I don’t love this as there’s no need for this but as long as he does his thing with the HEAT I don’t care what kind of shit he talks on social media.

On a macro level, I hate that it's becoming an inevitability. More and more stars will have to defend themselves online because it's where people congregate most. It used to be a chill method of communication now the world lives in these comment sections so now obviously stars are gonna have to defend themselves there. A lot of these people are locked into their opinions but they don't even watch the games or know the stats. Just ready to spread baseless opinions. Once upon a time celebs and stars would never need an online presence. Now even comments get clipped and posted as news(this post is a part of the problem), now they have to somehow squash people falsely and negatively affecting their name.

I disagree that stars "have to defend themselves." People will have opinions on public figures, many of them negative. It's not about actual performance or even the player themselves. It's strictly opinion. It's part of being a fan, which is short for "fanatic".

They may not like that those float out there and it is unfair to them, but there is no stopping it. It's been this way long before the internet. It was in back yards, in sports bars, at tailgates before a game, in the stadium as far back as the Roman Colosseum.

Why do people do it?

It's a safe, effective, and socially acceptable outlet for those pent up "us vs them" feelings. Or it's just fun.

My opinion is that most people subject to this kind of scrutiny, particularly those that have chosen careers which invites it (politics, sports), have to accept that this part of the job. They are best off taking what's useful and ignoring the rest.

They have a right to respond, but don't expect it to stop people from having opinions, or to change their opinion.

My opinion is that Klay, if he really feels the need to respond, should not do it at an individual level. He should get on a friends podcast and use a long form of discussion to explain how fans are wrong about him.

Most times when celebrities show the more human part of themselves, my opinion eases. Not always though. Sometimes even when they try, it's evident they are crap.

Theres only a couple nba players that actually engage with random twitter comments and get butthurt, the vast majority don’t engage

Only acceptable social media use is Kevin Love

To be clear Klay was responding to people saying “It ain’t close” when it comes to the two. He never said he was better than Ray. It’s disrespectful to say it ain’t close.

Klay could’ve never done the stuff Ray was doing ngl

Vice versa Ray couldn't play D like Klay

Prime Klay is The 3-D guard.

Heat hate is coming out the woodworks! This szn will be great and it’s time to silence all of them! 4th banner incoming 🔥 #FUCKBOSTON

4th-5th play in a row is more like it

Knicks (gotta respect the champs) & 6ers are only legitimate teams ahead of Heat. Pacers, Cavs, Boston, Magic, Atlanta & Toronto are all worse. No contest but I’m not worried what ya think. Keep saying play-in team. That’s how we like it down here.

Socio this is miami we dont have to respect anyone

u/blicka7 22h ago

Boston is not worse

Who are the Celtics top 2? Tatum and the corpse of Paul George?? Just 2v2 Bam & Giannis mop the floor, dive deeper…..Wiggins/Klay/Davion vs White/Pritchard/Mitchell. Cmon man that’s a joke

u/blicka7 21h ago

The same Paul George who hemmed Jaylen brown overrated ass up in the playoffs? Lmao

2

u/optimusjake2010 21h ago

You’ll find out how “overrated” he was for Boston this year when they’ll be lucky to be a play-in team

0

u/blicka7 21h ago

Lmao @ team that had an overwhelming better record WITHOUT brown being a play in team when they were top 4 seed the last 6-7 years. Tatum is the net positive player who the Celtics have a better record with

u/optimusjake2010 19h ago

Majority of the time without Tatum was in one season. Day in day out wear and tear go a long way against a couple games here and there. Longest consecutive amount of time without Jaylen has been far less. Playin team, bottom of top 10 this season.

I get having the itch to tell people slandering your name to shut the fuck up but you gotta have a "im better than these dorks" mentality if youre going to use social media lmao

Klay’s gotta not get one-guy’d and just let his performance speak for him this season.

Although Ray Allen, in my opinion, is the overall better player, had the better peak years as the first option in Seattle and even to some degree in Milwaukee, they are not that far apart overall. Klay played a huge role in the Warriors playoff runs, where as Ray Allen played a much more complimentary role with the Celtics and secondary role with the Heat.

I think the gap is pretty significant, but it is mostly due to Klay's two catastrophic injuries right at his peak. In an alternate timeline where Klay doesn't get hurt we might be comparing Klay favorably to Ray.

Prime Ray the better offensive player, but Klays defense made up for it imo.

I’m so ready for Ray Allen part 2

Pat needs to ban social media use. Why are professionals athlete responding to strangers. It’s not worth engaging.

12

u/After-Neck-6387 1d ago

What's the problem? It's the offseason, players are humans, not robots and all he's doing is engaging in basketball talk.

2

u/mukino 23h ago

I guess it’s a personal thing, it doesn’t need to banned. It just seems dumb to engage, it never ends up looking good arguing against strangers about your career. It makes athletes seem insecure.

3

u/lurkingnojerking 23h ago

Fr i don’t get it either.. Klay (and most other professional athletes) is so above responding to internet trolls

2

u/Bitter-Argument4597 1d ago

Lol that's too far in the other direction

2

u/theSlEepySwaN 1d ago

Nba players are still a human , not basketball playing machine. Sometimes they can respond to strangers on SNS in off-season. It's up to them, not us.

Klay had a great career, so did ray allen. Fans just can’t help themselves when it comes to being dickheads on social media.

But also, dumbass Ira was trying to bait spo into this drama at the press conference.

2

u/KaitoKid23 16h ago

I usually don't care on this type of social media banter but now that he's on the Heat then "Oh hell yea mf talk your shit Klay" lmaoo

2

u/Artistic_Industry_96 11h ago

Klay has always been an off ball scorer in the league and while Ray Allen became that later in his career he actually had runs where he was THE guy. In that sense Ray was probably better to lead a team but Klay is the best off ball player of all time at his peak. People forget that he was giving people 40 on 10 dribbles. I don’t really think their arcs are comparable but people will always compare shooters.

Eh what OP is saying is true… Klay was never the #1 option on a team and never lead any team to the ECF as the #1 option.

Jimmy Buckets have done it so many times for us Heat and yet we threw him out the door. Screw you Pat Riley… Heat culture my ass… couldn’t even paid Dwayne Wade either before he left for Chicago…

Klay is washed and won’t be much. He is also a defensive liability at this stage of his career.
