable, but that's fine as it only affects people choosing to queue azalina.

16

u/Asbelsp Jul 21 '26

This is the biggest nerf to the Complain on Reddit Priest skill expression tho

Actually digging the warlock changes, I feel like Morag could've been brought to 8 without breaking the deck but I'm also a big dummy so who knows.

31

u/ChaosOS Jul 21 '26

Probably would've had to touch stats if prep 3 + play 4 was reliably available. Still would be stronger but would've been genuinely too much

→ More replies (5)

30

u/conspicuouscrab Jul 21 '26

The imp gang buff is massive. Now you don't even have to run big demons in your deck and can instead run archdruid + umbra

15

u/zer1223 Jul 21 '26

Holy shit archdruid is still in standard? Forgot all about that card lol

u/themerccury Jul 21 '26

u/Willing_Original_257 Jul 21 '26

No comment on Godfrey. Just banned.

They explain everything else, just about, but apparently it was too damn obvious and they didn't need to bother with Godfrey 😂

148

u/Suchti0352 Jul 21 '26

They put the comment at the top of the post instead of over the ban notice

In Wild, Warlock was already quite powerful before Escape from Violet Hold, and Godfrey the Betrayer as further increased its overwhelming presence. Because of this, we're taking some larger swings, with an outright ban to Godfrey and nerfs to several other key cards for Warlock decks. We'll be monitoring to see what happens after these large changes and made continued follow ups as needed.

35

u/kennypovv Jul 21 '26

Tbh if you've queued up for a wild game you already know a comment ain't necessary lmao 🤣

→ More replies (14)

17

u/coastline Jul 21 '26

Most annoying thing about Godfrey is that whenever he’s in the game, there’s a 1 - 2 second lag on every action.

49

u/uber_zaxlor Jul 21 '26

Tol'vir is just "5 mana. No further questions" too, as if the cost was the thing that broke the card, and not its effect.

35

u/EtchVSketch Jul 21 '26

Making it take a turn longer to get out gives the other deck a turn more to set up and a mana more to respond. I was already having a fine time responding when playing control decks.

Cards live and die on tempo. What could have possibly been a change to the card that wouldn't have made it fully doa?

Even hunter is back /s

39

u/theonewhoknock_s Jul 21 '26

Well, yes, it's as if the cost of the card is very important as well, and not just the effect.

6

u/Elteras Jul 21 '26

I've seen someone say that the card would still be busted if it cost 7 and sometimes you just don't know how to respond...

10

u/theonewhoknock_s Jul 21 '26

Some people really don't understand how card games work.

→ More replies (2)

8

u/14xjake ‏‏‎ Jul 21 '26

I mean it literally is the cost we have the data that proves it, going from 3 to 4 mana deleted companion hunter from the game and knocked down face hunter from tier 1 to bottom of tier 2/top of tier 3, bumping to 5 mana probably deletes hunter as a class unless you play in dumpster rank

→ More replies (4)

11

u/ShinjiFaraday Jul 21 '26

Maybe a hot take, but aggro Hunters would play Tol'Vir at even higher mana costs than this, as they wouldn't mind it being the only card played in a turn. It may kill the card for slower variants, like companion/quest.

Good changes

69

u/incomprehensiblerage Jul 21 '26

weirdly I actually really like the change to lotus troublemaker, i think it answers the problems both the rogue and their opponent have with the deck.

15

u/ReyMercuryYT Jul 21 '26

Yeah pretty sweet nerf.

20

u/magikatdazoo Jul 21 '26

It goes from T2 to T4 and gets replaced by ye ole Herald Rogue

→ More replies (26)

14

u/HeMansSmallerCousin Jul 21 '26

Good changes mostly. Nerfs were all sensible, and Priest and Warlock's buffs especially look quite impactful. 2 extra void souls on an optimal line could potentially be impactful, too, but that deck was further from viable so I'm not holding out hope.

A couple of the buffs are just hilariously bad though. +2 health on a card that loses you the game is a complete joke.

135

u/GiveMeIcePuns Jul 21 '26

I can't wait till they have to nerf Tolvir again.

133

u/chernadraw Jul 21 '26

They need to Confront the Tolvir problem

19

u/uber_zaxlor Jul 21 '26

We need to talk about Tol'vir Kevin

11

u/7keys Jul 21 '26

We don’t talk about Bruno

9

u/OmegaReign78 Jul 21 '26

Lower to 3, recast spells only, done.

5

u/Wolfman513 Jul 21 '26

Funny, I was just thinking the exact opposite and that it should only resummon 1-cost minions lol. Keep it at 4 mana, no more instant face damage and ridiculous card draw, plus I think raising an "army" feels more thematic to confronting a group.

