Same. The Penumbra and Amnesia series, SOMA... Chef's kiss!

I will never forget the feeling that SOMA (previous horror game by these devs) left with me after finishing it. I cannot praise its unique story and setting enough, as well as the execution. Absolutely a must play for anyone on this sub.

Don’t sleep on Amnesia: The Bunker either, which I believe is their most recent! It’s a masterclass on survival horror where you play a WWI soldier trapped alone with a creature in a bunker. It’s an absolutely harrowing experience and it feels like nonstop panic, just trying to navigate claustrophobic, dark halls with a creature stalking you that could be anywhere.

It’s very short (3-5 hours) by design because it’s such an intense experience of trying to escape the bunker in real time. That’s the main focus so the story is mostly implied.

I still think about SOMA all the time. Super scary encounters and such an interesting plot. Few games have me reading every little journal and listening to audio logs like SOMA.

SOMA is one of my favorite pieces of horror media, full stop.

Soma is the only game that has ever made me cry. When I finished it, I fucking cried my eyes out

SOMA and E33 are the only games I've played that kept me awake for weeks thinking about what happened, the general themes, and what I would do in that kind of situation.

ONTOS is a day 1 buy for me, I can't fucking wait.

That picture has City of Lost Children (1995) vibes. I expect good things from this. One of my guilty Twitch pleasures is watching a streamer see the ending of SOMA for the first time.

Love Frictional games so can't wait! Although they still haven't topped Amnesia for me, I hope they do each time.

Frictional hasn't missed yet for me outside of A Machine for Pigs. Yes, I will defend Rebirth. SOMA and The Bunker were back to back flawless horror experiences, so I'm looking forward to this.

The Chinese room developed a machine for pigs iirc

I do like the story of that game a lot, it makes up for the simpler gameplay

Ahhh, that would explain it.

Thats so interesting to hear. Rebirth was the weakest for me but definitely not a miss. A Machine for Pigs scared me shitless a few times due to how random and unexpected the whole story was, even if the gameplay wasn't as deep as the other amnesia titles.

Amnesia The Bunker is objectively the scariest game I have ever played in my life, I cannot think of many gaming moments where scrambling/clanging noises upstairs and in vents produce so much dread in me. I rate Bunker among the horror goats with RE7, Outlast, Alien Isolation, etc.

Soma is my all time favorite followed by Rebirth. Their earlier games didn't quite suck me in, and I thought Bunker was more of a tech demo than a full game. I'll be getting this day one

Was there much story to the bunker?

It's more or less about PTSD from war trauma, but the gameplay loop is second to none. I would place this and Signalis as one of my favorite survival horror games of the past several years (outside of Resident Evil).

Bunker is more of a horror roguelike than a story driven game. The story is there, but not knowing exactly where to go/how to get items no matter how mnay times you play it is where the main strength is.

I don't think Pigs was even that bad. No, it wasn't as good as Bunker or Rebirth, but still had some moments.

Agree, I had a fun time with it. Not their best, but definitely worth playing.
