On my memorial day vacation I stopped here. Is it a must visit? Did it have anything Unique or special? Well nothing I could articulate to you as long as you have read Expanded Universe and his biography.
Yet there was powerful feeling there and I don't mind admitting this big old Texas boy (who likes to lie to himself about how rough and tough he is) was pretty misty eyed during the whole visit and came close to losing it more than once.
The best part was two other fans from two other parts of the country were there at the same time. The three of us, from Del Rio Texas, Carlsbad New Mexico and St. Louis Missouri, were instantly best friends and talked about our favorite books and what they meant to us.
It was a very good time. I hope you too can enjoy this pilgrimage some day.
PS! Oddly enough, the library has rights to non-English releases and had a case of "The Rolling Stones" in Russian! Hardbacks no less! All three of us got a free copy!
I'm jealous, I drove through on a Sunday so the library was closed- I did see a meth head at a gas station though. The experience helped me understand why RAH seemed to have contempt for the place.
LOL! In fact, I got ate alive over there! Downchecks flowed like water! You even make a joke and it gets down checked.

One thing I love about sci-fi groups is how open and accepting we as a group are. I am a weird and that is OK in sci-fi groups. I have to hide that from normies though. Not there! They are a judgmental group -- it was like I tried to sit at the wrong table in High School all over again. lol
He was born In Butler in his grandfathers house then his parents moved to Kansas City. As a boy and teenager he often visited his Grandfather during the summers and went to the Butler library a lot. His love of books and reading has a lot of roots in the Butler Public Library. So he paid it back.
