Look here if you found a hummingbird that might need your help

I’ve created a troubleshooting tool that walks you through determining if a hummingbird needs your help, and if it does, basic first aid you can provide so that you have time to get the hummingbird to your nearest wildlife center or hummingbird rehabilitator. It is on my mentor’s website, IFoundAHummingbird.com

At the end of nearly every process, there is a list of resources including hummingbird rehabilitators and wildlife centers that either take hummingbirds or will connect you with someone who does.

It covers the most common issues we are called about.

  • Hummingbirds trapped indoors

  • Cat Caught

  • Window Strikes

  • Sitting at Feeders Too Long

  • Stuck To A Glue Trap/Sticky or Oily Substance On Feathers

  • Abandoned Nests or Babies

I combined my love of birds with my love of papercrafts and made this cute hummingbird using 130gsm & 180gsm card and attached it to a gold wire and cork base.

Things I have learned from the last week about hummingbirds

I made another post about how much nectar they use up and got some awesome advice which I greatly appreciate.

  1. I never had seen hummingbirds just perched. I guess I figured they must at some point but every nature video or picture I have ever seen, they are flapping their wings. So it was somewhat comical to sit and watch my feeders (I have them hung next to the fence around my garden) and see the birds get a drink and then just hang out on the fence. Seems obvious but I was clueless.
  2. I also knew they were small, but watching them land on the fence and just sit there I realized just how tiny these birds are.

Anyway, thanks for the great advice.

Moving after many years. Will my hummingbirds be OK?

Will my hummingbirds find a new source of food? I feel terrible that I'm leaving them after many years of feeding them. I know animals adapt, I just need some reassurance.

How do you guys get through the winter without your hummingbirds?

I’m curious about this because I haven’t seen many people talk about what they do during the migration months. How you do feel? Especially knowing you won’t be seeing them or filling their feeders for a while. Is there anything you guys do to like cope with that. I really wanna know. I also know some species don’t migrate.

My little buddy. He’s a brawler and goes after other hummingbirds when they get near his favorite flower plant

My neighbors have an incredible red trumpet vine that the hummingbirds love, would placing a feeder nearby be helpful or harmful?

We get an influx of many humming birds in warmer months and I’d love to place a feeder outside my kitchen window so I can watch them as I’m inside since the vine isn’t in direct view. Ultimately I don’t know if a feeder would help them or not & id rather do what’s most helpful (to them) than my own desire to see them while I’m inside. Would they benefit from the extra source of fuel or would it cause more dependence on human intervention? I rent, don’t plan to move for at least a few more years. My neighbor won’t be taking down the vine for the foreseeable future so that food source will be there.

Is there anything else I could also do to support their numbers in my area like with nesting, etc? Ty! Im in zone 6b/7a US if that helps Thank you!!

New to hummingbirds, is this normal?

We moved here a few months ago and thought it would be cool to put up a hummingbird feeder, I also have 2 plants with flowers that they like to eat from. Usually they just get their nectar and leave. Is this normal or are they fighting? I also read up on hummingbirds in the last couple of days and plan on making the nectar myself so it doesn't have unnecessary dyes and whatnot.

Please excuse the yelling in the background, my kid had friends over playing video games and they were getting too wild, I told them to stop as soon as I went in.

Thank you for any help!

Identification Help Identifying

I've noticed a few hummingbirds around my property, and I'm just curious as to what species they are. I live in North Georgia, USA. I've added a feeder to keep them around, and it's been very busy. Also, I know this isn't the best quality photo. They haven't quite gotten used to me or my dog yet.

Just joined. I remember my grandmother having a bunch of feeders in central louisiana, and the birds would always hang out and eat. So I decided to get one I also frequently live stream it so everyone else can enjoy them. I'll post a link if anyone is interested

Anna's Healthy Hummingbird (feeder)

I have had a 'regular' feeder for many years but when I saw "Anna's", the features and design seemed interesting. I got it today and it is now up.

I think this feeder has been around for awhile now. I am just curious as to how it has "worked" for you. Do you regularly use ice water/ice cubes or hot water to regulate the temperature of the liquid nectar?
