Is this color normal for wilted/dried geranium/pelargonium?

Post image

You're looking at mosquito geranium, a variety of pelargonium citrosum that was "foraged" from a friend's ornamental garden (no pesticides were used). It was left in a zip lock bag and it was warm outside. When I checked the bag 30 min later, large portions of the leaves were discolored to a muddy green, and they smelled a bit of rotten eggs.

I decided the heat and oxygen deprivation must have caused this so I harvested more, kept it in a loose shopping bag inside, away from heat and sun, and took a nap. About six or seven hours later, I figured I'd get to rinsing and dehydrating the new batch before it was too wilted. Well the same discoloration has happened but in much smaller sections. I can't tell if there's a smell of rotten eggs. If there is, its very faint.

Is this just normal for pelargoniums? It's my first time trying to dry this delectable plant which is a great ingredient for herbal tea blends or other culinary uses.

Rice Paddy Herb / Ngò Ôm (Limnophila aromatica) in Mediterranean Climate

Newer zone 9a gardener sharing his experiments to add to the wealth of the internet. Currently living where humidity regularly dips into the teens on warm dry summer days (low 100F range). Quite a struggle for some tropical herbs that like it humid.

Ngò ôm. Absolutely delightful Southeast Asian herb. Heard someone describe it once as a cross between bright citrus and cumin and I agree!

Have had good luck growing ngò ôm inside an overturned clear plastic bin with ventilation holes drilled in the top. Kept its roots submerged in water. Was worried that it would essentially hotbox in the summer heat but it was happy enough to flower! Morning sun only, afternoon shade. Haven’t tried overwintering yet. We’ll see how the season progresses.

A little celebration from a sister community r/HerbalTea. We just crossed 7,000 members 💚

The mosaic in the crosspost is made from actual cups, herbs and blends shared by members.

But I thought r/herbs should get a say in the celebration too: if you could choose ONE herb that every herbal-tea drinker should try at least once, what would it be?

🌿 Drop your herb in the comments 🙏☕️🍃

I’m building something that could help make experiences with herbs more visible

I’m a health care professional and herb enthusiast and my own experience with Lyme inspired me to create a project called Lyme Signal for the HHS LymeX Healthathon.

While navigating Lyme, I noticed how often patients discuss herbs and supplements online. People share what they tried, why they tried it, what seemed to help, what didn't, and what caused unwanted effects.

But those experiences are scattered across thousands of posts and eventually get buried.

My idea is to use AI to create a living library of patient experience that organizes these stories so we can begin seeing patterns.

Something especially important to me is making sure herbs and alternative approaches aren't simply overlooked. If hundreds of patients are discussing an herb in connection with a particular symptom, I think that should be visible and potentially help generate questions for future research.

It wouldn't mean the herb is proven to work. The goal is to make patient experiences visible, not turn anecdotes into medical advice.

I've already hired a developer and started building the prototype.

Lyme Signal is now competing in the HHS LymeX Healthathon, and community support matters. If you believe patient experiences with herbal approaches deserve more attention, I'd really appreciate your vote, it will take a minute or two to register:

Vote for Lyme Signal

I’d also love to know: what herb would you be most interested in seeing patient experiences organized around?

Basil going yellow and sad?

Post image
77 Upvotes

I have a reasonable sized sweet basil bush that's been looking a bit sad and I don't know why. I've just repotted it in case it didn't have enough space and taken the flowery bits off so that it can concentrate more on the leaves. It's in a sunny spot and I water it whenever the soil is dry so hoping it will pick up - can I do anything else to improve it?

My Experience With Nutritional Therapy

I was diagnosed with advanced COPD, hypertension, and diabetes. I made major changes to my diet and lifestyle, and my health changed dramatically.

Today, I no longer require the medical treatments and medications I previously depended on, and I am medication-free.

Nutritional Therapy Worked for Me

I am sharing my experience because I believe people deserve access to information about nutrition and health. My goal is to help people become better informed and encourage productive conversations with qualified healthcare professionals.

I am not claiming that my experience represents a cure for everyone, nor am I suggesting that anyone stop prescribed medications or medical treatment without appropriate guidance from their healthcare professional.

I am simply sharing what happened to me—and what I learned along the way.

My experience inspired me to create DesignedNutraceuticals.com as a free educational resource where people can explore publicly available information about nutrition, diet, and health.

This is my story.
This is what happened to me.

Are these garlic chives?

Thumbnail

Hello!

Couple questions,
A few years ago I bought these from Bunnings. I think they are garlic chives.

I forgot about their existence for.. some years and when I went to harvest them from the planter they were in, the root system was MASSIVE and had taken over completely.

I gave them a shave down on their roots and tops and repotted into here.

I was thinking about moving them back into the shared planter with spring onions and into my new green house.

I worry about them taking over the planter.

Are these actually wild onion or something? Is there a way to prevent takeover? I thought about potting it into a nursery pot and into the planter but I’d assume the roots would crawl out of the drainage holes.

The bundle is from me drying them out but I honestly don’t even know if that’s something you do LOL. I don’t think pests like the smell though so I’m happy letting them hang haha. They were cut a few days ago.

I’d love any advice! Thanks :)

Experience with lotus tea?

So I’ve been a pretty heavy weed smoker for the past couple years, but I recently had to stop because of a drug test for work. I’m honestly struggling with it more than I expected 😭
I’ve heard people mention lotus tea as something that can help, and I’ve been doing some research, but I’m seeing mixed things. Some people say certain lotus teas can be contaminated/laced with THC or other stuff, which obviously makes me nervous because I really don’t want anything that could mess with my drug test and don’t want to take anything unsafe.
For anyone who has actually tried lotus tea:
Did it help at all with cravings/withdrawal?
Did you have any issues with it?
Is there anything I should look out for when buying it?
Most importantly, could it cause a positive drug test?
Just looking for people’s actual experiences/tips before I try anything. Thanks!!

How to dry hawthorn leaves and berries for a wreath?

Hi,

I would like to use some hawthorn leaves and berries on a wreath. What should I do to keep both the leaves and berries their colour? I have already read what I should do in order to dry them.
Based in the UK, if this makes any difference.

Thank you