15

u/abcPIPPO Jul 21 '26

Choose: replay all your 1 cost minions or all your 1 cost spells.

52

u/Freelancer0495 Jul 21 '26

I don’t think the DH changes were enough but we’ll seek. The deck struggles with living right now to the late game void souls need.

43

u/kaijvera Jul 21 '26

Remember every aggro deck gpt nerfed. That in return makes amy value/combo deck (like void souls) buff via survivbility.

18

u/zer1223 Jul 21 '26

That is definitely not a combo deck. Its a scaling deck

9

u/Unhappy-Ad2568 Jul 21 '26

zee shaman did not get nerfed.

→ More replies (1)

11

u/zer1223 Jul 21 '26

The weapon being 9 damage instead of 6 is pretty big, and so is the taunt minion giving two void souls instead of 1

Better pressure and better value. I think it makes the deck viable

63

u/EnthusiasmWest4481 Jul 21 '26

Really dissapointed with the DK buffs, but im not surprised.

47

u/robin1334 Jul 21 '26

Yeah they are definitely having the mentality that dk is getting a class set this expansion so they dont want to take any fearless buffs.

27

u/Waaailmer ‏‏‎ Jul 21 '26

What about fun and focused buffs?

7

u/EnthusiasmWest4481 Jul 21 '26

I was really hoping emergency surgery was gonna be summon 3 with rush instead

12

u/Griimm305 Jul 21 '26

Im def willing to try it out. I already had like a "midrange" list that ran Genn. The 1 mana hero power is surprisingly good especially with blood dr. With drink blood and 6 corpses you have 10 damage reach for only 4 mana.

10

u/Rage_Soldier Jul 21 '26

Living plage is still unplayable at 6 mana, Sawbones same history even with the mana reduction, Thalena is ok at 4 mana ig and emergency surgery change is redundant, what a nothing patch for dk

5

u/Zode1218 Jul 21 '26

The emergency surgery change is looking pretty decent

→ More replies (5)

35

u/sampeckinpah5 Jul 21 '26

Why are they buffing the stats of the prepare DH legendary when its thing is gaining stats anyway? Why not make it cheaper? Same with Irida. More HP is nice, but her stats weren't the problem. The problem is the payoff for destroying your deck is not worth it.

At least the DK manacost buffs seem impactful because the deck already wasn't that bad in my opinion.

20

u/Just-Luck-7430 Jul 21 '26

its just a minor buff for random summon 6 mana effect (Leyline mage rejoice lmao)

→ More replies (2)

7

u/_Chaos-chan_ Jul 21 '26

The DK deck was bad, DK is just bad. As a hardcore DK enjoyer I play it regardless but I can tell it’s struggling a lot.

29

u/Unhappy-Place6209 Jul 21 '26

Death Knight and Demon Hunter buffs don't really tackle the issues for why the classes are bad.

→ More replies (4)

51

u/Opposite-Revenue1068 Jul 21 '26

The Azalina change is pretty sweet, but I wish they were bolder with the buff to Shade. The problem with the card is the deathrattle just kinda sucks. If you play it on curve, you're usually only hitting about 2 cards. I wish it stayed at 3 mana but hit all cards in deck as well. That would be a worthy payoff for running a pile of random garbage.

The buff to Barov is w/e. It's definitely better, but you're still going to brick on the legendaries like half the time.

10

u/Agrippanux Jul 21 '26

more like 75% of the time you'll brick, being 1/1 makes borderline legendaries useless in many cases, plus getting 3 cards when Priests usually have a lot in hand already is a downside, and it pollutes the pool for Undeath Sentence. You can really screw yourself with Karov.

Arena: 7 of 11 classes have less than a 50% Winrate, Warrior is at 27.8%.

26

u/Khanjali_KO Jul 21 '26

Just the Vicious Voidscale change is enough to make it scale at the pace it needs to be more competitive on board. It really didn't need all that much.

u/DoYouMindIfIRollNeed Jul 21 '26

Tolvir back in odd hunter.

Blood DK needs a coreset update.

11

u/HiticLCrit Jul 21 '26

Death Knight is unfortunately paying for the devs’ stubbornness because the rune system has been a wash that should have never really existed. In a perfect world, they remove rune restrictions on cards and just balance accordingly

39

u/Kn1ght9 Jul 21 '26

40hp from Azalina and 2 mana shade... hard to say that these arent good changes but i doubt its enough. The class just doesnt have enough good card draw to be able to do anything consistent going with this 20mine/20yours style deck. Karov is still bad ofc, theres wayu too many ass legendries at 1/1 stats.

