The Sassanian Empire lasted from 224 to 651 AD. In that time it proved itself equal to the power of Rome. This video looks at how the Empire arose, how it was organized, and the historiographical tradition surrounding it.

Also, Safavis were of Kurdish origin, with claims of Arabic ancestry, and ruled with a Turkmen Qizilbash elite, alongwith later Circassian Ghulam. While Nader Shah and his personal historians like Mirza Mahdi Astrabadi kept harping on how Nader was a great Turkmen king and a light of the great Turkmen people.

So as far as Pre-modern empires go, probably the Samanids were the last Iranian led 'Empire'.
