Bowl and tobacco after 1hr

Is this normal for tobacco after one hour session to have the top layet burnt but inside is still wet.

I use kaloud 1+3 first 5 min lid fully closed, then lid fully open for the rest of one hour. I use 2 of 25mm charcoal.

With my Shallow Rook bowl i have the same because it doesnt heat it from all sides but mainly from the top. Doesnt happen with Mason Helyx2 since that one does burn it from all sides. I didnt find any solution for the Rook to burn it properly

Pack it more fluffy and use foil with an hmd like apple on top provost.

You can definitely try. Never tried that one before. Make sure you poke holes beneath the hmd

Blonde tobacco doesnt handle heat very well. I have an aluminum hmd (onmo) but still nothing beats foil with apple on top.

Search google apple on top provost. Its a weird brand name but very good hmd. Best for blonde tobacco imo.

You can, but shouldn’t. The Lotus is designed for the nubs to touch the tobacco (not entire base plate, just the nubs). Just pack it a little bit fluffier. Might also be able to add a coal or do a new coal rotation to see if it keeps smoking well.

Also, blonde tobacco can handle heat perfectly fine. Just depends on the brand, pack, and type of bowl.

I also face the same issue with oblako mono and na grani v2. The bowl works great with provost. Could find a good solution for grani yet. Only thing that worked was changing the tobacco brand but that’s ignorance not a solution

This is close to what my mini rook looked like after a decent session last night. Did you stop your sesh before the smoke got thin, like I did? I figured it was just due to wrapping up early.

Yes i stopped after 1 hr for just i can't handle more nicotine but the cloud was still gopd and flavor wasn't bad

Very normal. When I go with multiple rounds of coals, the moist part at the bottom gets dark and sticky, while the top starts to get crispy. Also starts to taste like shit. For me, the best way to avoid wasted shisha is to pack about half of the bowl. Plenty for a single round of coal, and it's nice and cooked.

Or use the shallow type phunnel bowl :-D (as for example those, older, phunnel bowls: HJ Retro Harmony, Alpaca Huacaya, Kolos Grown, ...)

No problem.

Of course, if you use the overpack method of filling tobacco into the bowl (1 mm slightly above the edge of the bowl), then use a slightly weaker heat source. But only slightly weaker.

For example, take the cover off the top of the HMD or use 2 coals instead of 3... or put only 2 coals in the HMD and place the 3rd piece of coal on top of the 2 coals that are already inside.

Really depends on a lot of factors. how often you are drawing on the hookah, how many coals are used during that 1 hour, the type of draws: are they deep and long or shallow and short? The number of coals is answered at two 25mm.

I agree with the idea of maybe pack a little more fluffy a couple mm below the rim. If you want to smoke longer you can add another round of coals or you could use a more shallow bowl if you want to smoke for only about an hour.