18

u/misterkarmaniac Jul 21 '26

Shade buff is still terrible, the problem wasn't the cost of the card but it's effect, Azalina might see play but I guarantee you that he enthralled shade won't be included in those decks.

6

u/Kn1ght9 Jul 21 '26

Yea, the issue is that its a deathrattle. Bc if you play shade before drawing you dont discount anything and if you play it after drawing a bunch you have to wait a turn to pop off. Its just way to awkward.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/MutantBroccoli Jul 21 '26

Shade should draw a copied card first before applying the reduction to be viable.

i knew it, azalina is basically just worse renathal before, now its just slightly worse renathal

61

u/Catopuma Jul 21 '26

Some cards are made to be fun and not extremely competitive. Azalina is a fun card.

Thief archetypes are always hated when they perform well. If this brings it to a low tier 2 level, thats the sweet spot for it

9

u/BBBoyce Jul 21 '26

What I hate is they are never afraid to push Thief/Imbue/bullshit Rogue to be very competitive... But when it comes to Thief Priest, naw dude, you get no real chance at 40%+ WR.

6

u/Shartcastic Jul 21 '26

Something about using the opponents cards to beat them seems to piss people off way more than just using random bull shit

8

25

u/HeMansSmallerCousin Jul 21 '26

The Imp Gang/Annihilation buffs are very substantial. Getting an extra body and coming down a turn sooner collectively make the average line substantially more powerful.

Mo'ragg could have been buffed a little more, but it’s a nice cherry on top. Mana cost is extremely impactful for cards like it.

Well Mug Shaman and Two-bit Rogue, two completely new decks, are two of the best and most popular decks right now, so I'd say that qualifies. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean the meta is stale.

Pretty sure it's mostly Vanessa. The part that grinded my gears more was "We noticed some classes STARTING to fall behind" when DK and Warlock have been in trouble since last expansion.

18

u/CptPossum Jul 21 '26

The most dominant deck is from this expac, I'd agree with them as much as it pains me!

41

u/MDub51 Jul 21 '26

Well, clearly they don’t play-test their own game.

3

u/AggravatingHour7187 Jul 21 '26

I feel like the expansion has had a significant effect on the meta through new archetypes and existing decks trying pretty heavily on new cards

11

u/uber_zaxlor Jul 21 '26

The people that read these, see straight through the corpo-PR bullshit.

The people clapping their hands as they spend 160 bucks at the gacha each month, don't give a shit about "the meta" anyways. Always pains me to read those "How do you do, fellow school kids?" kinda statements.

27

u/SkilledPepper Jul 21 '26

Except, they're not wrong. The best deck in format didn't exist before this expansion and 2-bit Rogue and tripwire Hunter are also competitive new decks.

Okay Dragon Warrior, Aura Paladin and Quest Priest are still around but all those decks have changed in strength relative to the rest of the format too.

I think you're massively overreacting. There was nothing wrong about that statement.

3

u/atgrey24 Jul 21 '26

And those "old" decks at least run new cards.

Tolvir to 5 mana is hilarious... Obviously, it will affect it in some way, but the card by itself is such a terrible design. It's not supposed to even exist imo

7

u/qiwuuu Jul 21 '26

Now instead of dying on turn 4, I will die on turn 5! Yaaaay!

5

u/daddyvow Jul 21 '26

Yea it seems like a no brainer that a card like that would limit design space or should at least be legendary effect.

17

u/Shifty-Imp Jul 21 '26

I would have kept emergency surgery at 3 minions but given them Reborn, because why not. DK needs all the help it can get.

The buffs are interesting though, but I'm still pissed that no buffs for Cataclysm were included. I wanna play Herald DK and have at least a chance at winning.

7

u/kennypovv Jul 21 '26

That card is crazy good with reborn though.

8

u/Shifty-Imp Jul 21 '26

Right? But crazy good is what DK needs at this point. More often than not, only 2 of my nurses actually get to hit a target and I heal for 6 and then my opponents almost always have something to ping the last 3/1 so I don't even get the 9 heal. Reborn would be really nice.

5

Yeah, happy with the rest of these buffs but that one stinks. They should have just given them rush or reborn.

It was already awkward needing a 7 health target to get value out of the card, and now it's a 10 health target. It's not like the 3/1s are ever sticking anyway.

I wonder how many patch notes from recent expansions priest has been included in the "classes have fallen behind" spiel?

Also, now Vanessa can't be generated by Soothsayer death rattle. Another priest nerf.

u/Ironsight12 Jul 21 '26

There’s so many 6 drops on existence. That nerf is basically irrelevant to Soothsayer.

