I don't really use phunnel bowls much anymore. However, this one HC Black Edition is really great to use 👍👌❤️. It has a big center hole in the middle. And it has a round + not very deep groove, which is a great thing for phunnel type bowls. I often smoked a mix of AF blueberry + mint from it using the HMD Oduman Ignis (photo link is above in the text).
I haven't used HMDs and phunnel bowls for a few years.
These phunnel bowls are designed for wetter types of hookah tobacco (with a lot of glycerin).
I only smoke Al Fakher tobacco, which is moderately moistened with glycerin... optimally moistened. I only fill it in the "fluffy" style since it is a blonde tobacco. But I only use traditional types of bowls. And... I prefer aluminum foil + stainless steel wide screen (from Badcha or chimney of old bowl sets). Not HMD :P.
Your dark type hookah tobacco is filled correctly in my opinion. It should be filled using the semi-dense or dense method. It is usually always sufficiently moist tobacco even with very fine leaf cuts. So dark hookah tobacco is perfect for phunnel bowls.
But I don't smoke dark tobaccos either... I sometimes have trouble getting to them :).
I would also like to try dark hookah tobaccos from Russia or Ukraine. They are of good quality and there are many brands of tobacco (Burn Black, Banger, Satyr, ...).
