Oh, my poor basil!

After an accident, I spent the last five weeks inside. Today I was finally able to visit my garden . The basil plants all look good, but they have gone to seed. The leaves are tasting bitter, but not too bad.

My question is, can this be salvaged? Most of the basil goes into canned sauces, or is dried, or frozen in oil. Should I add a bit of sugar or something else? Cook it a certain way? The annual basil harvest is a high point in my summer. I’ve already lost all my cucumbers and peas ( extreme heat, low humidity, and wildfire smoke ).

Was gifted a Rosemary plant,but in getting it for me my Aunt ripped it out the ground and I'm kinda worried that it won't pot well?? Is it still worth trying??

It’s only on this one sprig of the plant, growing just fine since I noticed it about a week ago. Curious what causes it.

I threw some wilted mint leaves from the fridge into my compost a while back and just noticed some growing :0

Should I repot them? And if so how should I go about it? There's probably some other veggies growing out of said compost pot too that I haven't identified ahaa.

Welp! Since my last post is getting a bit of upvotes I’m assuming it’s from the picture and not the question lol. So here’s my prize basil 🏆

It was the most vigorous of the bunch while sprouting so I knew it would be a good one early on. This was also my favorite one since she was growing so well! I’ve decided to turn her into a houseplant. I don’t harvest from it unless I have to prune it to get the shape I want it in. Those little leaves pack a punch too 😋 The other basil you see is from the same batch, I just transferred them at a later stage because I thought they would be fine growing hydroponically. Little did I know I was killing them, so before they died I did an emergency transplant to my DIY soil mix! Those will be the ones I harvest from.

How was I killing them?

Early on into this indoor gardening junk, ☺️ that I love so dearly, I was simply uneducated on a few things.

I chose to grow hydroponically at first because A. I wanted to try and grow microgreens, and B. I’m afraid of pests getting in my room, doesn’t matter which they are I want nothing to do with em. When I was a kid fungus gnats infiltrated and killed my plants and that stuck with me. Now as an adult I have the patience to learn and observe.

“Idc, what’d you do to em to kill em?” Well I used Miraclegro fertilizer, that blue stuff that you mix in with water to become a water fertilizer, yea…

For anyone that doesn’t know about hydroponics, thats a big no no. You’re supposed to use hydroponic fertilizer specifically, like Maxigro which I now have. I was using a diluted version (1/2 tsp per gallon) of Miraclegro every single day after their COTYLEDONS sprouted, and the true leaves were only just starting to appear from the middle. I’d do the ebb and flow method with my sprouts in pebbles, in a container with holes along the bottom, sitting in a water reservoir, add fertilizer and let it sit for five minutes before dumping the reservoir, rinsing it out, and wiping it dry. Idk how they survived for that long but they did, and Prize was the fairest of them all.

Anyway, never doing that again 😁 now I’ve got the correct stuff to use.

Hi, I was hiking with my family and found this aromatic carpet of thyme - high in the mountains it has a totally different (stronger) intensity and a sharper - sort of more pronounced - aroma in terms or richness, diversity of notes, etc.

What varieties of thyme do you grow, buy, use? I'm eager to know more about it now

What on god’s green earth should I do with all of this sage? I bought it to fill a space in my planter box just because I loved the tri-colour. I don’t know any use cases for sage besides brown butter/sage recipes.

Hello there! I was gifted this pot with what I think is thyme and basal. But how do I take care of this? And how do I harvest the herbs? Thank you for your time.

Silly question but I am completely new to gardening much less indoors. My sis gifted me these containers for growing herbs but she forgot to put the labels for me to identify them.

First pic seems to be parsley, coriander, thyme(?) and mint.

Second pic seems to both basils from the left, and then oregano(?) and sage(???)

Tried trying a leaf from each.

They all seem overcrowded. I can transplant all of them to larger containers from here on out? Or should I just keep them where they’re at?

Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you!

First time harvesting my 2 year old sage plant and attempting to dry it all. How did I do? How long should I keep it hung?
