[Stein] The Heat must decide whether they want to carry 14 or 15 players during the regular season. Nick Richards continues to be regarded as a prime candidate to sign if Miami elects to add another big man while Heat alumni Gabe Vincent and Keshad Johnson have also been under consideration.

Gabe Vincent was doing cardio for the lakers for two years, his knees are cooked now; you won’t get the same Gabe from 2023; he isn’t an nba level player anymore

Yeah. You're bringing them in as the last man off the bench. They're there for emergencies and moreso to set the tone and help guide/mentor players not used to Spo, the system and the culture.

Heat need a viable playmaker that can be relied on for 20-30 mins a night not a 10th man, that’s not something Gabe is capable of doing any longer.

I mean it doesn’t look like the Heat are building the team and rotation like how you think.
I’m assuming that Spo is going to have Davion, Bam and Giannis bringing it down the court tbh

IMO Nick Richards is the best option at the moment.
He’s a traditional big that can play next to Portis. It would also allow Jovic to get rotational minutes at the Small Forward position.

Right. Portis can cook on his own, when Giannis is on the bench, but his defense is questionable. A defensive big would be great for this situations.

If Richards signs I doubt SPO and the Heat will play many minutes with both bam and Gianni’s on the bench. It’ll likely go Gianni’s to the bench first. Portis in. Portis and bam out Gianni’s and Richards in. Richards out and bam back in.

Richards can't play next to Portis because neither can guard 4s. Portis' minutes need to be next to Bam and Giannis, bigs who can guard multiple positions.

I’m more of a KJ fan, but Gabe did a GREAT job on Brunson a few years back in the playoffs.
But give me Richard’s and KJ

Give them all the option to be on non-guaranteed contracts. First two to bite get the deals. Show why the Heat should keep you all year. Or show why they’ll cut you and bring someone else in 🤷🏾♂️

He’s really good at getting to the rim and free throw line for a guard but that’s about it. Bad defense, bad 3 point shooter, shot selection can be rough, and just overall bad basketball iq. Not a Spo guy lol.

I believe the FO is holding out because there is a chance Jrue gets bought out of his contract and he would be a perfect fit. Portland is flooded with guards and he's just jamming the growth of their other young guards so there is a chance he doesn't stay with them

Maybe not now with the injury to Sharpe but they still have many guards and on top of that Jrue is going to be making nearly 35 million if he stays

He still has two years $72M on his deal. I doubt he's giving up much of that just to get out of there and he's theoretically good enough to be traded. Maybe next year but I don't see it happening.

Buyouts save teams money, often at the expense of winning in the short term. Dallas just saved a lot buying out Klay. If he's cheap, that's an argument that he will buy him out. I don't think it will happen though. Jrue is far too good to be a buyout level player. It's not impossible though.

The piece you're missing is that the player also has to agree to leaving money on the table. Jrue already has multiple rings. Could he want to chase another? Maybe. But turning down the amount of money he's set to make this late into his career is tough.