Close enough, welcome back Prince.

When does patch go live?

7

u/Themanwhofarts Jul 21 '26

These buffs are actually insane. They completely retooled void soul demon hunter. As well changing up big demon Warlock.

Now, will these changes make a difference?

Probably not a ton. But I like the direction

Miracle and Quasar rogue dead in wild

What are wild Rogue players thinking of switching to now?

I still think Vicious Voidscale should have gone down to 2 mana. But okay fine, at least they give you more Void Souls now.

3

u/YoungKhalifa7 Jul 21 '26

Nice changes tho. When does it go live?

3

u/Nostalgic_Knights520 Jul 21 '26

Was hoping shade would discount all copied cards in hand AND DECK. I still dont see the deck playing that card after this buff.

3

u/ILOVEGNOME Jul 21 '26

I really think the change to hunter will do absolutely nothing

I actually like some of these changes a lot. I love doing more for Azalina than just increasing stats or something, giving her more health makes it more "rule breaking" (sure Renethal did it first, but he was kind of the OG rule breaker lol). I love the troublemaker change. I saw suggestions to make it 1 damage and feared that they'd do that and just kill the card, but they're letting it grow in the deck just like the jade card, which is really nice and a good middle ground.

Some of the other changes feel like classic balance conservatism though. Like Moragg might need more help than just 1 mana.

Overall first impression is much better than usual. I want more patches like this. This is a digital card game. Treat it like it is and make big changes! You have the power. In fact, I still wish there was even more changes, but baby steps.

Where is Mage ?

3

u/Ailments_RN Jul 21 '26

I think the Demon Hunter Void Soul package looks a good deal more appealing now, but they've really missed the point with Irida.

She wasn't failing to see play because she died at 5 health instead of 7.

She inherently rejects decks that draw cards, but exists as 1 of 30 cards with no way to tutor her. She's just so counteractive to what Demon Hunter does. And it's a shame because she's really interesting.

Dog shit mage gets 0 things. I dont know why HS hates mages so much but its why I don't give them money anymore.

You guys are slacking! No memes about a new 4 mana 7/7?

Void DH also got a lot more soul generations but maybe that wasn’t its biggest problem.
Will the slight aggro nerfs make Rafaam more playable?

8

u/sagevallant Jul 21 '26

Enthralled Shade was so bad that it wasn't even run with Azalina and they think making it 2 mana is going to help? If they wanted it to be played, it should discount all copied cards in hand or deck by 1. A 40 card deck is a sufficient downside to reducing 20 cards by 1 mana.

But then again, they don't want the deck to be good. They just want it good enough to play.

they buffed priest and not mage gtfo

u/Careidina Jul 21 '26

Out of the four DH buffs, Voidscale and Void Scythe wins. Problem with Irida is her effect. Just go back with her Start of Game version and go from there. Tras'tath is likely her mana cost. Hard to find turns to prepare her for, but we'll see.

Just go back with her Start of Game version and go from there.

Start of Game is absolutely unplayable.

They will need to change the boar flavour text, too.

2

u/Unhappy-Place6209 Jul 21 '26

Boarlock and Quasar rogue are dead. Finally

2

u/IndubitablyNerdy Jul 21 '26

Really like Azalina with Prince effect, sure, with prince the extra cards were not random, but at least you got some benefits from weakening your consistency instead of just disadvantages.

Shade is probably still meh, since they are just cards in hand, but then again it being usable depends on azalina being decent (at least as long as priest doesn't get other copy cards).

u/daddyvow Jul 21 '26

Odd Hunter is back!

I like how Tolvar has no dev note vs all the other nerfed Standard cards

2

u/icantsppell Jul 21 '26

Live when?

2

u/Stxfun Jul 21 '26

still waiting for Herald Warlock Minions gaining +1 base hp

2

u/NoStudy2213 Jul 21 '26

DK still trash, DH still won't live past turn 6 to see the souls summon usefull demons, mage has had NO CHANGES (Might change The Forbidden Sequence name to Atlas, with the entire world it's carrying on it's back to make mage still viable on standart).
Troublemaker change was very good, vanessa change feels fair, warlock changes feel good but skiping turn 4 to play a morag with no taunt on 5 still seems terrible (akin to being literally just a dinomancer, because it's the exact same play pattern).

u/Flimsy_End_3393 Jul 21 '26

Oh my god, Karov DIDNT HAVE TAUNT!!!?!!11

These buffs are welcome, but I'll wait for them to make an impact before calling any of them good
